South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford did not spend the last five days hiking the Appalachian Trail -- as his staff indicated -- but instead was in Buenos Aires, Argentina, he told The State newspaper.

Spotted returning from the trip at the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta, Georgia, Wednesday morning, the Republican governor told The State he had considered hiking the Appalachian Trail after his state's busy legislative season ended but instead decided differently.
"I wanted to do something exotic. It's a great city," Sanford said, referring to Buenos Aires.
The governor will speak with reporters Wednesday at 2 p.m. ET, his office announced.
Sanford's staff and family seemed to be in the dark about his whereabouts. Sanford (http://topics.cnn.com/topics/Mark_Sanford) also said no one else accompanied him on the trip, the paper reported. The Republican governor and possible 2012 contender told the newspaper only that he took a drive along the coastline on his trip.

What type of person just says, "Hey, instead of taking a hike, I'm just going to fly by myself to another country for a week. Oh, and my family doesn't need to know either."

Just bizarre.

You mean, apart from the fact that just flying to Argentina without telling your family or anyone in your staff is pretty erratic?

It even states further in the article that the police feel the governor should at least tell them that he's leaving so they don't suspect foul play, and so the lieutenant gov can handle things while he's away.

I'm assuming he has children. That's what's really weird about this... he was gone on Father's Day and didn't tell his family where he was.

Spending 2 or 3 days driving the coast? That's an iffy one.

Unplugging for a bit after an intense showdown is one thing... but totally going off grid for 4 days, especially when you're the governor of a state, is another.

Sounds like nothing more than a "Find anything we can to bash the South Carolina Governor because of his vocal opposition to Obama's stimulus plan and a potential GOP candidate later down the road" reach.

What is father's day? You tell your dad "happy fathers day", maybe even give him a little gift or dinner and that is it. It's over. Big deal. I don't really celebrate any State-deemed holidays like they different from any other random time I want to have a good time with family or friends.

(CNN) -- South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford admitted Wednesday, amid speculation over his whereabouts for the last several days, that he has been engaged in an extramarital affair with an Argentinian woman.
Gov. Mark Sanford chokes up as he admits to having an affair.

Gov. Mark Sanford chokes up as he admits to having an affair.

"I've been unfaithful to my wife," Sanford told a news conference in Columbia, the state capital. "I developed a relationship with what started as a dear, dear friend from Argentina."

His voice choking at times, Sanford apologized to his wife and four sons, his staff and supporters, and said he would resign immediately as head of the Republican Governors Association. The affair was discovered five months ago, Sanford said.

The South Carolina governor had not been seen in public since June 18. When questioned, Sanford's staff had told media outlets that he was hiking in the Appalachian Trail. But Sanford was spotted Wednesday in Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

The South Carolina governor said he had been in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

"I'm a bottom-line kind of guy. I'll lay it out, it's going to hurt, and we'll let the chips fall as they may," Sanford said as he spoke with reporters.

The South Carolina governor has had a bruising year, losing his fight to turn down $700 million in federal stimulus money. Sanford initially tried to require that any stimulus money pay down the state debt, a stance rejected by the Obama administration.

The South Carolina's Supreme Court ruled earlier this month that Sanford had to accept the stimulus funds.

Earlier Wednesday, South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Carol Fowler said in a statement it was the "height of irresponsibility for the governor to walk out on his solemn duty to the people of South Carolina.

"When it comes to the real needs and concerns of South Carolinians, Mark Sanford has been pretty much missing in action for the last six-and-a-half years. But it is not acceptable for him to be actually missing.

"However, as disturbing as it is to walk out on your responsibilities without telling anyone, what's more troubling is that the governor and his staff have been less than truthful about his whereabouts," the statement said.

Sanford's wife Jenny told CNN Tuesday she had not talked to her husband since he left last Thursday and did not know where he went.

"I am being a mom today. I have not heard from my husband. I am taking care of my children," she said outside the couple's beach home on Sullivan's Island, South Carolina.

