The non-apology apology (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-apology_apology) is the most generous rhetorical dodge our society still grants public figures, in spite of it's robotic disingenuousness - you just copy/paste the standard form into a sheet of paper and read aloud on TV or send out as a press release. This is apparently just too complicated a process for this douchebag.

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/2009/06/14/2009-06-14_pol_gorilla_is_related_to_first_lady.html

A prominent South Carolina Republican killed his Facebook page Sunday after being caught likening the First Lady to an escaped gorilla.

Commenting on a report posted to Facebook about a gorilla escape at a zoo in Columbia, S.C., Friday, longtime GOP activist Rusty DePass wrote, "I'm sure it's just one of Michelle's ancestors - probably harmless."

Busted by South Carolina political blogger Will Folks on his FITNEWS blog, DePass told WIS-TV in Columbia, "I am as sorry as I can be if I offended anyone. The comment was clearly in jest."

Then he added, "The comment was hers, not mine," claiming Michelle Obama made a recent remark about humans descending from apes. The Daily News could find no such comment.

Fuck what he meant.

He said MO was descended from (related to) a live, contemporary gorilla. iow, a gorilla as the parent of MO. No evolution involved.

blacks as monkeys/jungle bunnies is a well-known, ancient insult.

All the Aryan bubbas/Christian supremacists he was pandering to know EXACTLY what he meant.

When I gave her a second chance to address the controversial nature of the email, she again repeated that she only felt bad about sending it to the wrong list of people.

“I went on the wrong email and I inadvertently hit the wrong button,” Goforth told NIT. “I’m very sick about it, and it’s one of those things I can’t change or take back.”

NEW YORK (CNN) – Despite an apology Monday night from David Letterman, a protest rally outside of Letterman's Ed Sullivan Theater in New York will still go on as planned Tuesday, according to its organizer.
Political documentarian and conservative radio talk show host, John Ziegler, tells CNN that the point of the rally is to, "Raise awareness and get some sort of accountability."
He says that Letterman's apology, "Would have been fine had it come six days ago. This apology came seven days after the fact and his first apology was completely self serving." He added, "We think our voices should still be heard."
The protest is scheduled to take place as Letterman begins taping Tuesday's program. The group is angry over a joke the talk show host told related to the family of Sarah Palin.
Ziegler could not confirm how many of the more than 2,000 people he originally indicated would be attending had canceled. The rally's page on Facebook has approximately 200 confirmed guests. 1,383 have declined the invitation since the Letterman apology.
A significant number of the people who are attending list their residence as out of state.
Ziegler, who produced "Media Malpractice: How Obama Got Elected and Palin was Targeted" is also promoting his upcoming film, "Blocking the Path to 9/11."

Umm for a long while now. It's just that when it was used 30 years ago it wasn't seen as wrong because a lot more people looked down at blacks than now.

It's just a way to get their message out. Obama did such a good job of utilizing it that everybody is jumping on board. During the campaign I heard Beck say that Twitter was useless, that the company couldn't make any money, that it's going nowhere, and that this is how they're gonna keep track of all of us... then it gets huge, everybody is using it... and what do you know... he even has a twitter now.

I think Senator Grissley had the best twitter so far.

If only he could work in Obama's grandmother somehow. Then he'd be cooking with fire. He's too busy having sex with her as a pro athlete.

I brought up his mother as an example of ANY FUCKING FAMILY MEMBER.Yes, you did. That was my point. That was why other posters seized on it: because you brought it up.

It is a little funny that you have demanded an explanation for others' logical and straightforward replies to you. When you got the explanation, you tried to claim there was some subtler, abstract point that we all missed.

What was that point, BTW? That comedians shouldn't be allowed to be tacky? That they should answer to tact and *political correctness*?

Not that it's that important, but mother <> grandmother.

As to your other points, sure, all things are fair game, but the comedian must be willing to take the heat if he can dish it out.

Anyone remember why Bill Maher's show, Politically Incorrect, was taken off ABC?

How so?

Anyone remember why Bill Maher's show, Politically Incorrect, was taken off ABC?Because he suggested that hijacking airliners and crashing them into buildings might require a modicum of physical courage?

BTW, Darrin, was Maher wrong about that?

I don't disagree, but that's not all he said.

"We have been the cowards, lobbing cruise missiles from 2,000 miles away. That's cowardly. Staying in the airplane when it hits the building, say what you want about it, it's not cowardly"

According to you, it is.

This is where all this grandmother nonsense came up.

Ok, you have some hilarious jokes about Obama's mom getting knocked up as a teenager you'd like to share with us? I'm sure it would get a chuckle, because Obama's grandmother was a politician who traded on her Christian-Conservative, salt-of-the-earth, old-fashioned family values image, right?

I won't address this again. It's getting old.

Or funny.

We tried.

How did you get Obama's mom buy your story about playing pro ball?

Another unfortunate part of American politics. Never mind actually discussing the "issues" (of course, what passes for a public discussion of the issues in the US consists of uninformed mayonnaise eaters confirming their ignorance) and critiquing the arguments you disagree with. Nay, we must thoroughly demonize political opponents beyond all recognition.

Character assassination and family member attacks of presidents are nothing new. Those go back to the start of the Republic. If someone enters the arena, they should be prepared for that sort of thing. Still, that's a rather lousy justification.

"We have been the cowards, lobbing cruise missiles from 2,000 miles away. That's cowardly. Staying in the airplane when it hits the building, say what you want about it, it's not cowardly"And then Maher's network showed it's pussillanimity by yielding to the hysterical herd and firing Maher for his controversial (but not patently false) observation, rather than defending Maher and the uber-American tradition of free expression.

Your point?

He didn't threaten anything, if anything he responded to CHumps logic that bristol deserves to be humiliated because she got knocked up.

Darrin implied the same thing Obama implied, and that's that its not good to do such thing and attacking single mothers for political benefit is tackless.

Why can't you understand something simple like that, rather than sink into the whole red vs blue mud fight?

Carter's brother was never made fun of. Clinton's brother was never made fun of. Bush's daughters were never made fun of.

It's only natural to assume that Palin's daughter should never be made fun of.

Bullshit, Bristol is putting herself in the spotlight as well

Really "if girls realized the consequences of sex nobody would be having it." You fucking knew the consequences of sex and it didn't stop you from opening your legs

And Bush's daughters were made fun of when they kept getting caught in bars in Austin. and Cintons daughter was ugly, so nobody made fun of her because thats akin to beating up a retard.

Agree that Darrin didn't *threaten* anything (attempted humorous overreading on my part), disagree with your own overreading of CD. He didn't argue that BP *deserved* anything IMO, just that the joke on her had a logical basis.
