To be a king you have to rule a kingdom (or an NBA championship) and right now all he rules over is his own team. Now if they play the lakers in the finals then I will be saying something else...ALL HAIL KING JAMES!

So does Duncan still make 1st team all-NBA?

Gasol got no votes at all for MVP. Dirk got one more vote than Duncan.

I can't see who could prevent him from ruling the NBA kingdom this year.

Thanx.

Someone on another thread noted that Duncan got MVP votes 12 staright years. Is that a record?

If its not, it must be pretty damn close.

yeah, Denver had to be here, so Billups get some votes. that's the same reason why he could be in 2nb all nba team and parker on third, even he i think TP has a better year. same for dirk or roy.
they are better than billups IMO. but denver had a great year and is having great PO.

TP 8th ? i can't believe it

I'm pretty sure Manu finished 8th last year and TD 1 spot behind him.

Now I am not saying this to bag on TP, but I am saying this because I think people forgot how good Manu was last season before he got injured.

Anyway TP has taken it up another level this season, possibly superstar status. AWESOME stuff TP.

I think Tony did himself in with the "Can't get up for the OKC's of the NBA" line. Must've rubbed some voters the wrong way. :lol Billups has helped transform Denver with his leadership on both ends of the floor and proved his value to Detroit upon his exit.

Regardless, Tony is was the Spurs' MVP for a good chunk of the season and all of the playoffs.

It's still BS. The injury depleted Spurs only finished 1 game behind the Nuggets didn't they? TP was one of the main reasons for that.

How many injuries did Denver have this season?

The free throw stat I read a few weeks ago and was amazed that someone like TP who penetrates a lot of the time got less free throws than Billups who is more of a jump shooter.

Looks like I was wrong about Manu finishing ahead of TD last season. I thought I read here that Manu finished ahead, maybe I did and whoever wrote the list last season had the wrong order?

How come the "seeding" argument works in support of Tony but not in defense of Pop? :lol Not saying you specifically are the one implying this but it is something I've noticed in general, lol.

I guess it comes down to the way you perceive each player's role and their value: You have one player (Tony) who carried a team for much of the year (especially offensively) and another (Chauncey) who influenced the overall level of his team's game and changed the identity of another with his departure (for the bad); different types of impact to measure.

As far as FTs: More people going for headfakes on jumpshots maybe? That and Tony getting to the basket before defenders having the chance to foul him, maybe? Not sure.

Close games too.Billups is a great FT shooter so he has the ball at the end of the games. In the Spurs the ball usually goes to Mason or Finley.

2 or more FTs per game easily

One interesting fact I found about the MVP winners is the oldest to win the MVP was MJ and Malone at age 35. I guess once you pass 35 it marks the end of a player playing at an mvp level.

Everyone knows who the man on the Spurs is. Anyone who knows basketball, anyway. Duncan can put up similar offensive numbers to Parker, but the real difference is in the defense. Duncan is an anchor, whereas Parker is a liability.

uh oh... C'mon, Parker's defense is not always great but it's not a liability.

romain.star
05-07-2009, 04:05 AM
Really? In the playoffs, when it mattered most, he couldn't guard a D-League player who is 5'8". I won't even mention players like Luke Ridnour that he couldn't guard in the regular season.

Barrea spoke to Parker's defense, or lack thereof in an interview during the series. He said something to the effect of "The coaching staff tells me Parker is not good at guarding the pick and roll, so I try to exploit it as much as I can." I respect that he didn't just say "The guy is getting his points, but he can't guard me on the other end, either.".

overall, Parker CAN be a very good defender.
I don't know why he doesn't play good defense on a regular basis but he can do it.
He proved it in the past and will prove it again.

That being said, don't expect me to tell you he is a great defender cause he's not.