When the media reports on this, they will make sure the words "Republican" and "Conservatiave" are loud and clear and prominent. This usually happens whenever a Republican is involved in a scandal. I guarantee REPUBLICAN will be prominent in the article title, and plastered many times throughout the article.

However, when its a democrat, the word democrat is usually no where to be seen, but if it is, its hidden in the depths of the article and not prominent and only mentioned once.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/ap_on_re_us/us_sc_governor_where

COLUMBIA, S.C. – After going AWOL for seven days, Gov. Mark Sanford admitted Wednesday that he'd secretly flown to Argentina to visit a woman with whom he'd been having an affair. He apologized to his wife and four sons and said he will resign as head of the Republican Governors Association.

"I've let down a lot of people, that's the bottom line," the 49-year-old governor said at a news conference where he choked up as he ruminated with remarkable frankness on God's law, moral absolutes and following one's heart. His family did not attend.

The woman, who lives in Argentina, has been a "dear, dear friend" for about eight years but, Sanford said, the relationship didn't become romantic until a little over a year ago. He's seen her three times since then, and his wife found out about it five months ago.

He told reporters he spent "the last five days of my life crying in Argentina" and the affair is now over. Sanford, a rumored 2012 presidential candidate, refused to say whether he'll leave office.

"What I did was wrong. Period," he said.

Questions about Sanford's whereabouts arose early this week. For two days after reporters started asking questions, his office had said he had gone hiking on the Appalachian Trial.

Cornered at the Atlanta airport by a reporter, Sanford revealed Wednesday morning that he'd gone to Argentina for a seven-day trip.

When news first broke about his mysterious disappearance, first lady Jenny Sanford told The Associated Press she did not know where her husband had gone for the Father's Day weekend.

Sanford's announcement came a day after another prominent Republican, Sen. John Ensign of Nevada, apologized to his GOP Senate colleagues after revealing last week that he had an affair with a campaign staffer and was resigning from the GOP leadership.

Sanford, first elected governor in 2002, has more than a year remaining in his second term and is barred by state law from running again.

He emerged Wednesday afternoon at a news conference and it took more than a few minutes into his address before he got to the crux of what had happened. He spoke of his love of hiking and how he used to guide trips along the Appalachian Trail — and only then tearfully apologized to his wife, his staff and his friends.

"I hurt a lot of different folks," he said, occasionally choking up throughout the news conference that lasted about 20 minutes.

A former three-term congressman, Sanford most recently snared headlines for his unsuccessful fight to turn aside federal stimulus cash for his state's schools. His vocal battle against the Obama administration — and libertarian, small-government leanings — won praise from conservative pundits. Ultimately, a state court order required him to take the money.

Sanford was born May 28, 1960, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., the eldest of four siblings. He earned a bachelor's degree in business from Furman University in 1983 and a master's of business administration from the University of Virginia in 1988.

After working for a couple of years in the financial world in New York, he returned to South Carolina and said he was shaped by his summers working on the family plantation. He served in the U.S. House for three terms before honoring a term limits pledge and leaving office in 2001.

In 2002, he defeated incumbent Democrat Jim Hodges by 4 percentage points to become governor and won re-election in 2006, beating Democratic state Sen. Tommy Moore.

As governor, Sanford has had seemingly endless run-ins with the GOP-dominated Legislature, once bringing pigs to the House chamber to protest pork barrel spending. He also put a "spending clock" outside his office to show how quickly a proposed budget would spend state money.

Why did he fly to Argentina to end the relationship? A phone call would have cost less.

I don't know what to think... but it's interesting.

well it should be well know what affiliation edwards and clinton belonged to. not so for spitzer and that other guy from last week. i looked up spitzer and it was buried and i got an article that was posted right when it broke.

i'm also curious where you found that article that you posted here. i couldn't find it.

What article was Spitzer's party ID buried?

