I don't see him as a Spur. He's is extremely raw, has a low basketball IQ, and doesn't have a good offensive skillset. He's extremely athletic though, and could be developed, but I don't see Pop having much patience with him.

This guy has potential. I really want to see him at the spurs. He is great and can develop even more. Very athletic and a great rebounder.

He played mostly at PF in college, but I like his potential at SF. He is super athletic, he plays good defense, and he is a very good rebounder. His jumpshot has also improved while at Texas. I would not mind him at all on the Spurs. If he's there when the Spurs pick, I hope they draft him.

There are far better prospects at 37, but if he is still there with one of our picks in the 50's I wouldn't be completely against it.

He is James Posey without the 3 point shot.

He is James Posey without the 3 point shot.

Damion James is a more powerful player than Posey. I do agree, however, about the 3 point shot.

We need this kind of player + the spurs is a good team where he can improve defence and shooting.

I would like to pick him up

hes never going to be a three, he cant handle the ball worth shit, makes horrible passes, cant get his own shot

he is a tenacious offensive rebounder and powerful finisher, shoots a nice midrange jumper and pullup, a lot of potential

James recovering from ankle injury

By Mark Rosner
Thursday, May 28, 2009, 05:54 PM

Longhorn junior forward Damion James is at the NBA predraft combine in Chicago after having to miss a couple of workouts for teams because he tweaked an ankle during a workout for the San Antonio Spurs.

James has until June 15 to decide whether he will leave his name in the draft or return for his senior season at Texas.

In another Longhorn development, Texas and Kentucky are still discussing facing each other on neutral courts, starting in Houston during the 2010-11 season. The next game would be in Louisville.

Just our luck, huh? He just happens to get injured at a workout for the SPURS. well, hopefully it's nothing serious. I'd still like to see him picked up if he's there at 37, unless he goes back to school.

I would hit myself over the head with a tack hammer if we drafted Damion James.

James' only shot in the NBA is as a small ball 4 for a team like Golden State, and even then he'd be a project. He would struggle mightily at both ends for a team like the Spurs. He'd be very foolish to stay in the draft.

I think this improves his odds with us, in the grand Mahinmi tradition...

james reminds me of Bonzi Wells...and that is what kind of scares me about him.

he can blow up at a moments notice and light up the scoreboard.....but then he can go completely cold, become a black hole, and shoot his team out of any chance of winning a game. Plus, he is not the greatest FT shooter, isn't a good passer, and doesn't handle the rock all that well for a SF.

I love his size, hustle, rebounding, shooting range, and tenacity.

If he can improve his shot selection and efficiency, ball handling, passing, and get rid of that stigma of disappearing for an entire half, he will be a complete steal.

Probably a good idea. He needs to work on his game some if he wants to be more than just a hustle role player at the next level. If his 3pt shooting can get back to where it was year before last and he can work on his ball handling, he could wind up borderline lottery/mid-first round pick.

Damn :( Well, maybe there is a good side in it too. He can improve on college level and the Longhorns will be kicking ass next season!!

I heard damion james korean stepdad has formulated a new steroid for the 21st century--undetectable by modern standards. He plans to experiment with them on damion; hopefully he can provide the scoring punch we need from him next season on the UT squad.
