This win was on the order of magnitude of the US beating the USSR in hockey. Georgetown was THAT good. Their fatal flaw, like many John Thompson teams (including the 88 Olympic squad), was the lack of quality outside shooters. They created most of their points with their magnificent press, but Nova wasn't having any of it. They played excellent, controlled offense, and smothering defense.

Villianova was an EIGHT seed, folks. That's like UT, Pacific, Minnesota, or Stanford winning the whole thing this season. They _barely_ beat a Dayton team many picked to dust them in the first round, then top seeded Michigan, then a tough Maryland team. UNC was the #2 seed in the Southeast region and Villanova's opponent in the regional final. After rallying to beat the Heels, they played and beat another top seed, Memphis State, before playing their third #1 seed in the mighty Hoyas.

Nova shot 90% in the second half and 79% for the game, and still only won by two points. That should tell you how good Georgetown was. The Sweet 16 Nova team from this year was a 5.

The HBO special is on tonight at 7 if anyone is interested.
