Lucky SOB! good for you but I think you won't get your dream matchups, IMO the quarters will be Federer/Roddick and Djokovic/Del Potro.

well del potro is favourite against tsonga, but monfils will win easily against roddick.

IDK Roddick is playing really well and Monfils is injured, game wise in clay I agree: Monfils should win but I think that Roddick will pull it off out of mental toughness only, in fact I wouldn't be too surprise if Monfils retires in that game like he did in Australia against Simon, when later he admitted that it was a more of a "mental injury" than a physical one. I'd love to see Monfils beating Roddick but I don't think it will happen.

i didn't think he'd go far too, but i've watched the 1st 2 games of monfils and he was impressive so we'll see.

Classy quote from Rafa. I'll be rooting hard for Federer, and I wouldn't be surprised if he does as well.

Wow, just wow. I never would have guessed Nadal losing. He's been playing out of his mind.

This is basically Federer's to lose, especially with Djokovic out too. Federer has a chance for redemption and to take everyone forget the mess he has last year. How ironic would be it be if he ends up winning the 14th to tie Sampras at the French Open?

Roger survives in 5. I hate to say it but he is just not the same guy he was a few years ago. Strange cause he's still pretty young..

carina_gino20
06-01-2009, 09:47 AM
Yeah. But I'm just glad he won. Good thing he woke up in time. It helped that Haas choked too. Tomorrow, Roger will have to rethink what went wrong in those first two sets. With Rafa and Nole out, it's really his best chance right now. He's got to take it.

You won't be able to see Del Potro-Robredo right? I think in Chatrier there will only be a women and a men's match. (which will obviously be Federer/Monflis).

delpotro-robredo will be on the Suzanne Lenglen, i will miss Stosur-Cirstea on the chatrier though, i'll still be at work.

p.s. the ambiance is better on the Lenglen, it's a little smaller and more convivial. It's my favourite court in RG.

Security did an abysmal job with that guy. He ran all the way down the stands, got on the court and was next to Roger with that stupid flag for a good 8-10 seconds.. He could have attacked Roger, and injured him. The idiots in charge of security should all be fired..

So happy for a great champion. I loved when that lone tear ran down his left cheek as they played his national anthem.

Viva La Fed!!! :)

If anyone deserves this, it's Federer. :tu

Sampras deserved it also

How so? He was a terrible clay court player. Never made a final and was out in the early RDs year after year. Fed has been the 2nd best Clay Courter in the world, losing only to probably the best clay courter of all time in Nadal..

actually he went to the SF in 1996 with 2 or 3 five-sets games, he was tired against kafelnikov.

And Fed was in the final 4 years in a row, there is no denying who the better clay court player is..

:lol Sampras wasn't even close to being the clay court player Federer has been. You can definitely make the case that if not for Nadal, Federer would have won the French Open at least 2-3 times by now. You definitely cannot make any argument that would make you say Sampras could have won the French 2-3 times. He only reached the semi's there once. Federer has reached the FINALS at the French 4 times.

No doubt Fed is much clay court player than Sampras but at Sampras time there were more clay court players specialists than today, Sampras had to deal with Agassi, Bruguera, Courier, Muster, Kafel, Gustavo K, Moya...
I just think that for his whole carreer and achievements it would have been nice. On top of that it would have been nice to see a pure service and volley player winning the French open.

Gustavo K

He is a good one, man was a hell of a clay court player, the best one the French had seen in a long time before Nadal came along. But i think the overall argument against Fed in terms of competiton is not fair. He steamrolled Agassi towards the end of his run and Andre was ten times the player at 34 that he was at 24. He took out Samparas en route to his first Wimbledown crown, and Pete had enough left to still take the Open Crown and retire on top soon after. Some of the other guys in that era, Courier, Chang, Rafter, Kafelnikov, and the others mentioned, none of those guys would be serious threats to Roger IMO, especially on the grass and Hard courts.. Agassi said this about Fed after the US open final loss

"He's the best I've ever played against," Agassi said after falling to Federer 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (1), 6-1 on Sunday in the U.S. Open final. "Pete was great. No question. But there was a place to get to with Pete. You knew what you had to do. If you do it, it could be on your terms. There's no such place like that with Roger"

I think even if it's totally uncheckable Moya, Muster, Bruguera would give a lot of headache to Roger.

Anyway IMO we can safely say now that Fed is the greatest tennis player ever, he became the equivalent of MJ, Shum etc... If I were him I would spend the rest of my career to try to achieve the Grand Slam the 4 in a row.
