View Full Version : How much cash would you guys put in your wallets normally?

Let me clarify

The reason why I ask you guys this question is that a friend of mine who is an American dude told me that you American people don’t like putting cash in your wallets and you guys use credit cards only in your daily lives .is this true? If so, what if you want to buy a bottle of coke? Also credit cards only?
It’s extremely interesting for me to hear that cause Chinese like putting a lot cash in our wallets (of course it is based on his income and his wealth) and yes, we have credit cards as well but most of the time we like pay cash to the bills or something we buy., for us, credit card is just for shopping centers and some high class restaurants.

The other reason why we prefer cash to credit card is that if a gentleman had a dinner with his significant other and if he pays cash for the bills always means the man is masculine. Why??? Its because when he paid the bills, the waiter must be returned to him for the change. At that time, he could give the “tips” to the waiter or waitress in order to show to the lady that how rich he is

"cash" tips don't mean anything more than CC tips.

I rarely have any cash at all on me. I use my debit card. I canceled my CCs as per Lefty's CC thread...

I guess I can see how waving off your cash change might look more 'cool' to some people.

1 or 2 bills a week

i hate paying with a card and then looking at your statement with the date, time and location of nearly every place youve recently been

plus it defends against the cashless society

Rarely carry cash, use my bank card all the time. Not a Credit card.

I give myself a weekly cash "allowance" of $50 from my paycheck. The rest goes into the bank to pay bills or make bigger purchases. So I almost never have more than $50 in my wallet.

Don't carry much cash at all - you're lucky to find 10 - 15$ in my wallet...debit card all the way. Credit only for very large purchases.

I'll carry anywhere between $5 and $50, usually $20 or less. Most purchases made on debit card which gives me a $0.10 rebate per transaction done on the 'credit' side (even tho the money is immediately debited from the account).

Pay bills (utility, car, house, insurance, prop tax) online.

I have $50 as a birthday present in my wallet that I haven't spent yet. If it went in the bank I would surely spend it on something else. Otherwise I have like $15-20 for lunches or random things that come up.

Like others have mentioned, I'd rather use my debit card or credit card. I can keep track of things much more easily that way. That doesn't mean I always use my card though. I'll take cash out if I know exactly how much I'm going to spend, like for a movie or a night out with the girls/guys at the bar (then it'll cut me off at a certain amount).

Oh yeah. I get that too..or something like that. It's 3 cents for every debit. But Chase is taking that away come July so I have no incentive to debit anything. I think in the 2 years I had a WaMu account they gave me back like $15. It was a sweet deal.

I only use debit cards for online purchases. I don't keep too much cash on me unless there is something expensive I plan on purchasing that day. I don't use credit cards period. If I want something, I'm gonna make sure I have the cash for it in hand instead of putting off the payment until later.

I carry cash and still prefer to pay cash for just about everything- like grocery store, restaurants,... So, usually I have about $100 cash on me.

I use my credit card for online purchases or for larger purchases for which I do not want to carry that much cash always paying the balance in full each month. The best thing about using cash is you don't buy anything if you have no money on you.

10-20 on me usually. Sometimes less. I used to use debit 80% of the time and cash 20%. Now I've fallen in love with my credit card's reward system so it's more like 40% credit, 40% debit and 20% cash.

I hope you guys have cash handy other than a bank. A few thousand hidden away in the yard or under a fish tank. My dead grandfather hid $25,000 in a fake pipe in the basement. We did not know about this until his will was read to us. Pretty smart. Good place to hide cash is in the wood of a door, inside a curtain rod. I personally spilt up the cash in to two places. One inside and one outside. Put some in a jar and bury it.It's not alot of money but just in case the banking systems falls apart I will have some cash to get food and water for a few weeks. Don't put all ur marbles into one basket.

Yes, allowing a wad of mildewed paper to go from the value of a house to the value of a car in order to keep it out of the hands of the international Jewish banking conspiracy is just brilliant.

Thank you guys for telling me that.

To be honest, besides Chinese dollar,i like carrying about 50 US dollar in my wallets, because I can pay US dollars in part of China, Beijing,Shanghai,Hong Kong, Macau(there are 3 kind of currencies in China, Hong Kong dollar, Macau diollar and RMB dollar)

US$ never hurts, plus, every country is received US dollar except for South Korea and Iraq

Around $100 or so.

Keeping $25,000 in one's home seems a bit much to me, but keeping some emergency money around is a good idea, e.g., if your credit/debit card gets frozen because of fraudulent purchases.

My little cousin won my fantasy football league a year ago. He went to my bank and cashed my check for $5,500 and kept it all in his wallet. He got rolled and pistol-whipped later that night. They took his jacket, his shoes, his wedding ring, and his of course his wallet with the $5,500. It was a very expensive lesson for that dipshit to learn....
