View Full Version : Thoughts on our beloved Mavs tonight

Well what can I say, we just didn't play defense tonight. Too many turnovers, not enough help from JET and Josh. Nuggets made some timely 3's too.

I'm still proud of my guys. No such a thing as moral victories, and we did come up short this year, but I'm still proud of them given the progress of this year.

All I can say is, now we can focus on the offseason. We have some expiring contracts let's see if we can get some new pieces.

The window wasn't open this year, so the question is do the Mavs have the pieces to reopen the window? If the answer is no, it's probably best to dismantle the team within 1-2 years.

More thoughts to come.

I love JET but I think this entire season has proven that as great as he is, the Mavericks will never move forward unless he's gone. With J-Ho that's obvious.

No less surprising than Kobe tanking in the second half of a game 7.

I don't think JET is bad if the Mavs could make him a 4th or 5th option on offense by bringing in some better pieces.

His contract has 3 years remaining and he's 32 next year, I'm not sure if he can be moved.

Mavs need to dump him to get younger and more athletic.

He can be moved. He just won Sixth Man of the year, his trade value has never been better. Anybody in the NBA can be moved if you try hard enough.

Yes they need to dump him, but his shitty playoff year isn't typical. He's usually money in the playoffs.

glad Dallas lost kind of feel bad for Kidd, but only because he was a Nets so had to support him a little.

So happy Denver won though

I actually think that best moment of the game was when Kidd got hurt, not because he got hurt, but because Kenyon Martin was pretty much there to see if he was alright, you can tell they still are friends

ya, good year mavfan.

to be honest, you guys just didnt have the tools to get past denver.

but hey, you left the spurs in your wake and thats more than many can say.

im honestly a little worried about denver myself. not to jump ahead of houston, but with yao out, im figuring on us seeing them in the wcf, and those guys are a lot better than folks give them credit for.

they no doubt would have swept the spurs, hell, they would have beat the spurs in THREE!!!!!!

seriously tho, get j-ho's ankles better, and get another year with carlile, and i expect to see you in next years western conf. finals!!!!!!

where we will kik your asses!!!!!!!!!!!!!

kidding man, they had a good year, better than many, and left it all out there.

I love JET but I think this entire season has proven that as great as he is, the Mavericks will never move forward unless he's gone.

The only reason I would want Jet gone is because of the potential returns on selling high on a combo guard who had a career-best year at 31. I don't think he'll duplicate what he did this year, and I love him, he's one of my all-time favorite Mavs. I'll be upset when he finally does leave. I'm certainly not opposed to moving him with his trade value so high, but I think he's a guy any elite team would want to have. I think he has another 5 years in this League as a 6th-man type.

With J-Ho that's obvious

He earned my respect back with his playing on two ankles. His injuries are bad enough to require surgery, and he delayed it because the team would struggle to make the playoffs without him. And for the most part he was the old Josh, or at least a Josh playing more to his strengths. In many ways he's the perfect complement for Dirk. But again, the Mavs can't be shy about breaking up this core. Josh has redeemed his trade value with his play, but I wonder if they'll have difficulty moving him bc of his ankle and the uncertainty of what he'll be able to do when he comes back.

well for once we agree on something, I thought his contarct wasn't too good of one so might be hard to trade him, of course I think he is one of the players on the Mavs that could bring in some good players for the Mavs if you trade him

bottom line....

Dirk is pretty much Allen Iverson.

His numbers are going to look great, but....his numbers are only going to take us so far. We need a player who can make plays and make his numbers.

That simple...it is the bottom line. But this is our main guy....our strongest guy. We have to keep him.

Trade JET, and J-Ho. and work from there. Either trade Dirk or trade these two guys and work around him. The real problem is these 3 players ALL PLAY THE SAME GAME.

Ghazi
05-13-2009, 11:04 PM
J-Ho's end of the year was admirable but at the end of the day I just don't think he's a part of the core of a contending team, although we did win it all in 2006 and were good enough to at least be considered "contenders" in 2007.

It seems like you generally need two all-NBA caliber players to compete for a title although Lebron is probably the exception to this rule and Dirk was as well in 2006. J-Ho and JET aren't all-NBA caliber players and the Mavs' being sapped of their youth talent and athleticism from 2006 exposes it.

Keepers:

Dirk
Kidd (unless a team salary dumps us a great young PG)
Bass

Shop while their value is high:
Jet
Josh
JJB

Eh, Whatever:
Singleton
Green
Hollins

Expiring Contracts that could be useful trade bait:
Erick Dampier
Stack

Get the fuck out of Dallas:
Antoine Wright
Erick Dampier again
Devean George
Matt Carroll (oh wait, we can't, because inexplicably Charlotte gave you the MLE)
Shawne Williams

Ghazi

Carroll can be dumped if the right situation presents itself.

There are hypothetical trades where a team could take on his contract but be the ones dumping salary.
