I'm so sorry to hear that. My condolances are with you and the girl and her family. One has to be in so much pain to go through that. I have my own thoughts on suicide, but I'll keep them to myself. I hope she makes it and gets through whatever caused her to take this action.

Must be traumatic seeing someone you know sprawled on the floor on the brink of death. I Hope it wont affect you or your GF emotionally.
May I ask how she did it? << not required to be answered, im just a little curious.

I suspect that was a murder rather than a suicide, according to some similar cases I have inspected as an investigator. I have never heard anyone committing suicide in an apartment, hopefully the cops are not too idiotic to find that suspicion. Condolences and prayers anyways...

Sorry, that's so terrible. Were there any previous signs? Most people can't keep their tendencies hidden from everyone they know.

For the curious, almost all failed female suicides are either failure to overdose or failure to self-asphyxiate. Unfortunately this leads to a high incidence of permanent brain damage in survivors.

thanks guys,

well she survived and seems to be happy to be alive. The 3 of us had a long conversation this morning and we learned it wasn’t the first time. She’s suffering from serious depression. Only their mother knew about her previous attempts and she asked her to not talk to anyone about it. My girfriend doesn’t want her mother to be near her sister anymore. So we’ll take some day off and she’ll stay with us for a few weeks, then she’ll live with their grandparents .

We’re a little anxious actually, we don’t really know how to handle the situation when she’ll live with us. Any advice?

Did she not get counseling after this attempt???

I'm so sorry, but relieved to hear she's doing ok.

I can only share my perspective as someone who has had loved ones attempt suicide. Afterwards, they were pretty emotionally fragile - and I was too - and it was just weird. We tried to do normal things and act normally and sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't, you know? If she's not in counseling, she needs to be, and you might consider it too. I had a hard time acknowledging that I felt a lot of anger towards my loved ones because they attempted suicide, and a lot of anger towards myself for not recognizing the signs that were there.

It took a long time to rebuild some of that trust, and even today - years and years after the fact - there are still things that make me exceptionally anxious and worried about my loved ones, and I don't want to let them out of my sight for awhile. But I have to learn to trust them to be open with me and I have to let them live their lives without micro-analyzing everything they do and say and treating them like they are about to explode.

yes she's received counseling from a psychiatrist and she will probably see another specialist after leaving the hospital.

I don't know how i will feel in a few days. I went from shock to sadness, now there may be some feelings of guilt for not seeing any signs or warnings that something was wrong.
