Spurs type player. Role player who wants to win. Let's get him

If we nab this guy it would be a HUGE steal!
Spurs type of player.
Great athleticism, young Finley type of player. great shooter also.

mark my words, we wouldn't let the team down.

Defensively, Ellington leaves a lot to be desired. He’s not someone that you would ever call a scrapper and doesn’t really cause havoc on this end of the court. He doesn’t have an overly impressive wingspan (6-7) and his lateral quickness could use some work. He gets exposed when isolated on the perimeter against a quicker player, but struggles perhaps even more when chasing an opposing guard through screens
Finley type player indeed....

I could see him having a somewhat Flip Murray-type role.

He worked out with Spurs on May 20th (source: 48MOH (http://www.48minutesofhell.com/2009/06/04/draft-combine-leftovers/#more-3078) )

Why is Wayne Ellington not in your 1st round anymore?

Chad Ford

Never was, but could be. But I actually think more likely to crack the first round are a few bigs like Jeff Pendegraph, Taj Gibson and DeMarre Carroll ... guards tend to slip toward the end of the draft

I like, not love, Ellington but if he falls all the way to the second-round?

The combination of talent and chip he could potentially have on his shoulder, might just be the type of ingredients needed to be the next Michael Redd...

Chad Ford's latest mock draft has him falling to 40. Would you take him at 37? I'm not sold either way.

^DraftExpress mentions the possibility of draft being shaken if Ellington is taken at 17 to Philadelphia.

that is a reach especially since they just picked up a shooter in kapono

DX has us taking him with #37.

I can definitively see Spurs taking him at #37 if he is available and Spurs trading Mason for a big.

I had the same thought.:tu

The Spurs' 3-point shooting could possibly take a hit next year, depending on what they do in free-agency, so getting rid of Mason for a rookie would be a risk.

Jefferson is a scorer whose 3-point shooting has trended up but he's a scorer, not so much a shooter at heart, Tony doesn't shoot the 3, they've lost Bowen, (for the time being) Horry, and Bonner hasn't proven to be trustworthy under pressure.

That leaves the Spurs with Manu. A guy who isn't a pure-shooter, but has proven to be plenty capable of knocking down the 3 under pressure.

I like Ellington and don't think he'd be a bad replacement for Mason in the long-term, but unless the Spurs get a Wallace to play the 5 or another role-playing-type, veteran/proven, 3-point specialist?

Trading Mason and leaving only a proven Manu, could be a dicey situation.
