I put this here because of the Bosh conversation. Please move if it belongs in NBA Central.

Blog Suggests Warriors Will Pursue Bosh (http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/59178/20090514/blog_suggests_warriors_will_pursue_bosh/)

In a vague and unsubstantiated blog post, Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News suggests that the Warriors will pursue Chris Bosh via a possible trade. Golden State also showed interest in the Raptors' All-Star at the trade deadline.

Kawakami suggests some potential deals, but later appeared to realize that they would be impossible according to the rules of the CBA.

Kawakami famously wrote on repeated occasions that Monta Ellis would never play for the Warriors again and would demand to be traded, which was proven inaccurate.

The Mercury News Piece:

Riley’s mandate: Go get Chris Bosh, if he can do it (http://blogs.mercurynews.com/kawakami/2009/05/14/rileys-mandate-go-get-chris-bosh-if-he-can-do-it/)
by Tim Kawakami

* On that Rowell comment about his consideration of other GM candidates. Note that he didn’t say that he interviewed other GM options. Because I’m told that he didn’t. In fact, league sources say that Rowell didn’t talk to anybody–or even survey the field, ask for permission, anything–before locking into Larry Riley.

If Rowell had a list, it was a private list, and he never did anything with it except file it back in his desk. Next time he looks at it will be for the next GM ”search,” when he will pretend to consider outsiders and then replace Riley with another inside bureaucrat who pleases Rowell.

Also: League executives expect Riley to surround himself with friendly faces to fill out the front-office staff. Larry Harris will almost certainly have a role, and one Warriors end-of-bench assistant who has become Riley’s favorite. Won’t name him until it’s made official, but he’s the guy who has been traveling with Riley on recent scouting expeditions, NBA sources say.

Travis Stanley, long-time exec VP/marketing and very close to Rowell and Cohan, will not be joining the basketball operations. I’ve suggested that in the past, and I would be shocked if Stanley isn’t deeply involved in some of the broader Rowell decision-making, but I’m told that Stanley will NOT be in the basketball ops. I stand corrected.

—-From what people around the league are saying, Larry Riley has two chances to turn his Warriors GM reign from a puppet-caretaker role into something resembling a true, successful power position…

The first involves total luck: Move up from the current No. 7 slot and land one of the top two picks in the draft lottery coming up next Tuesday.

(Warriors have a 4.3% shot at No. 1 and a 4.93% shot at No. 2. They’ve got a 5.76% shot at No. 3, but that’s not considered too valuable.)

Of course, that almost never happens to the Warriors. It’s still possible and if Riley gets the rights to Blake
Griffin, I’m sure we’ll be told how smart he is.

But, if the Warriors don’t experience a total lottery luck-out, then Riley’s mandate is to go get a proven, vital young veteran.

The main targeted veteran, I’m told, is Toronto’s Chris Bosh–no surprise, given how hard Riley tried to get him at last year’s trade deadline.

Though Bosh is a big member of the great free-agent class of 2010, and therefore potentially available in a deal this summer if the Raptors are scared of losing him next year, it’s hard to see Toronto giving him
away.

They’re going to want Anthony Randolph. The Warriors are going to have to think hard about anything involving Randolph, though I’m sure Don Nelson wouldn’t be broken-hearted about it. Heck, Randolph’s not going to be in his prime until Nelson is long retired, so why would Nellie want any part of him?

But could the Warriors trade Randolph, at 19 with a chance to be one of the top 10 players in the league in a few years… for a possible one-year rental of Bosh, who may or may not ever be a superstar?

(I guess Nelson thinks Bosh would be an idea big man in a scatter-ball mania.)

Another huge problem: To get Bosh, the Warriors almost have to include Andris Biedrins (no problem for Nellie, obviously) for value and contract purposes, but Biedrins remains a base-year player until June 30 next summerOOPS THAT CHANGES THINGS.

That’s complicated, but basically it means that a Biedrins-involved trade has to be a monster monetary deal (involving three or four big contracts going both ways) for Biedrins’ deal to fit into any trade. Update: But only until June 30. Again: OOPS.

Randolph and Biedrins for Bosh doesn’t even come close to a workable NBA trade. The money’s all wrong. The Warriors and Raptors would have to build another $10M or so both ways into this deal.

Also, by my reading of the CBA, I don’t believe Jamal Crawford can be traded until and unless he DOES NOT opt-out on June 30. It’s like the Baron Davis situation last year–Crawford, for trade purposes, is considered a potential free agent, and you can’t trade pending F/As until July 1.

If Crawford opts-in, which is likely, he can be traded after June 30, since he will then have two years left on his deal.

If he opts-out and becomes a free agent, then the Warriors can still sign-and-trade his rights after June 30. But, unless I’m wrong, Crawford CANNOT BE MOVED in the period from now until July 1, which means zero movement for him at draft time (June 25).

Obviously another candidate to be moved: Monta Ellis, but he’s also a base-year player until June 30 next summer.

Much easier to trade: Brandan Wright and Marco Belinelli, but they don’t have much value, thanks, in no small part, to Nelson’s handling of them.

Where the hell are the warriors going?! They had such promise in 2007 and looked like they were going to be a fun, run-n-gun team to be reckoned with for a while. Sad.

they don't play defense. they can't go deep in the playoffs without playing defense.

Now they have no direction, 2 years ago it seemed as if they were building something that was strong enough to knock out a team with one of the best regular seasons in league history.

With too many chasers diving into this battle, Bosh is very likely to be blown to a bubble prize which is much higher than the market value. The most we can bid is just the combo of expiring contracts, no way would we trade JET&Josh for him&fillers, or either one of JET and Smokey. I don't think a skinny PF/C can make a big change to our boys in blue.

As far as I know, In Raptors he was disappointed with the team's poor perfomances, if he joins Warriors, what would be the difference? Bosh dosen't like to be a loser, so if i were him, I wouldn't join Warriors.

If Nellie likes O so much, he'd prolly rather have Bosh. Bosh is better than anyone else that has been mentioned here. He's so much more versatile than Amare, IMHO, and actually plays D. If GSW gets him, it'll be great for them, but Im not too sure it'll be that good for Bosh esp if Nellie is relying on him to play all his team's D like he expected with Crawford. No one plays D on GSW but he throws Crawford under the bus (his best scorer) and states that his D was the reason. Nellie is a horrible, Bipolar coach who falls in and out of love with his players faster than a fat man can eat a cheeseburger. :lol It would be awsome if we could somehow by the grace of God get Bosh, but it seems impossible this offseason unless its for a straight salary dump, which I doubt they're interested in seeing how they offered Bosh an extension. :depressed

i dont think bosh is even that better than aldridge....

LMA has room to improve, but i think the gap is currently pretty clear. similar defensively and foul rate. bosh is a slightly better rebounder and passer. bosh is a good bit more efficient. and while bosh turns the ball over slightly more, but has a higher usage rate, so its not a real difference there.

the biggest difference is there style of play. while both rely on their outside shots, bosh is much more aggressive about getting to the basket. he draws about twice as many free throw attempt as LMA does. and thats a pretty big gap for two bigs.

its not a chasm between them, but i take bosh 10 times out of 10.
