Not surprising. I think it's horse-shit to give Bryant a flagrant for that elbow. The Fisher suspension I don't agree with, but the precedent is there with all the other stupid suspensions the league gives for things like that. Kicking him out of game 2 was enough IMO.

You think Kobe should have been let go with nothing? Also, since the booted Ron in game 2 which was unfair, kicking Fish out was not enough.

NEW YORK, May 7, 2009 - Rafer Alston of the Orlando Magic and Derek
Fisher of the Los Angeles Lakers have each been suspended one game
without pay for their roles in separate incidents last night, NBA
Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations Stu Jackson announced
today.

Alston has been suspended for swinging and making contact with the head
of Eddie House of the Boston Celtics with 48.6 seconds remaining in the
third period of the Magic's 112-94 loss to the Celtics in Game 2 of the
Eastern Conference Semifinals last night at TD Banknorth Garden.

Fisher has been suspended for striking Houston's Luis Scola with his
shoulder and head with 13.2 seconds remaining in the third period of the
Lakers' 111-98 win last night over the visiting Houston Rockets in Game
2 of the Western Conference Semifinals at STAPLES Center.
Fisher
received a Flagrant Foul Penalty Two and was ejected from the game at
the time of the play.

Jackson also announced that the Lakers' Kobe Bryant has been assessed a
Flagrant Foul Penalty One for elbowing Houston's Ron Artest in the chest
area with 6:57 remaining in the fourth period of last night's game.

Alston will serve his suspension on Friday when the Magic hosts the
Celtics at Amway Arena. Fisher also will serve his suspension on Friday
when the Lakers visit the Rockets at Toyota Center.

I'm glad Fish got suspended, now we can put PG's out there for 48 mins who can actually guard Houston's PGs. Kobe didn't deserve to be suspended but how did he get upgraded to a flagrant yet Rondo can slap guys in the face then through them down by the neck and chuck guys into scorers tables and not get upgraded to a flagrant, I don't understand.

Artest was stupid. He had to know the whistle would be extremely fast after Fisher just got ejected for leveling Scola. Anyone could see that ejection coming a mile away when Artest started walking at Bryant, and there's no one to blame but Artest for that ejection. The refs should have called a loose-ball foul on Bryant; that's all it was.

But Fisher is a shooter that can shoot lights out at the 3 and has a decent jumper. I dont know the Lakers and never heard of Brown, what does he bring to the table? It wasn't like Brooks was off the hook in game 2 anyways so having Fish would be a plus.

Shannon Brown is the new Magic Johnson... just like Bynum is the new Kareem... :jack

Fish had a decent last game but has been struggling tremendously with his shot for the past month or so and more often then not looks ooooold out there on D. Every once in a while he'll muster up a decent defensive game like last night but not that often. Brown on the other had in big, strong, athletic as hell and is something like 8/12 from three in the playoffs so he's a nice upgrade.

Except Fisher is 5/20 from 3pt land and Brown is something like 11/16.

Bottom line is D-Fish has been slumping for some time now.

Brown brings some of the best PG defense in the league to the team. He can board, block shots, and run the break better than Fisher. I'm fully confident that he will do a better job than Fish when he's out there with the starting unit.

Elbow to the chest does not get you a suspension. Elbow to the throat does.

Since Kobe elbowed him to the chest, he won't get a suspension.

The difference between Rondo and Alston is that you could at least argue that Rondo was playing during the foul (and yes, I'm one of the people who think he should've got suspended for the Hinrich whip, not for the hard foul on Miller though.)

Alston's slap was far away from the action, and obviously premeditated.

you are underestimating the value of Fisher. He brings championship experience, experiences playing with kobe for years, he can knock down 95% of his FTs, and he has been a sharp shooter under any kind of pressure. Let me make my prediction here. when the game is close, we are 100% we are going to double-team Kobe off Brown, but we are not going to leave Fisher open.
theres a reason why the Jizzholez went to the WCF when Fish was there. i respect his game :toast(minus the cheap shot of course :sleep)

Of course Fish brings a lot of intangibles, but the Lakers aren't going to lose a game because he's not on the floor. His performance has dropped off quite a bit this year and his liabilities on defense hurt the team.

Give me 48 minutes of solid PG defense any day of the week. Front Yao, keep Brooks in check, force Ron Ron to be the man. That seems like a good strategy to me. Let's hope reality catches up with Ron and he stops making step back 3's with 1 second on the shot clock :toast

Fish has been shooting like crap the last 10 games... and Brown is like 8 for 12 from the 3 in the playoffs. Will be nice to see. The only real loss would be experience.

Its justified like this. Dwight swung his elbow to the head in a retalitory move with intent to injure. Kobe was boxing out with Rons forearm and elbow in the back of his head and neck and threw an elbow to to the CHEST to clear space. No intent to injure anymore than Rons forearm in the back of Kobe's neck was. As for the elbow to the neck of artest BS .... what are you going to believe... the film or Artest? :bang The only reason its even being talked about is because Ron Ron went nutso after.

Who's on here all day long? I've been working all day long. And like I said...I'll repeat myself, since you don't seem to be paying much attention. The NBA is all about the Lakers...when the Lakers play, it's all over everything. If you love the game of basketball, you watch it..period. What else was there to watch from 9:30 to midnight CST last night? Not much. And if you bothered to read posts before you talk shit to me, you would have seen that before last night, I was actually rooting for the Lakers in this series. I wanted them to beat the Rockets. But after the cheap shot by Fisher and the continous elbows Kobe is giving Artest (and no..the one in the chest isn't the first one), I've changed my mind.

DUNCANownsKOBE2

Comparing Kobe's elbow to Dwight's is laughable. I really hate having to argue on the same side as LA fans, but sometimes these comparisons are just so wrong. D-Ho clearly made an intentional effort to elbow Sam-Dam in a play completely irrelevant to the game. Kobe elbowed Ron while trying to box out someone who outweighed him by 40 pounds on a play that actually had something to do with the game.
