Brent Barry...just kidding :princess.
Malik Rose is now officially the King of New York City...observe the comments from the fine folks at RealGM (http://www.realgm.com/boards/viewforum.php?f=24):
From "this is not the same team": (http://www.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=356068&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=12)
that person who gave us that heart is malik....[those are not my elipisisesesisiseses - whottt]
its obvious that the heart of the knicks is the bench. the defense that Rose,JYD and Ariza has lifted this team up. where are the isiah haters now saying how bad the trade for rose and taylor was?? rose is the most one of the most underated players in the league not really based on talent but on the determination and heart he brings to a team.[no shit, but not so obvious to many - whottt]
4.) Rose brought a commitment to hustle and defense, and an INTELLIGENCE to this team that was sorely lacking. This was the #1 missing ingredient. Plus, he's a great player and gets a lot of minutes.
Having Rose is basically like having another coach. A good one.
Malik defintely brings the extra we needed
Yeah malik was deff the piece we were missing i mean we have jyd ( a energetic, hustling vet) Ariza ( a young talented long armed defender with a knack for getting in the passing lanes). Just no directions for these guys to follow all the tools of a great d just was not sure how to do it. Now with the arrival of malik we finaly have that direction and leadership.
as far as malik, i love this guy! we basically have 2 coaches. he just refuses to lose. this guy is really starting to wear off on the other players. this is the type of player every good team has to have. :depressed
But ultimately Rose's contribution to THIS team is making him more than worth his contract and it is becoming infectious. He probably came into the organization wearing his 2 rings and telling them cats that I got these from playing defense and playing hard EVERY night regardless if I may have a bad night...keep playing hard.[nah we don't miss Malik - whottt]
From "Kurt, don't even bother coming back" (http://www.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=356075) :wow
yea i agree kurt thomas slows the whole offence down m he needs to be gone , and thomas isnt out best defender , i would say rose is , i love malik[evidently he does, seeing as how Thomas has been there for 8 seasons or so and is arguably the heart and sould of that team - whottt
And there's a lot more of that type sentiment over there, not to mention coming from the Knicks players themselves and Isiah and Herb Williams...this after a month...and those comments sound a lot like what Spursfans used to say about Malik...and what Greg Popovich said after mondays game.
The simple truth of the matter is...I like Mohammed and I think he does have something to offer this team, and he seems to be a very good human being...but this was a stupid trade to make at this point in our season if your goal is to win a title.
And Malik has had a hell of a lot tougher job than Mohammed...he's had to win with shit, on a bad team that had lost all hope this season, that had chemistry problems, that had a losing culture, a rookie coach, that has 200 million sitting on their IR, and that had given up... and they are 9-4 since that trade....Mohammed came to the best team in the NBA...and we are playing worse than the Knicks...it's not all his fault...but Malik is a fucking solution to a problem...not a neutral substance.
The Spurs deserve to be called out for making this trade in the middle of the best season in Spurs history...it doesn't do any good now...but we just should realize that this trade has title ramifications...you might want to lower your hopes just a bit. And yes I am the idiot that predicted 65+ wins saying this...

It's pointless, you'll never get the people in here to admit their long standing hate of Malik wasn't warranted. I've come the conclusion that there are a few of us here who actually understood what he brought to the table, and are thankful for that.
To the rest, Malik will never be more than a 6'5" TO machine who rode coattails.
And it doesn't matter anyway because the trade is already done, even if a Malik hater did admit that Malik meant everything to this team he'd still be a Knick.
Agreed.
But remember people, height = great player.

You know what the funniest thing is?
Malik really hasn't had one of his good games yet...these are his typical TO low PCT shooting type games...
They haven't seen his A game yet...
Doesn't it make you guys a little bit nervous that they said there no way Malik has worse hands and is more foul prone than Nazr...and Malik is having bad hands and high foul games right now...and these guys haven't said anything about it yet....it's not even registering on their radar...
And these are the diehard semi bitter and cynical fans, hardened cynical New Yorkers, that are still with that team when it has only 27 wins by March...
Well I think that's the difference, we win and bitch about every little thing, when you loose you gotta try and be positive about every little thing, just to have faith and be able to keep your head up....
Malik still isn't putting up the kind of numbers Nazr did in New York (and Nazr still isn't doing that here either) but I don't think it was a bad trade for New York, they need that kind of hustle to inspire the other players, it's something the Spurs could use right now, when a guy hustles you can't just sit there and watch, you have to do the same if you are worth a shit. And I don't know the specifics but it wouldn't surprise me to find out if he has more rings than everyone else on the team combined...

