View Full Version : ECF Ratings higher than Game 1 of NBA Finals

Thunder Dan
06-05-2009, 02:29 PM
Last night drew a 9.4 share on network TV for a total of 9.4 million viewers. Games 5 of the ECF drew a 6.3 share for a total of 10.075 viewers on TNT, Game 6, also on TNT, drew a 6.2 rating for 9.995 million viewers.

The one constant is the Magic, so it appears that the people have spoken, they prefer Lebron to Kobe.

I have a hard time believing Lebron has more haters than Kobe. I mean Kobe plays for a polarizing franchise, and he raped someone.

Would you rather have the more popular player or the player that wins?

And, your numbers are skewed anyway. The longer the playoff series goes, the more people will tune in. Games 5, 6, and 7 are generally more viewed than games 1-4. What was the share and viewership for game 1 of Orlando-Cleveland? That's a little better gauge. Plus, last night was a blowout in the third and fourth quarters. That loses viewership.

But, if it's solace for you that LeBron is more "popular" than Kobe, good on ya.

because he changed his number so all the 8 jerseys were obsolete. Lebron has had the same jersey for 6 years.

Plus, when Cavs fans go to buy a jersey they have to make a tough choice between buying Lebron over Mo Williams, Andy, Z and even Wally. The Lakers only have 1 jersey to buy.

that is the thing they forget to mention when they make the top jersey list. There are so many options when it comes to buying a Cavs jersey. I didn't even mention Boobie Gibson, Delonte West and Ben Wallace. Those guys all steal sales from Lebron.

I would think that more viewers can watch something on ABC than they can on TNT. That's the whole reason they put it on network television to begin with because you have to have cable to watch TNT- anyone with a TV can watch ABC

Maybe I'm mistaken but I thought there was a thread that previously showed higher ratings on TNT when compared to ESPN/ABC in the ECF/WCF or something. If that's the case, then it's more likely due to the fact that TNT pulls in better rating as opposed to the Magic being unwatchable. Thought I'm not denying that the Kobe-LeBron hype would've helped.

2 other things about Lebron's jersey sales

1) Cleveland is not warm year round like LA- so that makes jerseys non essential items. I bet that Lebron sells more hooded sweatshirts than Kobe and is #1 in the league in long sleeve tshirts

2) Cleveland is very fashion conscious. Everyone knows that only douche bags and little kids wear jerseys, we opt for more stylish Cavs gear, not the played out jerseys.
