Why would you want to live in Zurich? Isn't it by far the most expensive city in the world? I have a friend who told me it cost him like $50-$60 for a shitty cafeteria lunch when he had to go there on business.

I was born in Seoul and lived there for about ten years since I was born as a military brat but that place has been unmatched from the several cities I've lived in the US although San Antonio has been the largest one I've lived in.

Legalized prostitutes, breathtaking scenery, awe-inspiring city architecture, and overally big city feel of Seoul was a great experience. I was born a city rat.

While Zurich can be expensive (I know I'm there a few times every month), the really expensive part is really only in the center. You can have lunch for more or less the same kind of money as Munich or Frankfurt and in many ways it's like Paris, it's only expensive for tourists.
Except if money is not an issue. Never stay at the downtown hotels!!! They're nice, but $$$. At the same time Tuesday I slept in a nice new modern hotel 5 min. by train from the airport and 10 minutes by tram from the city center for 58€/night, which by European standards is a steal. For 60€/night in Paris you seriously have to worry about cockroaches or the neighborhood - probably both. In London you'd probably be an hour travel away from the center.

At the same time the quality of life in Zurich is off the charts. Things like cleanliness, safety and lack of pollution are still true. While being a city on all the major concert tours (or at least close by). Excellent geographical position with good connections to anywhere in the world. World class health institution all around. Excellent schools. Low crime rate.

As I said I do a lot of business in Zurich and have a few personal friends there - and while it is not the cheapest city (OK it's in the top half), I feel you get a lot for your bucks.

BTW Munich is a pretty nice city to live in too! (and cheaper than Zurich).

Best places:

1. Eagle Pass, TX -- every time I go to Eagle Pass, I am impressed by the cleanliness of the city, the large numbers of educated, professional people, and the public infrastrcture, Teutonic in its efficiency. Eagle Pass is really poised to continue as one of America's economic and cultural shooting stars.

2. Andrews, TX -- few places in America can compete with the breathtaking scenery of Andrews. Verdant forests serve as the opening act to breathtaking mountains in the distance. Everyone you meet is so friendly, vibrant, and alive --- Andrews has a bright future.

3. Lagos, Nigeria -- the Paris of Africa. Nuff said.

4. Camden, NJ -- the tech hub of the northeast. Glistening new office towers portend the boundless optimism found in this potent economic engine. Also a great place for families.

5. East St. Louis, IL -- one of America's architectural treasures. Row after row of pristinely kept-up turn-of-the-century homes. A bustling boutique downtown lined with trees. People are about the friendliest I've ever encountered.

Is that last one a joke, or have I slipped into Bizarro world? The East StL I remember was a burn out abandoned husk in the same league as Watts. My dad always took the two lane highway from our Illinois town to StL, but he made sure that before he got to East StL, we were on the damn freeway and driving over it and not through it. Granted, that was 40 years ago, but I don't see Watts or Detroit making this kind of comeback, and they all burned/rioted about the same time.

In reality, East St. Louis lies in ruins. The downtown buildings are skeletons, their facades collapsed, with trees going out of the roofs. Abandoned factories have rusted in place for half a century. The first thing a black person in East St. Louis does when they find a job is move out of there, up over the bluffs. Any outsider who doesn't want to die knows to be out of there before 4 PM. During mid-day you won't get killed because nobody is awake, but the only thing to do is gawk at what looks like a war zone.

I'm just curious why only that one city caught your attention. Did you really think Lagos was the Paris of Africa?

I've enjoyed my time thus far in Redondo Beach and the surrounding beach areas of LA. I got reminded just how beautiful the weather and scenery was here when my my family from Texas came to visit recently and couldn't stop raving about it...saying my wife and I live in a vacation home (six blocks to the pier/beach).

It's definitely more expensive to live out here and the people aren't as nice in general (like they're too busy with their own lives to inconvenience themselves with you)...but as for the year-round weather and scenery, it's hard to beat.

I'd love to live in Fresno. You're like 40 miles from three of the most spectacular parks in the world.

.. and I'd drive the Kings Canyon scenic byway at least once a month if I lived out there...

Currently, London England.
Istanbul, Turkey is a close second.

I want to visit Bled, Slovenia and some other places in Europe and when I do I might have a new favorite.

Living only 30 mins away from Bled. Not the most beautiful City but a lot of fun especially the casino is great.

For best city I'd take Florence as well, beautiful city, exciting nightlife and many hot tourist chicks.

Close second is Dublin... would be first if there wouldn't be that stupid drive on the left side rule.

a friend of mine has an urban study degree, who just came back from SA and told me that SA has a pretty impressive urban planning. they are on a right track.

I lived in Germany for about a year and a half right after i graduated highschool. It is one of the cleanest countries i have been in, at least the southwest area is. Beautiful landscapes, awesome roads, quaint cities and villages. It is a country i loved to drive in...just so much to see.I lived in the Stuttgart area myself for six years. If their politics and tax structure was different, I might consider moving there myself.

Oh wait... We are heading for socialism here. Maybe Germany would be a good place to relocate...

Beautiful scenery tlong!
I agree. The Pacific North West is probably the most beautiful and diverse place in the USA.

Funny. I've never been to Bend, but lived in The Dalles for eight years.

The pictures there are of Crater Lake. That's about 90 miles south of Bend.I was thinking the one with the Hot Air Balloons might be Tigard. They have a large annual event there.

I enjoyed my time in Bend. We stayed at an inn right on the river, and I got up early and hiked up a mountain right next to Mt. Bachelor. The payoff was a great view of the Sisters.

Plus there's this breakfast place that has like ten kinds of Eggs Benedict.

Overall, :tu. I recommend.

I'm leaving for Sunriver (10 miles south of Bend) this Friday. I'll be there for 9 days. Can't wait! :toast

All those pics you posted have me sold on Bend. Not this year or next year (already have my trips planned out for those), but maybe in two years I'll have to check Oregon.

Alright well first ill go with my fav place ive ever lived-del mar, cal or issaquah,wa but those are biased so

US
Jackson Hole, wyoming...Awesome being out in the country on a ranch, with mountains, rivers, beautiful
A city in west Maui, I think it was Kaanapali maybe-something around there

Europe
Prague-love the gothic city, beautiful women and just great vibe
Cinque Terre, Italy-5 little towns all next too each other (bout a mile between each)-if you want prob my favorite hike ever its here. Along the coast thru all 5 awesome little towns and thru hills growing the grapes that to make the local wine
Interlaken, switzerland-and surrounding alps. Went up on a gondolla and stayed the night in a small mountain town-breathtaking

Prob my least fav european city I've been to is London. I noticed a lot of people mentioned it and i always meet people who like it, I guess I'm one of the few who wasn't very impressed with it, especially compared to the places I listed above.

Pretty much anywhere in Switzerland, if i had to pick one, it would be Lucerne

http://www.funmurphys.com/photos/blog/europe/lucerne_panorama.jpg

Visit an old highschool friend there ocassionally, been about three times, and each time it amazes me how clean and beautiful everything about the place is.

Favorite big city is a tie between Paris and London.

I am going to Geneva next Summer. I will get to this city for sure as well.