Believe me...there was plenty of whining and bitching on that forum not too long ago...and still is from some of the fans...they didn't like this trade(becase of the contract)...but they were never that upset to see Nazr go...and they never said about him the things they say about Malik.

He does have more rings than anyone else...twice as many. And everyone looks up to him for it and he is a respected voice there...which is why you can't judge his contributions by stats alone(you couldn't judge them here that way either)...
I'm not unhappy for Malik and I haven't been...in a way he always wanted to be the man...that was part his problem here...I'm unhappy for us...I just hope we can keep up with freaking Knicks in the W-L dept.
And don't be too surprised if they make they playoffs...and you know...Marbury is a real bitch in a playoff series...even with Duncan and Robinson in the paint...and while it is a long shot for an 8 seed to do anything substantial in the playoffs...it's not something unheard of in New York City. Anything can happen...and I am getting a kick out of following the Knicks right now.

I liked Malik the person as much as the next Spursfan, but you know what. We really need to get over this...he's not a Spur anymore and he's not coming back. Why keep rehashing what he's doing and wondering what he would've been doing as a Spur when the situation isn't possible anymore. Just looking for something to blame a loss on? Looking for an excuse if we don't win a championship? It's pointless.

I like Malik too but you guys have just got to get over it. Trades happen, it's a business.

it remains to be seen, but i felt when we lost malik we lessened our chances of a title. bringining a new guy into the system this late in the season is tough. hopefully we can adjust this season.. if not, then we will win championships next season... i want one this season though...

I loved Malik and teach at his old school but wait until Nazr throws down several 20 and 10 games and the tone of this discussion will change.
Nazr averaged 12 and 8 himself before injuries in NY. We are not talking getting back a chump here. Relax except for a bad game last night, and Rose playing more minutes vs. Spurs trade looks pretty even.

The problem is we need something out of Nazr now that he was not traded for....we supposedly got him for defense and rebounding...without TD we need some offense out of the 4-5's...not going to be him. He has one of the worst looking jumpshots I have seen in awhile and his hands aren't much better.

Look at Nazr's ppm and rebounding since getting here before jumping to conclusions about the trade. He caught Spuritis last two games, get over the hate.
whottt
03-24-2005, 11:36 AM
Nazr's numbers put up on a lottery team are pretty much meaningless...there are 15 million players in the NBA that put meaningless numbers on bad teams...
Since no opposing team is going to have a rebound rate of 100% someone is going to get the rebounds on every team...someone is going to take the shots on every team.
And simply put...there is more to the game than statistics.
Tony Massenburg could be a 20 and 10 guy if the team was bad enough...
And the opposite is also true...just because a player isn't putting up great numbers doesn't mean he's not helping his team...
Nazr can throw down as many 20-10 games as he wants but until he does it in a meaningful situation, and does something else, like have a meaningful impact in a game, as opposed to being a foul prone dumbass, this wisdom of this trade will remain in question.
And not all of us want to give the Spurs a free pass all the time...we have an emotional and time investment with this team...and they want that from us because they make money off of it...they need to be held accountable for stupid midseason manuevers. A grassroots bitchmovement started on a message board may curb their desire to cut payroll in the middle of title run, in the future...something that will greatly improve the quality of your sports enjoyment...as well as mine.

He has been foul prone, but then again, so was Rose. Rose made many inane fouls and TO over the last few years, and both seemingly get called for fouls other's don't.
I miss Rose as well, but just don't think we can jump to conclusions yet.

Malik foul proneness looks like Moses Malone next to Nazr's.

Soul & Inspiration - Performed by Whottt
Malik I can't let you do this
Let you get traded away
Malik how can I live through this
When you are all I wake up for each day, baby
You're my soul and my life's inspiration
You're all I've got to get me by
You're my soul and my life's inspiration
Without you baby, what good am I
I never had much goin'
But at least I have you
How can you walk out knowing
I ain't got nothing left to keep you, baby
You're my soul and my life's inspiration
You're all I've got to get me by
You're my soul and my life's inspiration
Without you Malik, what good am I
Oh, what good am I
Malik, I can't make it without you
And I'm telling you, Honey
You're my reason for watching, for shouting
For posting, for dying
Malik, baby, I can't make it without you, baby
Please, I'm begging you, baby, baby
If you go, it will kill me, I swear
If I can't live without you
You're my soul and my life's inspiration
You're all I've got to get me by
You're my soul and my life's inspiration
Without you baby, what good am I
What good am I

The Spurs weren't going to win the title because of Malik Rose and they won't lose the title because they don't have Malik Rose.