It was on the CNN front page. I've imagined it's changed because the article was literally 3 minutes old when I C/P'd it.

So, after getting caught in his lie, Gov. Sanford, rather than totally coming clean, tries to spin more lies. He lied to his wife about ending the affair, so now having been caught he tries to spin this story about going down there to break off the relationship, when even the the forum ingenue can see through that lie immediately.

To review:
South Carolina has a governor who not only cheats on his wife, not only lies to his wife about ending his infidelity, but then lies to his family, his staff, and the people of South Carolina about his whereabouts for five days, so he can slip out of the country just to get laid.

I really hate to have to channel Keith Olbermann, but in this case it applies:

Governor Sanford, save what few shreds of dignity you have left, and resign.

Thats a fucking bullshit perspective of the highest order. I have gotten no further in this thread upon reading this.

He is an elected public official who just-so-happens to hold an office that numbers 50 total in this country.

He is tasked with the day-to-day operation of a state in this union. You think CEOs of major corporations can take unannounced vacations?! Hell no. Most of those CEOs arent dealing with nearly the money a governor does.

Him being indignant about it is even worse. Its like celebrities bitching about paparazzi, when politicians bitch about the media, they should have looked at the job description.

You were elected by the people, the media's job is to inform those people. When the highest ranking state official goes mysteriously missing, thats news, thats life.

Also, Buenos Aires. Congratulations, South Carolina, you elected a pedophile.

wow. a pedophile? i must've missed something.

He's referring to things like this: http://www.state.gov/g/drl/rls/hrrpt/2003/27883.htm

Child abuse and prostitution continued to occur, but there was progress in some areas. In the city of Buenos Aires, the Council for the Rights of Girls, Boys, and Adolescents implemented a hot line and a network of neighborhood defenders offices to assist victims. The council received 71 reports of child commercial sexual exploitation in 2002. In conjunction with other agencies and organizations, such as UNICEF, the council also conducted active educational and awareness raising efforts. Prosecutors and police pursued cases of Internet child pornography and sought additional legal tools to confront such cybercrime. On September 2, Buenos Aires provincial police reportedly dismantled a child prostitution ring, detaining 6 women and 1 man who exploited 15 girls ranging in age from 8 to 17.

And this... www.globalmarch.org/child_labour/image/ARGENTINA.pdf (http://www.globalmarch.org/child_labour/image/ARGENTINA.pdf)

Women and children are trafficked from Paraguay, Bolivia, and
Brazil for commercial sexual exploitation, and migrants from
neighboring countries are sometimes trafficked to Argentina for
other types of forced labor.
In 2001, UNICEF published a study carried out in Buenos Aires,
Córdoba, Villa María , San Francisco, Resistencia, Posadas,
Neuquen and Puerto Madryn. A total of 326 interviews were
carried out, where 52% of the interviewees were child victims of
commercial sexual exploitation.
Child and adolescent victims (of varying ages) of commercial
sexual exploitation have been found within overt spaces for
commercial sex: streets, service stations, plazas, and parks.
Victims of CSEC have also been found within covert spaces for
commercial sex such as: saunas, brothels, whiskey bars,
massage parlours, etc, within each of the cities studied by
UNICEF.

wow. a pedophile? i must've missed something.

Yeah, its a leap. But if youre allowed to theorize, so am I. I could be equally as wrong, but here's my premise.

1. How in the fuck does a governor cultivate a relationship with some broad in Argentina? Whatever, we'll let that one slide and say "Ok, I'll go with that."

2. Having said "lover", why would a governor risk his career flying to a different country to visit said lover? What? You meeting the parents?

