His numbers once again went down in the playoffs, but got bailed out by hitting some big shots. He still doesnt post up enough, and takes dumb shots like a fade away 3. He might be worth 8 million a year, but he is looking for 10-11.

Hedo will opt out of his contract and become a free agent and will want at least $10 million a season.

Several general managers and agents in the NBA believe that the Portland Trail Blazers — a rising club like the Magic — might offer the stiffest competition to sign Turkoglu. The Detroit Pistons, Toronto Raptors and Atlanta Hawks also have salary-cap room to put Turkoglu in play.

Turkoglu, 30, who has one year left at $7.3 million on his six-year, $36 million contract, is believed to be asking for at least $10 million a season.http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/orl-sportsmagic-16061609jun16,0,4935942.story

Sources say Toronto is preparing an offer of five years and $60 million for Hedo Turkoglu.

The Blazers are lining up a $50 million offer over the same length.

Hedo Turkoglu has reached an agreement in principle to join the Portland Trail Blazers, according to sources.Splitter and a first would make sense to get Batum ... but Pritchard isn't going to trade him to San Antonio for any price.

I don't want Batum for that price. Splitter could be a potential 7 foot starting center, plus a first round pick. No thank you. I would consider Anthony Randolph from Golden state, but still no.

uhhh if GS would trade Randolph for Splitter and a first you take that trade in a heartbeat.

Blazers have Roy, Rudy, Webster, Hedo, Outlaw and Batum to play SG/SF. Even if Outlaw will play some PF and Roy can play some PG, that's too much.
Rudy isn't happy and I'm quite sure other will soon join him.

Blazers need to do some trade. I don't see them doing a trade directly with Spurs but they could end up getting an interesting part in a three way trade.
A third team could be more interested in a future first than in Batum.

And I wouldn't give up both Splitter and a first for Batum.

He missed the whole last year because of a stress fracture (he comes back too quickly like Manu).
If he is healthy again, he is a good young player. He isn't a good defender but he is a great shooter.

Though some reports indicated the deal was done, Turkoglu's agent, Lon Babby, cautioned that details were still being finalized Friday. But a high-level coaching source with direct knowledge of the situation said those details were minor and that Turkoglu, a 30-year-old forward who is one of the most versatile players in the game, will be joining the Blazers.

Portland's main competition for Turkoglu, the Toronto Raptors, are indicating that they've decided to back away from a bidding war and focus on re-signing their own free agents, Shawn Marion and Carlos Delfino. Both Marion and Delfino are close to agreements with Toronto, a high-ranking source with knowledge of those discussions said. Delfino is closer than Marion, the person said, due to ongoing disagreement about his value...

According to ESPN's Henry Abbott, swingman Hedo Turkoglu has reached an agreement in principle to join the Portland Trailblazers.
The arrival of Turkoglu will put the Blazers on a small list of teams that will be picked to compete with the Lakers for the Western Conference title. His versatility combined with the talent surrounding him on the roster will make him a multi-category threat once again.

You think he'll be happy here with even less minutes and shots off the bench? We're jammed at the wing positions right now. Even if we pulled off a trade for him, I doubt he'd get a bigger role than his previous one on the Blazers.

I don't see any reason not to start Manu. He's getting older and with his injury woes, he needs to start and stay warm. If he doesn't start for Pop's reasonings, Mason will. RJ will be starting as well. Therefore, Rudy would always come off the bench. He would never have a chance to start. If Manu is on the bench, he's the second wing off the bench for RJ. With RJ getting tons of $ as well as keeping Manu's health in mind, you can bet he'll be playing a shitton of minutes as well. I don't see how Rudy's wants fit within our team.

First, like Houston with Ariza, Portland will regret this move, especially if they give him close to the 50 million he wanted. They might get one to two good years out of him.

Second, there is no way in hell Portland gives up Fernandez to anyone in the Western Conference without getting back a major piece. The Spurs didn't trade Manu in 2003 despite the fact that we were loaded at the two and three spots. My guess is that it will take a high draft pick or a multiple player deal to get them to trade Fernandez, he is too good of a basketball player. Much better than a few million dollar salary dump that a Finley, Mason, or Bonner could provide.

Every free agency move can be related to the Spurs. For example, the Blazers signing Turk may open up some of their other players being available.

So please stop trying to be the forum police in every thread. I'll move/lock threads that should be moderated.

Thanks.

Good move by the Blazers. Definitely an upgrade for them at the small forward spot. Let's see if they can get a quality point guard for some combo of the mediocre small forwards/guards on that roster.

Wouldn't that be excellent. In your opinion, if the Spurs are to make another trade, do you think it will happen before the season, or do you think it will be closer to the trade deadline? Or both?

I guess it will depend on what the young players will show in SL.
If Blair/Mahinmi/Gist are a disaster, Spurs will likely try to put a trade for a good big this summer.
If none all the wings in the SL shows something interesting, Spurs could try to get their prospect wing on the trade market.

Trades also depends on what other teams offer. If there is a great opportunity (like a Batum on the cheap), Spurs must take it and be opportunist.

The only bad thing about Turk canceling out on his deal with Portland means that Portland is back in the FA game again. Hopefully, they aren't interested in anyone the Spurs are interested in. I wouldn't mind them throwing money at Odom though so that he doesn't return to the Lakers. I don't think it's likely though.

Source: Turkoglu changes mind on Blazers
By Adrian Wojnarowski, Yahoo! Sports
2 hours, 12 minutes ago

Free agent Hedo Turkoglu(notes) has backed out of his commitment to the Portland Trail Blazers and plans to sign with the Toronto Raptors, a source close to the talks told Yahoo! Sports on Friday night.

Turkoglu had agreed on a five-year, $50 million deal with the Blazers, but changed his mind and could be headed for a five-year, $56 million deal with the Raptors. Toronto would have to renounce three free agents – Shawn Marion(notes), Carlos Delfino(notes) and Anthony Parker(notes) – to create the cap space for Turkoglu.

Apparently, the Blazers are already busy exploring other free-agent options for the $9 million in salary-cap space.

A source says Turkoglu’s wife wanted badly to live in Toronto, a far more European-style city, and that’s where it appears the Turkish native is headed. The Raptors have embraced the Euro game under GM Bryan Colangelo, building a roster that includes Euro talents Jose Calderon(notes) and Andrea Bargnani(notes).

Five years ago, Turkoglu was close to signing with the Phoenix Suns that Colangelo was running, but changed his mind and went to the Orlando Magic.

After opting out of his contract last week in Orlando, he became one of the hottest free agents on the market. Turkoglu, 30, averaged 16.8 points and 5.3 rebounds last season for the Magic.

That trade was terrible and their team won't be competing at the same level they did during this year's playoff run. They'll still make the playoffs, but they traded away cheap youth for a big contract and let two good pieces walk with no contingency plan.
