View Full Version : Q: Did Tim opt for or against knee surgery?

From what I understand, surgery may correct the problem (as it did with Sean Elliott), but rest would only be a temporary solution; the tendonosis would come back once he began playing again.
Has anyone heard any information on whether Duncan did or did not have the surgery, and perhaps why or why not?
If he did not have the surgery, would Pop keep him out of all back-to-back games (front or back end, depending on the matchups)?

Surgery was mentioned in the media, never by Duncan or the Spurs. As far as I know there's no surgery scheduled.
I would expect Pop to manage his minutes carefully, I wouldn't be surprised if Duncan sat out one game of back-to-backs.

So this is chronic now and he will deal with it the rest of his career :(, that doesn't sound too good to me.
I wish Timmay could turn back the clock and be atleast 29 again, I miss that TIMMAY.

It's degenerative, and it's here to stay. From what I understand, it's going to be a matter of severity on any given night.
I'm hoping the longer summer of rest helps. I'm sure he's got the best care for it.
His left knee is chronic. It's been bothering him a while, this past season it seemed worse.
Duncan has a lot left in him. His knees are trouble, but if anyone can play through it he can. And he will.

No...With about 100 days of rest, it's possible for Collagen to re-grow to make tendonosis be less of an issue. It's sad to say but since the team got the boot early, 100 days shouldn't be an issue.
But with Tim and the Spurs, they need to find a way to let him keep up his fitness without interfering with the healing process. Swim...but swim carefully, think more upper body than lower leg.

Tony will continue to grow and Manu might be back and have a good year to take the load off, thats all I can hope for.

I'm hoping we see a steady Duncan. If he doesn't have to carry the load early, and his minutes are managed, he should be able to come into the home stretch okay.
I think we need more help too. And we need the Big Three as healthy and rested as possible to have a chance at a run.

It's definitely time to trade Timmy, then. Trade him to Phoenix for Shaq. We can't keep Timmy around anymore if he's going to be injured. Shaq is so young and exuberant that he will flourish into a star here in SA. If Timmy can't stay healthy, then we have to get rid of him. It might be hard, but if Spurs fans want to win a title, then we need to suck it up and trade him away. Or if we do choose to keep him around, it needs to be for the veteran minimum. We need to clear cap space, though, so trading him away this summer would be the best idea.

I once was under the impression that the tendonosis is incurable and chronic, but that is not necessarily true. In 80% of cases, with proper rest and rehabilitation, the tendon is restored.
So most likely, the limiting factor for the Spurs in 2010 will not be Tim's knee problems, but rather R.C. Buford's inability to put decent players around him up front.

Seriously I think R.C. Buford is the most overrated GM in the league.
