Fuck.....I hate thinking about it.

I got called to show up for Jury Duty on April 27th (my first time) and I'm not really familiar with the process or anything. But the attachement said if you have a valid reason for excuse write a letter and mail it back to us. I had school then and I had not time for jury duty (which was one of the valid reasons listed on the paper), so I wrote them a letter saying I have school and blah blah and if you can reschedule me during the period of June 1st to June 22nd, because I start Summer school on the 22nd of June. I haven't recieved a response from them, but I did recieve a response that I missed my April 27th date and I need to call them to sort things out. So should I call them and tell them that I sent you guys a letter but I recieved no reponse for my excuse or what? Because my friends said if you don't show up to jury duty you can get some consqeunces/implications and even a warrant for your arrest. So what do I do?

I also asked my prof. if I can get out of it and she said they normally let undergrad. students go from her experiences and she also said that one time they told the judge or whoever that her and her husband have their PhD's and are professors and they let them go.

I don't think you normally receive a response after you send you send in the form that says "I can't do it, I am a student (or I have a young child, or whatever). I mean, if your excuse was ok that is.

After reading that, I feel that my letter stating that I'm a student will suffice and I don't feel like I have to pursue this any longer. And I tried calling them 3 times and every button I press a computer just keeps on talking about procedures so. I'll try once more and if I can't get a hold of a human, then :wakeup

EDIT: So I just talked to a lady and she said it doesn't matter if you're a student you have to show up and maybe the judge will pardon your leave, so you have to show up tommorow. So I don't know, don't really feel like going.

I would recommend that you go. If you get dismissed, as you are likely to, you will only be there for a few hours and then you are not required to serve again for a long time.

Who knows, you might even enjoy the experience.

To claim an exemption you must complete the form on the jury summons, sign it, and return the form in person or by mail to the following address:

is over 70 years of age;

From what I could find Googling, California does not have the same exemptions that Texas has- not for students and not even for people who have sole responsibility for a young child. Looks like you have to show up. If you are on a panel, they may ask if anything will make it difficult for you to serve if the trial lasts for an extended period of time, and you can tell them when summer school starts.

Yeah most likely I will show up tommorow. Most of my friends that I've talked to say it's not bad and they're usually out in 3-4 hours or sometimes a little more. Plus I get 5 dollars.

Funny, I sat in on jury selection today for a trial. Just say you're prejudiced for whatever reason, or bring up something that will get one of the lawyers to immediately disqualify you from the selection pool. That'll get you out early.

I've been summoned for Jury Duty more times than I'd like to count. Its like they REALLY want me to serve on a panel... If my name gets called I just say the person looks guilty. IDGAF if they are right there in front of me or what color they are, if it gets me released then your a guilty looking SOB right then and there.

So I went today and I got picked to be on the jury. Fuck.

Some homeless dude for beign drunk in public. Fuck.

I came home because they gave us a lunch break and they want me back the court at 130. Fuck.

My whole day is ruined. Fuck.

This process is a joke. Next time I get a jury duty letter I'm throwing that shit away.

I served on a capital murder jury. Fun, you betcha, but the guy (who was incredibly guilty, even the judge said afterwards that it was about as open-and-shut as could be) got a fair trial. I'm thankful that we did not have to worry about deciding whether to give the death penalty; for some reason, the prosecution took that option off the table before the trial started.

I've been on two jurys now. It's an interesting process. The first one, I didn't like, and we had bleeding heart liberals who wanted to award a woman maximum damages, even though she was at fault. We argued and argued in the jury room for hours. Shamed the libtards into the law, that just because one person has the resources, we don't reward the poorer of the two.

The second was an easy on. We nailed a gang-banger, on a clear case of assault. That one felt so good... No hold outs on the guilty pleads, just uncertainty of some on how many charges to find him guilty of. We found him guilty on all except attempted murder.
