The Oklahoma City Thunder will play the San Antonio Spurs in a preseason game next season in Austin, Texas.

The Oct. 20 game will be played at the Erwin Center. It will serve as a homecoming for Thunder star Kevin Durant, who played one season for Texas before entering the NBA. The Oklahoma City franchise selected Durant with the second overall pick in the 2007 draft.

The Longhorns retired Durant's No. 35 jersey in February during a halftime ceremony of a game against Texas A&M.

Oklahoma City season-ticket holders can buy tickets to the game through a special pre-sale taking place from May 11-15. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on June 1.

The remainder of the Thunder's preseason schedule has not yet been released.

Spurs, Silver Stars to play in Austin (http://www.bizjournals.com/sanantonio/stories/2009/05/04/daily23.html)
San Antonio Business Journal
by W. Scott Bailey

The San Antonio Spurs, defeated in the first round of the 2009 NBA playoffs by Dallas, are already making preparations for the 2009-2010 pre-season.

Spurs officials say the Black and Silver will play a pre-season road game in Austin against the Oklahoma Thunder.

The game will be played at the Frank Erwin Center, home of the Texas Longhorns, on Tuesday, Oct. 20. And Spurs fans will have a five-day, pre-sale access to tickets beginning May 18. Spurs fans can visit TexasBoxOffice.com for more information.

Tickets will go on sale to the general public on June 1.

The Thunder relocated to Oklahoma from Seattle last season.

The Spurs’ parent company, Spurs Sports & Entertainment (http://www.bizjournals.com/gen/company.html?gcode=40993322345740CB8D5118341C54646 D&market=sanantonio), owns an NBA Developmental League franchise in Austin. The Toros play their home games at the Austin Convention Center.

The WNBA San Antonio Silver Stars, also owned by SS&E, will play the Indiana Fever in a pre-season game scheduled for June 2 at Frank Erwin Center.

McDonald chimes in.

Spurs will bring Durant back to Austin (http://blogs.mysanantonio.com/weblogs/courtside/2009/05/spurs-will-brin.html)
By Jeff McDonald

Thanks to the Spurs, Kevin Durant is headed back to his old stomping grounds.

The Spurs have scheduled a preseason game against Durant's Oklahoma City Thunder on Oct. 20 at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin. That's the same arena where Durant's retired No. 35 hangs in the rafters.

Durant won national player of the year honors during his one collegiate season at Texas, 2006-07.

Spurs fans will be able to purchase tickets during a special presale event that runs May 18-22.

No lie. Initially, I was excited and then I started counting the months. Amazing how this scrap of Spurs news helps my Spurs addiction during the off-season...

How can you stand driving in that city? I feel like pulling my hair out everytime I pass through there.

There's plenty of other cool things to like about Austin. Like good-paying jobs.

How can you stand driving in that city? I feel like pulling my hair out everytime I pass through there.Easy -- just live near your work. I agree driving across town every day at normal rush times would suck.

If your mental well-being is worth the cost, just take the toll road and bypass the city next time.

North SA is looking as gridlocked as Austin last I came through.

Not worth the standstill on IH-35 24 hrs a day 7 days a week. I'll stay in SA.

I wouldn't mind going to see that game though.

Having a lively downtown where the locals live, work, and play IS a bummer, true. Feel free to stay in SA, we have enough people moving here as it is.

Downtown does stink -- but it's obviously the tourists.

Ice Bats?

They're over. We're getting an AHL team to take advantage of the burning rivalry between our fair cities.

Damn someone is taking it personal...jesus. Settle down.:lol I love that "our shit doesn't stink" attitude some of you Austinites have. It's comical.:lol

Dude, I lived in SA for 15+ happy years and still frequently visit family there. Austin ain't perfect but it's more my style than SA. You're the one who started slamming Austin because you're not bright enough to avoid downtown traffic on I-35, which does suck and should be avoided at all costs. Those of us who live here understand that and plan accordingly. If I had to live south and work north (which I did in the early 80s) then I would agree with you.
