Sons this is great news. Would he play LB in a 4-3? I hope so.

I doubt he plays SAM. I am more than sure he will play DE after thinking about it.

I don't know if he can play LB in a 4-3. He's more of a pass rusher, so they might move him back to DE. Time will tell.

The Raiders have picked up a great guy. Good luck to him!

Very good pickup for the Raiders. They're getting themselves a nice team. If Russell figures things out, they could be wild card contenders.

I wont jump the gun this season. I thought they could do that last season. It's funny though. Before the NFL Draft, people were saying the Raiders winning the AFC West wouldn't be that big a shocker. After the Draft, people expect them to go 4-12.

At this point in his career he's going to be a good situational pass rusher from the DE position for the raiders. If healthy he could get 5 to 7 sacks this season in spot minutes.

Hard to say what to do with him. Especially since the Raiders already have Burgess and Trevor Scott. I wonder if they are really planning on trading Burgess (which now might be the best time while he has at least some value). I wish he could play LB in the 4-3, that would give them a core of Howard, Morrison, and Ellis... definitely one of the top LB cores in the league. But I doubt it.

I disagree. I don't think Ellis sucks. He's been very productive, even last year with limited amounts of playing time. He had 8 sacks last year, and 12.5 sacks in 2007. He can be productive in situational possessions. Coming in on known passing downs will help, and he can get 6 or 7 sacks.

I was hoping he ended up on a superbowl contender

Dumb for the Cardinals who need a 3-4 hybrid DE/OLB since they're making the switch.

Ellis isn't a 4-3 linebacker, he just isn't quick enough to handle the coverage responsibilities. He was a stretch as a 3-4 OLB but was able to do well enough even though a bit more quickness at the position would be preferred. In a 4-3 scheme he's a DE and only a DE.

Any team in the Raiders division has a playoff shot. Dallas has no shot at making the playoffs.

this past season?

I was acting sarcastic. He's on the Raiders, so what? Dallas didn't make the playoffs either.

I'm pretty sure the Cowboys beat the Eagles 44-6 at the end of the year for playoff spot.

You sure they didn't get the playoff berth after beating the Browns in week 1? I swear the clinched that day.

He didn't "bitch and whine" his way out of Dallas. Yes he complained about his playing time and his contract situation, but most guys in the NFL do. That's not the reason he was released. There's two sides to football, the playing side and the business side. On the business side Greg did "bitch and whine." However, on the playing side he produced and was a good teammate. He helped tutor and mentor Anthony Spencer, the guy who was brought in to take Greg's spot. The reason he was released was: 1. Age. The Cowboys have been on a mission this off-season to get younger. They released TO. They didn't re-sign Keith Davis. They traded Anthony Henry. It's part of the youth movement. 2. It's time to see what Spencer can do. He was drafted to inherit Greg's spot, and now is the time to do it. Time to see if Spencer can produce. He wasn't going to do that while having to split time with Greg. Greg can still produce, and we will see it happen with the Raiders.
