Who would you take, assuming you knew what they'd turn out to be like in their careers.

Again, assume all of them were ENTERING the draft (aka, starting their career)

Duncan
Shaq
Garnett
Nash
Dirk
Lebron
Kobe
Wade
Howard
Paul
Yao
Kidd

Duncan...hands down. Only one I'd take over Duncan is Jordan...he wasn't on the list.

Shaq would be the easiest guy to build around. Duncan would be next. Lebron, then Kobe. Its good thing we had two of the top four.

my bad i thought he was talking about right now, but since he isnt I would agree exactly with you on this list

pauls931

shaq
Lebron
duncan
garnet

in that order if we're doing the list thing.

I have no idea why nash and kidd are on that list.

Yeah, in order, I'd prob take Duncan, Shaq then Lebron.
Howard might've been higher if he could play offense

yea i think were talking in their primes, if thats the case Shaq should be the first pick forsure and it should be uncertain yet for Lebron, Dwight, CP3....Are they all in their prime right now????

Just like I mentioned in the thread, this would be a draft, so the players would all be starting their careers

1st tier options -

Duncan

Shaq

Lebron

2nd tier options -

Garnett

Howard

Yao

the rest (Dirk, Kidd, Nash, Paul) are all questionable cornerstones for championships

Wade and Kobe would be at the bottom of the list
...Building around a SG a la MJ is fool's gold... You're even better off building around an elite PG over an elite SG..

Duncan should have the slight edge on Shaq...

He started his rookie season like gangbusters..and won the championship in his second year. Come on. Prime Duncan with enough money, gives you an unlimited ceiling and plenty of flexibility for a dynasty....who knows if he doesn't get injured in his knee in his third year, you'd have a Duncan who could still jump.

Shaq just entering would take three years to get a little smarter, that's why I think Duncan is the best option to have your eyes set on as many championships in the immediate future.

Either of them would win you a possible 5,6 championships within an 8 year plan...though

Pistons < Spurs

Without a doubt, the correct answer is Shaq.

I voted LeBron but I should have voted Shaq. Didn't read the part that they'd all be at the beginning of their careers.

Shaq
Lebron
Kobe

Shaq has 4 rings.

Don't think you could go wrong with Tim or Shaq, honestly.

Shaq has 4 rings.

Yep but, his were not won as a Spur. Tim has led us to 4 championships...thus Shaq comes in second.

1) Duncan - was a beast coming out of college, championship mentality.

2) Shaq - easiest to build around, just a matter of how many championships you could squeeze outta him before he kills the team.

3) LeBron - one in a generation kind of talent.

Would you choose Garnett over LeBron because he has 1 ring?

Nope! I'd take Lebron if I had too choose between just those two. But, if I were an NBA owner, GM or coach either one would be nice to have to build around.

Always go with the most dominant big man.

shaq,duncan
But I voted duncan

I'll take Duncan, since I know Shaq would run off to a big market once his rookie deal is up.

Duncan or Shaq.

Shaq was physically more dominant, but Duncan is better when it comes to incorporating the rest of the team. Duncan is also a better franchise player.

Shaq.

If he started his career the year MJ was retiring, he'd have over 5.
