I love the trade, but damn, I'm going to miss Bruce :depressed

Thank you for your dedication, professionalism, craftiness and badassness

I like to think of the 2007 playoffs as Bruce's best performance:

- he had to defend Steve Nash, Hill, Chris Paul, Peja Stojakovic, Deron Williams, Kirilenko and LBJ, and did a fantastic job

- he also made a bunch of clutch shots

Props to the last guy who will ever wear #12 for the Spurs. :toast

I think Bruce will be back next season. Milwaukee doesn't want an over-the-hill SF, they want salary cap space.

We want our over-the-hill SF, dammit. :elephant

Not to be a nitpicker, but the Spurs did not face Paul and Peja in the 2007 playoffs. They faced Denver, Phoenix, Utah, and Cleveland. They faced the Hornets in 2008, the year the Spurs lost to the Lakers in the WCFs. Bowen did spend time guarding Carmelo and Iverson however.

Never the less whoever he guards in the playoffs their PPG from the regular season suddenly drops. I remember them showing the averages of everyone he guarded one time during the playoffs and it was crazy

This is actually the best thing that can happen for Bruce..

we get a very good offensive player that will make up for Bowen's lack of offense, allowing him to play a bigger role than last season, at least IMO..

we shouldn't have to worry about our offense with TP, Manu, RJ and Timmy on the team..now back to focusing on the D..

The Bucks expect to save $6.35 million next season after releasing Bowen (only $2 million guaranteed) and Oberto (only $1.9 million guaranteed), a source told ESPN.com.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Fab come back as well. The Spurs still need bodies at PF/C and Fab could probably be had for league min.

Bruce was a huge part of the 03, 05 and 07 championships and I wish him well. He's also becoming an active part of the business community hear in SA, so he'll be back here in time.

Love to Fab and Kurt! You guys always gave it your all.

I hope we get to see him back. It was the general consensus of this board that Bowen should have been playing more this past postseason...if he's not back, he will most definitely be missed.

The Bucks will almost certainly cut him, since this was a financial deal from their end. I would be very surprised if he isn't back in a month.

bruce bowen, my favorite spur, thank you.

i cant recall another perimeter defensive player (been watching since 93) where their averages (and fg%) fell as much as did as when bruce bowen was guarding them. maybe scottie pippen?

my personal favorite moments of bruce came in the 2005 drive to the championship. it was so fun to watch ray and bruce go at it in the 2nd round. i still remember when collison tried setting a screen for ray and bruce swam right through it, and ray attempted what would have been the winning shot but bruce defended it. you see bruce telling something to ray, then ray turns around and is clearly lipping "f*** you"

then in the conference finals, he holds joe johnson and shawn marion way below their averages

the back and forth between bruce and rip hamilton in the nba finals was classic, and one that i'll never forget. the 2005 nba finals was played between two great teams and coaches and is a model for how it ought to be every season

we all hope your coming back bruce!!!

I really hope he comes back like everyone else, but even if he doesn't the trade was worth it. It's just sad to see such a great person leaving the team, let alone one that is such a great competitor.

A little off topic: I still think the reason Bowen was traded (and lost minutes last season) had a lot to do with frustrations caused by the way the refs shackled Bowen from playing defense.

Thanks Bruce, not only for being an integral part of 3 rings, and proving that a mixture of hard work and persistence can take you all the way to the top (even if your ability is limited), but also for being such a sweet guy when I met you in 2007. Here's to you, pal.

I already miss Bruce. One of my favorite Spurs of all time. Too bad the whining of Mark Cuban and others got the league to change the rules to stop guys like Bruce from playing his brand of defense. It's not his fault the rules were changed. He's still a defensive whiz....just not as able to do it with his hands tied by the NBA these days, so I guess it was time to replace him with a guy who has more offensive firepower.
