Besides Kobe or Dwight who will be the MVP? (http://blogs.usatoday.com/gameon/2009/06/wednesday-eyeopener-other-than-kobe-or-dwight-who-will-be-the-mvp.html)

Good morning.

Some things are easy to figure.

Like picking the Most Valuable Player of the NBA playoffs. Just search out the Hall of Famer or a top 50 player in history and make a check mark.

Michael Jordan is a six-time winner. Magic Johnson, Tim Duncan and Shaquille O’Neal are three time winners. Kareem Abdul Jabbar won a pair, 14 years apart. Larry Bird won two in three years.

Every now and then, a player who is great but not among the greatest, will win. A Cedric Maxwell, Dennis Johnson, Joe Dumars or a Tony Parker.

A journeyman? Never.

This year it would seem that the engravers can get a head start on the trophy by etching out K-o-b-e or D-w-i-g-h-t.

Bodog.com (http://sports.bodoglife.com/sports-betting/nba-player-props.jsp) has Kobe at 1-2 and Howard at 3-1. Pau Gasol and Rashard Lewis are both 8-1 with Hedo Turkoglu at 15-1.

So if you threw out Bryant and Howard, who would be your best bet to handle the hardware as his teammates are leaping into each other’s arms?

Who besides Kobe and Dwight could be the NBA Finals MVP?

Pau Gasol
Rashard Lewis
Hedo Turkoglu
Lamar Odom
Trevor Ariza
Mickael Pietrus
Derek Fisher

1% chance of another guy maybe:

Pau, Jameer, Hedo, Lamar, Bynum, Ariza

That's about it.

Question, if the Lakers win the championship but Kobe doesn't win the Finals MVP, would that be as much of a hit to his ego as actually losing the Finals? Would he go insane if Andrew Bynum broke out in this series and won it? I mean literally clinicly insane?

Getting the Shaq monkey off his back would more than ease the blow of having Gasol win Finals MVP. No one thinks any less of Bird for Cornbread Maxwell winning it over him in 81, or Duncan for Parker winning it in 07, or Worthy over Magic in 88, and so on.

Only thing with those dudes is that they were all multiple winners of the award.

Kobe will NEVER let that happen.

Exactly, Kobe has never won a finals MVP. He needs one to be up there with those guys.

Exactly what I was thinking. It's easier to accept for them because they have their Finals MVP. Plus, Magic and Bird and Duncan were not really criticized for being a second banana on any of their title teams. This is where Kobe's ego will make it tough for him to swallow if the Lakers win and Kobe doesn't get the Finals MVP.

Kobe will NEVER let that happen.

Which could be very bad for the Lakers if that's the case. It's a sub-plot of the Finals to see how Kobe paces himself during games. Will he be aggressive early to get his stats out of the way so he's free to make the "right play" to win the games later in the games? Or will he play unselfish facilitator most of the game and try to take over late in the game but by doing so force up shots and try to be the hero? Or will he play the entire series unselfishly and do whatever it takes for the Lakers to win even if it hurts his chances at winning the Finals MVP? I think it's something interesting to monitor in these Finals.

Loks like I got a language barrier here, so if any of you guys could help me out I'd appreciate it.

I'd like to know what is meant by journeyman in this context?
