call me a fag, but i actually did shed a tear when Bruce says he gonna miss playing with Manu and Tony. I really hope he does come back. He should play his last game as a Spur and not with another team.

My favorite spurs player ...

I don't know what to say. It will be damn more dificult to get his #12 jersey now :(

Easily one of the classiest guys going around. Not just in ball, but in any profession.

I fully expect, and hope, to see him back.

If he doesn't come back, my guess is he's retiring. He brought up something that I was thinking about earlier today. He won't take his family away from San Antonio. And he won't want to be away from his boys.

So I think for Bruce Bowen, it's either play for the Spurs, or don't play.

:depressed

If this is goodbye, at least Bowen went out like a warrior. Played very well in the playoffs and has a Spurs Nation begging to have him back. Very few players are able to leave the game with their head held high. Bowen would join those ranks.

But hopefully he comes back :)

This guys is a legend...

If he gets cut and returns to win a championship he is a LEGEND!

I wouldn't mind Bowen coming back to the Spurs. Loved his defensive tenacity. He will be hard to replace on the defensive side of the court.

Bowen is the only old guy that the Spurs should keep. All the other old guys need to leave.

Itb would be unfortunate for Bowen to retire. He still have 2 years left playing and making impact.

I really hope he comes back. He should retire a Spurs player. He deserves it.

Such a class guy, he needs to come back. Good guys wear black.
Who will Elliott pick on during the broadcast without him? :lol

He also makes great HEB commercials. "Touch my glasses again and I'll make you into a point guard."

Damnit! That is exactly what I was going to say. I could see him coming back as a spokesperson or even doing commentary like Sean. Bruce would be awesome on the mic.

They could bring him back for a Vaughn type of role. He's a good lockerroom presence and is good insurance incase injuries plague us.

He'll be back. Everyone involved just needs to put on the "it's sad to part ways" act so that nothing looks pre-arranged. RC did his part, now Bruce is doing his.

If it did sound like Bruce would be back the NBA would start asking questions.

Hard for me to say.

I hope Bruce returns, but that's a lot of meaningful words said for the sake of being a ruse.

And last year did seem a travesty the way Bruce was phased out.

bigdog
06-24-2009, 10:54 AM
I think it's a no-brainer for Milwaukee to buy him out, then I think Bruce is either going to come back to the Spurs, or retire. He made it very clear that San Antonio is his home, with the business him and his wife started, and he doesn't plan on leaving anytime soon. So, with that being said, I think Bruce will end up back in San Antonio.

HarlemHeat37
06-24-2009, 11:11 AM
I still think he'll be back, but I agree that it's Spurs or retirement..it makes a lot of sense for us to bring him back though, so I'll stick with that..

Yuixafun

Cry when Duncan retires, not when this 40-year-old role player gets shipped out.

I mean you can make all the asinine comments you want, but to distill Bruce Bowen's contributions over the past several years like that makes you just sound ignorant.

There’s no chance Bowen returns to the Spurs if the Bucks buy him out as well. His relationship with Gregg Popovich deteriorated with his dwindling role a year ago, and that partnership is over.

Please. Woj has been on point for the past couple of years. Had the SA/Milw deal posted more than an hour before ESPN. Yahoo has been breaking everything lately. And you already know he'd probably ran this by Ludden.

I see no reason to doubt him. Don't shoot the messenger for the message.

I don't believe it. Bruce made it obvious in the video that it's San Antonio or done.

The other part

Oberto, who was traded to the Detroit Pistons in a three-way deal with the Milwaukee Bucks and will be bought out by the Pistons in a salary-cap move, will likely return to San Antonio as a free agent. …

I think that's probably projection on his part. Obviously Bowen wasn't thrilled with his playing time last year. But I don't think for a second that his relationship has deteriorated with Pop or the Spurs.

I imagine he'll be associated with the Spurs in some way in this upcoming year.

The other part

I think they'll look at bringing Oberto back at the minimum, after they look at a lot of other bigs. But who knows, Oberto might retire too.

Brazil

Apparently Oberto is more likely to come back than Bruce unfortunately. I'm a big Bruce fan but all in all bringing back Oberto makes more sense than Bruce right now as we only have 3 bigs available and when I say big... speaking about matt you see what I mean

Think of it this way, Bruce may be part of bringing another championship to SA Spurs because of this trade.

And he'll be back, living here with his great family, being a good citizen like so many other Spurs who've retired here, making HEB commercials and either as a coach or a broadcaster.

So this isn't goodbye, it's just Vaya Con Dios and Hasta La Vista.

Bruce is a complete class act! Can't wait to see his jersey in the rafters. (Okay, I can wait a year or two if he's playing for the Spurs!)

Any serious basketball team will miss a player that won a playoff game by blocking a shot, after scoring ZERO points in that game.

When I had to indicate an example to follow to my kids,
I pointed to Bruce Bowen.

Me excluded, of course.

Who else in the league is as gracious, classy, and positive as Bruce Bowen? He is like David Robinson in that regard.

BB will always ge one of my favorite Spurs. Total class act. Total professional - even if Ray Allen and Vince Carter feel differently. :lol

I expected nothing less from him than this type of post-trade commentary.

I'm gonna miss him. I really hate he never won DPOY. However, his jersey WILL be in the rafters in a couple of years.

Cheers to you Bruce! :toast

When I come into town, I'm coming to your SPA. :lol

Apparently Oberto would come back, I think the chances to see again Bruce with a spurs jersey are thin.

I agree with so many other comments:
-it is a business move (Spurs front office is the best in NBA, IMHO)
-Bruce has so much class!!!
-He makes a great locker room presence
-He and Sean would be AWESOME on the mic - but someone else would have to throw towels on them both.
-Bruce is a player we tell our kids to watch ( I bet he has used his eyelashes to defend- everything but the kitchen sink)
-WE WILL MISS BRUCE BOWEN!!!

My favorite two memories of Bruce:
Years ago he called Kobe "Toby" in a post-game interview.
How he walks into the other teams "huddles", especially at the free throw line.

The guy is just a unique and awesome individual -
GOD BLESS YA,BRUCE!!
