SAN DIEGO (AP)—LeBron James(notes) is moving his King’s Academy summer basketball camp from his hometown of Akron, Ohio, to the campus of UC San Diego.
The NBA MVP and star of the Cleveland Cavaliers has scheduled his camp, for boys and girls between 8 and 18, for July 24-28.
Moving the King’s Academy gives kids in another part of the country the chance to experience it, camp director Damon Haley said Monday.
“He’s a guy who’s a family guy, and he’s a guy who needs a vacation in the offseason, so that’s where San Diego came into the realm of possibility,” said Haley, who also mentioned the number of courts at UCSD.
The cost is $650 for overnight campers and $510 for day campers.

I have no opinion about the man as a person, but he is a tremendoulsy talented althete. I have no idea about any charities hie is involved with.
It is sad, however, that he is charging for this. He could easily donate cash to a charitable foundation, even get donations from others, pay the staff, and tax write off his contributions. One would think he could donate his time and get other athletes to participate. Maybe have drawings at schools or as a reward for kids who are active in their communities or get good grades or? But, I suppose greed is good. This way the camp pays for his vacation in San Diego, airfare, lodging, meals, etc. So he gets a free vacation.
