View Full Version : Hardest Games to Beat?

What are the hardest games you've ever played? And I'm not talking a game that was cheap or broken... I just mean a legitimately hard game to finish.

Off the top of my head, I'm going with COD4 on the hardest mode, Castlevania, and Mike Tyson's Punchout.

If you play CoD 4 on Veteran like it was a Rainbow Six game it's actually not that bad to beat at all.

The only old game I can recall as being hard for me was a Star Trek game I had for the Genesis. Recent games would be Earth Defense Force on Inferno mode, CoD 2 on Veteran (Hill 402 or whatever is insane), and getting to a million points in Geometry Wars.

Idk, once I got the timing down with Tyson I used to show off for my friends and toy around with him. But for whatever reason I could never figure out Macho Man's tactics. I can't remember Sandman. I know I did beat him though. I tried playing Tyson like a month ago and he was beating the crap out of me. lol I lost the timing when he starts throwing those damn jabs.

I've probably started this game about six-thousand times, but have yet to make it all the way through. Something always inevitably comes along to remind me why I didn't like this game. Once Donatello and Leonardo go out, you're done for.

Top Gun gets hard starting around level 3. I could always beat the first 2 pretty easily.

Top Gun 2 is pretty tough though from the get go. Level 2 is a bitch because everyone shoots like 3 missles the second they see you, then you have to dodge a shitload of trees which makes no fucking sense since you are in an airplane and should just be able to fly over them.

Ninja Gaiden for the NES is pretty ridiculous. Stage 6 is pretty much impossible to finish if you take too much damage because if you die to any of the 3 bosses you get to do the whole thing again. Couple this with the fact that stage 6-2 is just retarded and you have an extremely frustrating game, even when using save states on an emulator. The brown eagle/hawk enemies are easily the most retarded thing ever placed in a video game. They do more damage than bullets, rockets, swords, bosses, everything.

Oh, and if you dont know that jump-slash does more damage than normal, you are in for a harder game.

I spent hours upon hours on stage 6-2 and 6-3. I finally figured them out, and to this day, I can still usually beat them after losing only about 4 or 5 lives, as opposed to dying 20+ times, throwing the controller at the screen, and turning the game off, having to do it all over since theres no saves or passwords.

The key to the game definitely is having the jump-slash. That thing makes the game too easy, especially bosses. If you do it enough times, you can actually kill Ryu's father without hitting that orange ball thing. Well, all it does is make him explode, but to beat the level, you still have to destroy the orange ball. But its hilarious when you can beat bosses in one hit with that thing.

I beat this stage exactly one time. I was hanging out with a friend, and had ingested the perfect mix of Dos Equis and Wendy's. He had already lamed out, and I was literally sitting and bitching about how impossible the stage was while I went through it. I completely lucked out and zoomed through the last part without dying once.

Then I got to stage 4, summarily got my ass handed to me, and never picked up the 'Toads again.

Paperboy...hard too, i could never escape the lady or whatever that chases you.

Turok 2, got to the very end and didnt finish...i forget why but i think the level became too large and complicated to run through and i got tired of running around.

and there were others, but i could go on for hours.

on that note, i wonder how fast/slow i would get through these same games today...either way i miss being a kid and having the only worry in my life be that i cant get through a specific level....:depressed miss those days

Bump.

It's 4:15 in the morning, and Ninja Gaiden has been running on my computer for approximately 26 hours. Fuck you level 6-2.

I was going to start a thread about the hardest games to beat, but upon searching found this one. And to no fucking surprise Ninja Gaiden for NES litters this thread.

Aside from that...if anyone ever played Amagon for the NES, that game is really difficult too just because you die instantly from one hit...Don't think I've gotten past level 2-1 in that game.

Edit: TMNT is just ridiculous also. I would say Super Mario Bros. 1 and 3 are tough if you want to play it straight through...but both games have such an abundance of secrets that I can't rank 'em up there with most difficult.

Yeah, I feel like most people should be naming NES games tbh.

