...i'm surprised it wasn't A&M across the board.

I saw that too. I would put A&M at #3. Notre Dame is truly #1 though.

Top 2 are definitely right.

I've often wondered if I somehow came into a massive amount of money (say, a few hundred million to a billion or so), what could be done to put A&M into the perennial 4-5 top teams nationally?

What do we lack that other top schools have that would draw more talented players -things we could buy or build, that is. Part of it is winning in and of itself. Winning creates a snowball effect in which the school that does well draws better talent, and continues winning. Losing is a vicious cycle because you can't get those players to come anymore, and lose more as a consequence. Assuming you had a few hundred million to blow and you wanted to send A&M to the top, what could you do (legally, of course)?

recruiting has been solid enough year in and year out for the aggies, so that's not really the problem.

The problem has been the coaching since Slocum left. Fran obviously sucked and Sherman aint the answer. They got burned so bad with Fran that they appear to be scared to think outside the box and played it way too conservatively with that hiring.

Personally, I think they missed out by not getting Art Briles. That guy may have Baylor in a bowl game sooner than A&M.

Their recruiting is weak. Please. And even when they get one or two "great" talents even they become busts or are not effective enough to carry the team.
