I remember liking this guy a year ago. If he goes undrafted, I'd like to see him on our SL roster.

Lester Hudson

Former UT Martin guard Lester Hudson was named the Ohio Valley Conference Male Athlete of the Year on Wednesday, but that's not why Hudson is excited.

Hudson said he has been impressing NBA general managers while working out for seven NBA teams in his two-week NBA road trip.

"I learned a lot from going through this process last season, and I am not as nervous," Hudson said. "I have been getting really good feedback.

"Most of the teams want to play me at point guard, but several said I might be a combo guard."

Hudson has worked out for Houston, Memphis, San Antonio, Washington, Milwaukee, Miami and Minnesota.

A workout consists of individual drills and weightlifting as well as competing against other potential draftees in skills competitions and games.

He is projected in the late first or second round, but the 24-year-old believes he is more NBA-ready than most of the 2009 Draft class.

"A lot of teams want a scoring point guard," Hudson said. "I still have to mature a lot, but I have been a leader in these workouts by directing players in the workouts.

"The economy is slow right now, and teams need players that can contribute right away."

Most draftees are participating in the NBA Draft Combine in Chicago, but Hudson said he was not invited to that event.

"General managers have told me that they are comfortable with my skills, and they didn't need to see anymore," Hudson said.

Hudson is spending several days in his hometown Memphis.

He led the Skyhawks to their first OVC regular season title while scoring 27.5 points, second to only Davidson's Stephen Curry.

Hudson is only the fourth player to win consecutive OVC Male Athlete of the Year awards.

I think he made a mistake not coming out last year he would of been a late first early second now i don't see him on anybody's mock draft board.

Particularly late, he'd be pretty interesting. He's pretty much a George Hill clone physically (including the Freaky long arms)

Hudson
Height w/shoes Weight Wingspan Standing Reach Body Fat
6' 1" 196 6' 8.75" 8' 2.5" 3.4
No Step Vert Max Vert Bench Press Lane Agility 3/4 Court Sprint
30.5 36.0 12 11.15 3.16
Hill
Height w/shoes Weight Wingspan Standing Reach Body Fat
6' 2.5" 181 6' 9" 8' 1.5" 3.0
No Step Vert Max Vert Bench Press Lane Agility 3/4 Court Sprint
34.0 37.5 9 12.20 3.07

And they have very much the same background. Key player on their college team as lead guard expected to carry the scoring load...
Hill has been really impressive, I'd certainly consider a shot with 51 or 53. If Hill is considered experienced enough to take over Vaughn's spot, a pair of octo-armed combo guards as backcourt backups would be nice.

Obviously he can score (27.5) and he comes from a little known school and conference. The Spurs might do another Hill move and pick a player like Hudson that many have never heard of.