I don't really count a certain game on the hardest difficulty being one of the hardest games to beat. I feel that a game is hard to beat because it was the game itself was difficult to beat...not because you put it on the hardest difficulty.

And, because NES games had no saves, and had tons of glitches/respawning enemies in certain games...that makes most NES games some of the hardest to beat.

Games like God of War and Metal Gear are difficult but they really don't have shit on NES games because those games had saves and didn't have respawning enemies that owned your soul.

And, Ninja Gaiden has been running for near 48 hours on my computer now...but I don't want to turn it off.

God of War on Titan mode. I couldn't even beat the first part.

I beat the first one on Titan mode and it took forever. I tried to beat GoW2 on Titan mode and couldn't get past Theseus.

And with the code its a cakewalk. You suck. I must have beaten it 15-20 times with the konami code.

You using an emulator? Can't you just use the 'save state' command and pick up where you left off?

I was using virtualnes.com. It's an online emulator, not one I actually downloaded and only certain games on that site have save states. Ninja Gaiden did not.

But I downloaded an emulator and ended up beating it using save states, I just wanted to try to beat it without them and basically gave up.

I'm playing TMNT on my Droid, and the slightly less responsive controls are make that shit so much harder. :lol

On my Incredible, it's near impossible to play any game of the like. Games with a lot of movement would be impossible to beat using Nesoid.

I may just uninstall it from my phone because there's almost no point in having it.

TNMT is LEGENDARY in its difficulty quotient.

Oooh, now I am going WAY back:

Zoop - had an IMPOSSIBLE learning curve! Fun, but so hard I just gave up after a few minutes...

I give Nesoid props, because it works much better than I expected initially, especially the onscreen controller. That said, the random split second delay from not hitting a button right/the button not responding is a killer. You end up having to glance beneath your thumbs at the controls at the same time you're playing to make sure you're gonna nail a move.

And Devil May Cry 3, Capcom fucked up the difficulty settings on it.

that's why it was re-released as DMC 3 SE with gold and yellow orbs

I'm not sure it's in the upper echelon of hardest games, but it's definitely tough. I'm actually playing this on my Nesoid as well, and surprisingly it is easily the best controlling game of all the platformers I've downloaded. I've been flying through it like it was the old days.

I haven't played any games in 8-9 years. You're right, I really wasn't a great player tbh. Never said I was just said that it was the hardest game I played. And .2 seconds later a google search lists the fucking as "the hardest game ever". Read it again, its the one on the bottom. http://pc.ign.com/articles/774/774907p2.html

Hexen is insane!

I have the official guide, and still couldn't beat it. The puzzles were just so difficult. Without cheating I never got past the 4th level.

Not only that, but even if you had cheat codes on, with god mode and unlimited ammo/magic, and even no-clipping on (walk through walls) the main boss can STILL KILL YOU! I couldn't even CHEAT to win!

The puzzles are really not that hard, just a lot of running from one place to another and then back again, and searching for that well hidden switch. Hexen is one of my favourite games, great fun, esp. in co-op mode.

It's funny how a lot of NES games were difficult simply because you could not resume progress in most games after you turn it off. I remember when I first got into emulation in the late 90s I would download every game I owned for NES and beat them with the luxury of resuming whenever I pleased.

Seriously. There's no shortage of NES/SNES games that I only learned to truly love once I got save-state abilities.

IIRC Sunset Riders - was damn near impossible. The last boss was so fast and had so much ammo that even in team mode, you could never beat it.

The first Megaman was also pretty tough, mainly because there was no passwords...

And because of the damn boss after you beat the 6 robots...If it weren't for the "pause" cheat I'm not sure I ever would have beat that boss...tough game but the ones I mentioned earlier were still tougher but this one should be mentioned...

God of War 3 or really any game that requires you to be patient, I am REALLY REALLY REALLY impatient when it comes to video games. I just rush the shit outta every game trying to beat it as fast as I can which causes me to die a shit load of times.

Yeah, the game itself isn't too hard. It's when you get to the bosses is where it got tough.

A Boy and his Blob was sorta hard, and so was Friday the 13th, but I never really got into either of them so I didn't mention them.
