Will Roger Clemens win his 7th Cy Young before Barry Bonds wins his 7th MVP?

The unbelievable part of Roger's accomplishment this year is he will win the MVP after he "retired" and on his 4th different team in 2 different leagues. I think he is a lock to win it this year with his 18-4 record and 3.0 ERA. Barry has some competition this year with Beltre in LA, and Puhols and Edmonds in St Louis, but they might take each other's votes in St Louis .

To those of you who voted no, I want to bet you $10,000 on that right now. Roger is the biggest lock in history.

Jason Schmidt will win the Cy Young award. He has less hits allowed and more strikeouts. The deciding factor will be that the Giants will be in the postseason and the Astros will not. Schmidt is a lock as is Barry.

Here are Beltre's stats, he will give Barry a run for it. He has more runs, hits and RBIs, plus they will win the division in LA. A. Beltre, LA 552 96 187 30 0 45 111 4 2 46 .339 .389 .638 1.027

tlong, name the bet...no way in hell does Schmitt win the Cy Young. His ERA is .25 higher, he has more losses and less wins....you are drunk, aren't you?

Depends on which award is announced first this year.

The MVP is announced last.

I guarantee you that if the Giants are in the playoffs then Bonds and Schmidt will win MVP and Cy. I will bet wine on it!

BTW, tlong, the Giants are NOT going to postseason...no freaking way...so the bet is, I take Roger you get Schmitt...that is the bet, take it or leave it. The Cubs or Astros will get wild card...the Giants can not possibly get it with their remaining schedule, no way no how. The Cubs are playing the Little Sisters of the Poor so they will more than likey get it.

Jim,

The bet is I take Schmidt and Bonds, you take Clemens and Beltre.

No, because I think Bonds will win it because of the Cardinal players taking Midwest votes from each other.

The bet is, I get The Rocket, you get Schmitt...deal?

Jim, the quote above is from you! Clearly you believe that Bonds will not win the MVP this year or you would not have written that!

I don't know if Bonds will win it, but if he doesn't, it's only because the voters decided to spread it around a bit. There is simply no good argument against him this year.

OPS
Bonds: 1.437
Edmonds: 1.109
Helton: 1.075
Pujols: 1.070
Beltre: 1.027

With Bonds, the Giants are the 3rd best offensive team in the NL (based on OPS). If you remove his numbers from the mix, they drop to 12th. Right there with the NY Mets.

Here's a breakdown:

Team BA
With Bonds = .269 (6th)
Without Bonds = .261 (T11th)

Team OBP
With Bonds = .356 (1st)
Without Bonds = .325 (12th)

Team Slg
With Bonds = .436 (5th)
Without Bonds = .408 (T12th)

Team OPS
With Bonds = .793 (3rd)
Without Bonds = .733 (12th)

I'll do these breakdowns for the other candidates if there's really any debate as to who the MVP is. But right now, it seems like common sense to me. The Giants would be battling Arizona for last place if not for Bonds.

TLong,

If you take Jason over Roger, prepare to lose. Clemens has it all locked up.

If Jim hadn't flaked on the original terms, you might have had a shot though. Bonds is going to win the MVP.

tlong, the question is, will he win it first??? I did not say that Barry would not win it....where did I say that??? The fact is, the Cy Young is announced first, so it follows that Clemens will win it first....you are the one that boldly stated that Jason would win it and it was a lock....
Schmidt is a lock as is Barry. you are full of crap...you just wanted me to sucker into the bet against Barry...and that is foolhardy
