After week one last season

Washington 1-0
Dallas 0-1

How did that work out for you last year? 8)

Washington wasn't that impressive. Dallas hung in their the best they could. Dallas will be there at the end of the season.

Pooh, Washington was not that impressive????? They had 5 times the rushing yards that Tampa had, they did not allow a offensive TD by Tampa. They would have been up 14-0, except that they were screwed out of a sure 7 pts when the refs screwed up the spot on the 1 yd line and put it on the 2 yd line, when replay clearly showed that Brunell had the first down inside the 1. They had 170 yds rushing against one of the best defenses against the run in the league. As always, you do not know jack shit.:rolleyes

As long as your coach has a red flag in his pocket, it's not the refs fault.

I thought dallas was suppose to have great d?
I said since they are enforcing the rules now
you throw out the stats from last year and start over
dallas d BLOWS
their corners SUCK

washington is better this year then last
however I think they are not there yet

I thought they were solid against tamba bay who is known for their good d

they got to tampa bay's quarterback and sacked him

It's not so much that their corners suck. It's that the front 4 on the d-line put NO pressure whatsoever on Culpepper. Hell, they didn't even knock him down. When you give a QB all day to throw, even Deion Sanders in his prime couldn't stop Culpepper from completing passes. It doesn't matter who you have back there. Dallas hosts Cleveland next week, and I bet Dallas' D doesn't get burned quite as bad, however I do think their D was overrated last year. The offense however looked solid. They just need to work on cutting out penalties. The WRs for Dallas look awesome. They'll score a lot of points this year. That's for sure.

Jimcs50

I do not think so. 5th in the NFC and 5th in the league the yr before when only alowing 91 and 108 yds/ game is better than 80% of the league the past two yrs and Washington hit them for 170 yds. That was my point. How was Dallas' running game yesterday, btw?

i didn't watch this game....didn't dallas bring the heat (with blitzers ands such)? or was that ineffective?

Dallas registered 2 sacks, Minn had 0 sacks, so I would say that the statement that Culpepper received no pressure was false.

Dallas registered 2 sacks, Minn had 0 sacks, so I would say that the statement that Culpepper received no pressure was false.

Both sacks were from defensive backs coming up to tackle Cullpepper after scrambling. One sack was credited to Peter Hunter and the other was credited to Tony Dixon and neither sack was for a loss of yardage. That's hardly creating pressure.

The Dallas front four didn't provide any pressure on Cullpepper. As for blitzing, we didn't do it often in that game b/c we were doubling and tripling teaming Randy Moss. When we did blitz, Minnesota made us pay dearly. On three of the four occassions I remember us blitzing, Minnesota burned us bigtime for gambling. The first time we didn't get burned big time but we gave up a third and long situation. The second time was on a 63 yard touchdown pass to O. Smith. The third time was on a 42 yard pass interference penalty by Tony Dixon on Randy Moss. The fourth time was on a 43 yard touchdown pass to K. Campell.

But the most frustrating thing wasn't Cullpepper's scrambling in the pocket for more time. And believe me, the scrambling was very frustrating and hurt us on numerous occasions. But it was Cullpepper running for three of the five third down conversions they successfully completed after finding nothing downfield. That was a killer.

But if you had watched that game, which I know you didn't, there is no way you could say what you said and expect it to be reality.

I am in....any takers?

Washington had 7 TOs and still only lost by 6 ON THE ROAD.They lost their starting QB in 2nd quarter when the game was tied. They had 1st and goal on the 2 yd line, got a illegal motion penalty on 1st down, then had to throw the ball on 1st down and had it picked. They had a fumble returned for a TD, they had 3 TOs inside the Giant 35 yd line....they still only lost by 6pts on the road.....they now have only given up one TD in two weeks on defense, and have given up only 96 yds rushing total in 2 games. This team is light years ahead of past teams.

I do not think Dallas can count on another plethora of miscues by Washington on Monday, so I am still confident that Washington can win on MNF in front a a wild and pumped up crowd.

bigzak25
09-20-2004, 01:02 PM
i was very dissappointed with ramsey...he's throwing it into double coverage like he's quincy carter....really bad....not taking what the gmen were giving him....i know brunell hurt his hamstring or something....you think he'll start or it will be ramsey?

and we need to get portis some stick'em for sure....rod gardner as well....his nick ain't 50/50 for nothing.....

Jimcs50
09-20-2004, 01:10 PM
Zak, I think Brunell will play, but Ramsey still has happy feet because of last year's hammering, that will improve. There is another difference between this season's Redskins and last, and it's trust. They trust that Gibbs is a proven NFL winner. You take a year ago, with seven turnovers they probably give up, they will not give up this year, the will to win is there.
That's something to build on. But the Redskins need solid, substantive improvements too. And they need sensible expectations, that are not a matter of Gibb's aura. Last week the Redskins looked promising, this week they look doomed. Which team are they? Both. This is who they are, realistically, both the good and the bad. Baby steps, Zak, baby steps. As far as Portis' fumbling, that was an anaomaly, before thoses fumbles, he had 268 consecutive carries w/o a fumble.

bigzak25
09-20-2004, 01:36 PM
well shit, i realize you don't go from spurrier to superbowl contender overnight, but i expect ram to make better decisions, he's getting the protection, and it is his 3rd year....

i am very pleased with our Defense. they will keep us in every game, and win a few for us as well......i hope giving the opposing team an instant touchdown via fumble return is not an every game occurrence though....twice in two games? all i can say is ,CRAP!

SAmikeyp
09-20-2004, 01:39 PM
on the same tip Jim, I do not think that Washington should count on 4 TO's from Dallas. Portis went 268 carries without a fumble, Testaverde went almost 200 throws without an INT. Both players started pressing when it happened, which led to more problems. Personally I think Washington has a better chance w/Brunell than Ramsay. I picked the two teams to split (with each at home) and with Brunell in there I stick to that. He has the veteran smarts to get through rough spots. Unlike you, I have the mental ability to be objective.

Jimcs50
09-20-2004, 01:40 PM
Zak, that fumble for a TD and that pick in the endzone on first and goal, was a 14 pt swing, that is huge when we lose by 6.

It's cool to pull for your team Jim, but not cool to diss the Cowboys while doing so. Are the Cowboys the standard by which you measure your team? Both teams are much improved and it will probably be a dog fight both times. Of course I want the Cowboys to win but I will not stand here and tell you that its gonna happen. You would be wise to do the same thing. :wink

Since the Skins have beat us once in 7 years, I would think the answer for a Skins fan would be yes, Hook Dem.

:rollin

It only took Ramsey a half to toss 3 picks, think how many he'll throw in a whole game... the only thing he has going for him is that he isn't Tim Hasselbeck... is maybe that is a bad thing... after all, Hasselbeck only tossed up 4 picks against us last year...
