Game 3 Drew 5.95 Million Viewers, Most On Sports Network In 2009

It wasn't a particularly compelling contest on the court, but Game 3 of the second-round playoff series between the Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets was hot with viewers.
The May 8 telecast dunked a 4.5 rating average, 4.43 million households and 5.95 million viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research data. The game, won by the Lakers 108-94, was the most- viewed NBA conference semifinal game ever on ESPN, according to network officials.
The game was the highest-rated conference semifinal telecast since 2006, when the San Antonio Spurs-Dallas Mavericks Game 6 match drew a 4.7 rating. The Lakers-Rockets game last Friday night delivered a 12.2 rating in Houston, the highest-rated NBA game on ESPN ever locally. In the LA DMA, the game posted an 11.9 rating.
Moreover, the telecast was the network's highest-rated and most-viewed program in the 2009 Nielsen year (starting Dec. 30, 2008) to date.
ESPN's NBA playoff schedule resumes with an exclusive Game 6 doubleheader on May 14, with Boston-Orlando at 7 p.m., followed by the Lakers at the Rockets. Both of those series are knotted at two games apiece.
