Sure doesn't to me.

I didn't see the Magic even putting up a fight.

2007 were boring as shit because both teams played slow tempo ugly basketball. At least the viewers got to watch Kobe go into video game mode in the 3rd. Ratings will be much stronger than 2007.

I prefer a game of this flow to the '06 Finals tainted by whistles and the boring uncompetitive '07 Finals.

I think this will be a competitive series.

hell the Magic even increased their lead in the 1st quarter into the 2nd quarter when Howard picked up his 2nd foul, Gortat did a great job. Right after that is when Nelson checked in and the Lakers made their run the rest of the game.

It's one fucking game...Lakers lost to Houston in Game 1..give it a rest...If Orlando takes game 2, all of a sudden they can win all their games at home and take it. 3 games in a row in Orlando is going to hurt LA IMO

Jacob1983

The Magic came out flat against the Lakers. I know it's only 1 game but if they play this the rest of the series, they will get swept. And Howard needs to take advantage from the love he's getting from the refs. Make your free throws, son.

I enjoyed the fuck out of this game. As long as the Lakers bring this intensity every game I'm happy. Orlando had a few open looks but for the most part the Lakers put the clamps on. Impressive for a team that has been said to not play any defense, and that it will be their downfall...

We were so geared towards playing Boston, and then the Cavs, and now we get the ugly chic in the Magic. There seems to be no threat.

Um..the fact that LA has been incredibly inconsistent, and Orlando has bounced back and won difficult games on the road against Cleveland and Boston...they don't let a loss affect them...Besides..they know they need to win Game 2...if Orlando loses Game 2, it just may be over.

This is the NBA Finals. There will not be another game where the Laker's effort is inconsistent.

And you did not answer my original question. What specifically did you see in Game 1 that gives you confidence that the Magic will come out and defeat the Lakers on their home floor in Game 2?

I saw nothing in Game 1 that would make me think that..but that's the beauty..it's not about Game 1...it's about Game 2...We'll see you after that one..if you win that one, it's pretty much over.

that was the Magic led by Alston, these Magic will be inconsistent the rest of the series because of Nelson, it sucks because this could have been a competitive series.

One of the Magic need to literally re injure Nelson's shoulder

The Cavs never belonged in the NBA Finals to begin with. Way too immature and arrogant for a team that has accomplished absolutely nothing.

Word I was lookin for was knee jerk. big DEAL if I got a prediction wrong :lol

series isn't over. magic are a schizo team. reason they lost by 25 tonight is "sorta" the same reason they fell behind by 20+ twice to Cavs, blew 18 pt lead v Sixers, blew 14 pt lead v Celtics, almost blew 28 pt lead v Celtics, etc I think it'll cost them this series along with unfavorable matchups but here we have Dr House who thought lakers would lose to nugs, then claimed anti-jinx, talking about next years finals as if this years finals are already decided.

its just KNEE jerkage dammit.

as for my rooting preference i am indifferent although i would be happy for 2006 NBA champions powell/mbenga if they get their 2nd ring.

I dont care how many 3's the Magic made or missed. That shit isnt going to cut it against a team like the Lakers. If Howard continues to struggle and if Hedo/Lewis etc cant drive to the basket, Orlando is fucked. You arent going to beat LA by shooting three pointers regardless of if you are open or not. You better have success at driving to the hoop against LA, or you arent beating them 4 times.

It was without any excitement.

Have you seen ABC try to do back stories on the Magic? Nope.

NBA Junkie
06-05-2009, 04:49 AM
There's not a player on the Magic roster that's appeared in an NBA finals contest and it showed.

Game 2 will be much closer. Historically, teams that play poorly come out and play much much better in the next game.

The Magic will not repeat 29% shooting coupled with just one Dwight Howard basket in game 2.

The Magic will not play as badly as they did in Game 1.

However, their chances are not good to make this much of a series because they simply don't match up well with the Lakers. None of the matchup advantages they could exploit against Cleveland are available in this series.

IMO this series is still gonna be marginally competitive. There was a stretch in the 3rd where Orlando just fell completly apart, but other than that they were right in the game. They didn't look overmatched, i think they underestimated Bryant, not expecting him to catch fire.

All championship teams have one thing in common and that is that they play defense when it matters, whoever plays better defense will always win. The Magic didn't play any but they can still turn it around, this series is not over.

This whole board has a problem with premature ejaculation.

Yup...that series was basically over as soon as it started...I was happy the Spurs won the title, but it was way too easy. I didn't even bother buying a shirt. :lol

Unless Orlando comes out in Game 2 and proves that Game 1 was a fluke, this series is over. It's likely the Lakers will sweep. I'm not happy about it, but it is what it is. :toast

Orlando's chances of winning this series will largely depended on how much leeway the refs are gonna give Howard to muscle lakers out of his way in the paint.

It seems to depend on who's guarding Howard. Against CLE's Joe Smith for instance, I noticed Howard was not allowed to use aggressive tactics, and they rung him up for offensive fouls when he tried. Oddly, after the 1st game or 2, Brown stopped playing Smith, and instead used Varejao and Illguaskas the rest of the way, and both of those guys did not get the same type of calls. Against these two, Howard was allowed to use his shoulder to bump and push Varejao out of his way, and he used alot of force in doing so, without drawing fouls. Couple times he nearly took Big Z's head off, and still they swallowed (the refs).

If this first game against the lakers was any indication, its gonna be a long series for Howard, as they absolutely did not allow him to do the same to the laker's interior defenders as he did to the cavs. Gasol in particular seems to be good at flopping and fooling the refs into thinking he was hammered when in reality he was barely touched. If the refs are going to call Howard every time a laker spazzes out over being bumped the magic will not be able to get their inside-out game going and it will be a short series.
