View Full Version : Can we all now agree that Kobe Bryant is now second to MJ as far as the Finals go?

Greatest clutch player in the game right now and fuck you if you don't agree. Give the man 35 shots and he will GUARANTEE a 40 point performance game in and out even if he has to get 15 free throws to get there. Kobe now has FOUR true rings and has proven time and time again at how clutch he is when it counts :lobt::hat

LMAO son ... such truth there. gotta love how the media won't DARE mention his poor shooting percentage numbers. its all about the points! .... 11 of 31 shooting last night with 32 points. good thing they helped him at the line with 8 FREEBIE free throws to help inflate his points.

Not sure there were some great players in the past, but I admit kobe is up there. Life is much easier for him how with Gasol. They went from an 8th seed to the best team over night, almost as dramatic as Boston's turnaround.

I thought Kobe's shooting percentages were awful, but without him attacking the Magic and setting up his teammates for wide open shots they wouldn't be in a position to knock those down.

Only problem was that he wasn't attacking that much. If he had been attacking more (like has been his story for the past 4-5 years), they wouldn't have went to OT and probably would have won pretty easily. But he settles for bad jumpers way too much. The only complaint i have with kobe is he has terrible shot selection issues.

assuming the lakers do win and kobe gets finals mvp, why would that make him second to MJ?

only looking at this generation, shaq and duncan accomplished more "as far as the Finals go"

only looking at the lakers, mikan, west, wilt, kareem, magic and shaq accomplished more "as far as the Finals go" (and you could even argue for baylor since the OP is basically just talking about scoring)

If the Lakers keep Odom + Ariza this summer, you can pen in Kobe's #5 and pencil in #6.

Still lacking behind MJ if Kobe stops at just 6 rings but better than most.

KG and Pierce might disagree.

Seriously, though. How do you feel about the C's next year as currently assembled?

I feel this year and last were the only 2 years the Celtics had with this KG/PP/Allen core. I think it only gets worse from here on out.

How can we gloss Kobe's "Finals performances" when this is the third straight finals he has play sub-par?

I dont remember Jordan's teammates needing to bail him out time and time again.

And saying that if you give a guy 35 shots he will score 40 points isnt a compliment. In fact, its pretty average. Its actually tougher finding a player with ego to shoot the ball 35 times in a game.

E20
06-12-2009, 01:51 PM
No I don't really agree with this statement. There are other players that have done more in the finals than Kobe has (Notably Duncan and Shaq).

Unless if you're talking about players who only play the SG position, then I don't really know.

They nearly took Orlando out, while giving Scalabrine 20 minutes per game. Would you have put money on them to even get past the first round with KG and Powe out?

As currently assembled? No, I'd like to see some tweaks. We could lose Tony Allen and Mikki Moore, and pick up another big and another wing player. If anything, we need some bigs that aren't complete defensive liabilities, so we are able to foul.

I wouldn't mind keeping Big Baby, as he and Rondo made great strides this postseason. I expect both to progress next year.

I think Celts have at least one more year in them. Get a young winger who can slash to take some minutes off PP in the regular season, and get a big to back up Perkins, and we're right there in the mix.

That's a pretty good analysis. I thought Big Baby really stepped it upl. Mikki Moore was a bad gamble and Tony Allen has just been useless and bad PR. I also think Ray Allen was their best and worst player this year because he was so damn inconsistent.

Paul Pierce is getting too fat...appears that he's slacking because he's not at the top of his game this year.

The Celtics no doubt will be one of the top in the conference next year, I just don't know if they have enough to win it all again.

Don't you remember - it was the year that the league felt sorry for the mavs futility and almost gave it to them but at the last minute decided that the Heat deserved it more.
