my roomate just got his updated two weeks ago. you should have a giganews account, newsleecher, and check binsearch.info for releases. Torrent sites aren't good enough for files of that size.

xbox360iso.com is not a torrent site, it offers rar files via direct links and is very fast. Last night I was downloading files at almost 2mb's per second with a paid account on megaupload.com

Giga is $25/mo with 200 days of binary retention. You can just create .nzb's right off binsearch.info, open them with newsleecher. It's easy. I can guarantee you anything on that site was posted to the newsgroups at least 12 hours earlier. newsgroups aren't in any danger of being randomly shut down either.

newsgroups >> sites

You should check out ngroups. $12 a month for 278 days of retention (their goal is to reach 400 days soon).

You can do itself if you read some tutorials and you're comfortable with it. Basically all it's modding is your DVD drive by flashing the firmware. All you need is a SATA card.

This is the guy I used. Quick work, no problems and he walked me through choosing the right firmware for the time I modded.

I used his services about 3 weeks ago. I remember it was right before the UFC game came out.

What are you guys paying for mods? I have a spare 360 sitting around that I might consider modding.

IronMexican

You mean to take to someone? Don't pay any more than 40 bucks. You should find people that charge 30.

PM5K

I could probably do it myself, but I only have laptops in the house so I might not have the best hardware to do it, but who knows because I do have a lot lying around.

IronMexican
08-06-2009, 06:56 PM
You need a desktop to do it.

The thing I read says some Hitachi drives will work with a SATA to USB adapter.

i opened my old pc up and just connected the sata to the drive but then again i have a samsung... the other drive the new benq or whatever you need a probe. mine i did in like 5 minutes. works flawlessly still and it's been like 2 months now.

IronMexican

i had to because my buddy has the newest 360 with that benq drive... we tried making the probe from capacitors and whatnot but it never worked. he ended up purchasing a probe for like $12 online and when it got here we were done in 5 minutes.

So what's the deal with playing backups on Live? Everything I've read about it is years old so I don't know if it still applies, seems that if the games are stealth patched, and you have the right firmware, you aren't likely to be banned (Unless you play a game before it officially comes out).

Thoughts?

IronMexican
08-12-2009, 06:48 PM
That is correct. Just don't play MANY games before release. I am sure MS wont realize one or two.

Does the stealth patch only applies to backup games? Like if I downloaded a game, which is not a backup, do I still need to stealth patch that game?

What game would you download that's not a backup?

Is that a *wink wink* question? Or a serious question?

It's a totally serious question, because otherwise I have no idea what you mean at all.

koriwhat

^ you can download games from xlive so... maybe that's what he's asking?

still, it makes no sense though because you can't rip the game from your HD, stealth patch it and burn it to a disc. thus not making it a backup.

Im talking about IF (keyword "if") I download games that I dont own. Do those games needs to be stealth patch as well or does the firmware takes care of all that?

PM5K
08-14-2009, 05:28 AM
You seem to be confused, a downloaded game and a backup are essentially the same thing.

I was going to barter to have someone else do it for me but I found a PCI SATA card lying around so I borrowed a desktop and did it myself.

I should have done this sooner but I didn't want to risk my Live account on my Elite, so I used this unit I got for 30 bucks as the guinea pig.

I'm going to try and mod my 360. And different sites say different things. Do I need just a PCI SATA card and the program to flash it? Or do I have to open up and solder as well?

I just did mine so I'm no expert but what you have to do depends on what drive you have.

How old is your 360, does it have HDMI?

I'm going to mod one of the Halo 360s. It overheats and ended up being an extra one so I figured I'd mess with it. As long as no soldering is involved I think I can do it.

Check this out first to figure out what drive you have:

Ok thanks, I have the Hitachi so seems like it will be relatively easy

PM5K
08-16-2009, 06:30 PM
The newest firmware that works with the Hitachi is 1.5, 1.4 won't work with Madden 10 from what I've read and I don't know if 1.6 is out for the Hitachi yet either.

As far as I know no soldering is involved, it's all software based.
