20-Year-Old Accused Of Tying Up Girlfriend's Children
LAS VEGAS -- A Las Vegas man tied up and abandoned his girlfriend's two children so he could watch the NBA Finals at a nearby bar, police said.
The police report released to FOX5 details the rescue of the two boys, ages 1 and 2, and the arrest of 20-year-old suspect Jonathan Weaver.
He was arrested at the Augusta Apartments Tuesday night after police and firefighters found the children tied up in a garage with cloth stuffed in their mouths and rope tied around their necks.
Weaver’s girlfriend, Amy Beltran, said she often left the boys, Adrian and Darian, in his custody while she attended college at night. According to police, the couple had fought Tuesday night because Weaver wanted to go to a Las Vegas 51’s minor league baseball game.
After dropping Beltran off, Weaver told police he “could not believe what he was about to do” when he thought about tying up the children while they were both in car seats.
The police report said that Weaver intended to leave the boys in the garage and he tied their hands because “he did not want Adrian or Darian to grab any of the tools” nearby.
Police said Weaver didn’t think leaving the children was a big deal “because they have had campouts inside” the garage.
Weaver told police he went to a nearby PT’s Pub that let him watch the NBA Finals inside, despite the fact that he is younger than 21-years-old. He later returned home to find police waiting for him.
Weaver is charged with kidnapping, child abuse and attempted murder.
Beltran, who is pregnant with Weaver’s child, is not charged in the case.