3. South America isnt exactly the most lawful place in the world to visit. Its probably beautiful (from pics Ive seen), obviously like any country, nearly all of its citizens are very decent people, just really average place to live with beautiful scenery. But their law enforcement is nowhere near as effective or uncorruptable as other parts of the world. They're also generally more tolerant to what we in America would call "sexual deviance". Not children, per say, but more transvestites, prostitution and orgies. In a place of lawlessness, corruption and sexual deviance (all by American standards), it isnt unthinkable that one could find a place to...well, be a sick fucking pedophile who deserves to die.

4. Back to the "off the grid" travel...if he were having a relationship with an Argentine woman, it would make more sense to bring her to the states. I cant, for the life of me, underestimate a man's intelligence who won a governor's seat. I am not saying he's brilliant or even smarter than anyone here. But what I can say is he isnt stupid. If he had a woman on the side (in Argentina), he would know this could end his public career if caught. Therefore, to lessen the chances of being caught, one would have to minimize risk. Which brings me to the final point...

5. Going off the grid and taking an international trip is not minimizing risk. Its maximizing risk. Its political suicide. He knew that when he left. His career is completely done, now. He will probably resign before July's end in shame. Not because he cheated on his wife, but for dereliction of duty. He knowingly threw his entire life's work into the shitter for some Argentinian ass?

All this leads me to two possible conclusions:

Theory 1: He was fucking some hot Latin chick and she so entranced him that the call to his lesser brain was too much to resist. After all the shit he went through with the stimulus, coupled with his other wacky-ass, media-driven publicity stunts (the carrying pigs gig), he just didnt want to do it anymore. He is done, he quit. He booked the next flight out of town, family, job and responsibility be damned...Im going to lay with my Latin princess tonight. When I come back, Im done and I know it.

Theory 2: Hes an actor, quite a good one to become governor. He isnt the smartest in the world, but he isnt dumb. In his twisted mind, what he was going to do made sense and he believed he could get away with it depending on how long he was away. He rationalized "4 days isnt much, a quick interview about my whereabouts and boom...done, non-issue". He's like any other powerful person who walks the face of the Earth. At some point, whats normal becomes below you. The history books a littered with the deviance of the powerful and what they feel they can do that the unwashed masses cannot. Its always a possibility. The child trade is a very, very real epidemic on a global scale. 3rd world countries are a strange destination for powerful white males to travel to unbeknownst to their family and staff. Youre hiding something, youre partaking in something you want no one to know about. A hot, adult Latin piece of perfect ass isnt one of those. Thats something you brag about to other powerful males.

Just a theory. We'll never know, obviously, and if I were a reporter of any sort, I certainly would never write what I just wrote as it has no ground to stand on. But if I were a reporter, I'd book a flight to Argentina and get with customs and the Embassy to see where he landed, where he stayed, what he did and so on. Then, I'd follow his foot steps and ask the locals about rich, white Americans and what they like to do in their country. I would expect their answers to be less than admirable. I would then dig deeper. And deeper. Maybe there is a known local spot for deviant people. Go there, ask around. "You seen this man?" holding his photo. So on and so on.

If nothing...great, no reason to doubt him. If something...Pulitzer.

I have a habit of seeing the faults in my argument and addressing them in mid-paragraph. It makes for long posts (and conversations).

Look, bottom line. Powerful, connected WASPs do not normally go off the grid to a third world country to cheat on their wife with an adult, unless youre secretly gay. Add being a Governor in that mix, and the impllications in mind, are clear.

1. Hes gay
2. He likes children

Been holding these since December huh? What about that liberal media bias?

Below are excerpts of e-mails, obtained by The State newspaper in December, between Gov. Mark Sanford's personal e-mail account and Maria, a woman in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The State has removed the woman's full name and other personal details, including her address, e-mail address and children's names.

The woman who South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford had an affair with lives on Republica de la India in the Palermo neighborhood of Argentina.

Sanford's office Wednesday did not dispute the authenticity of the emails.

McClatchy special correspondent Angeles Mase visited the 14-story apartment building in Buenos Aires Wednesday where the woman lives, according to the emails, which included her address. The woman at the address answered to the name in the emails and, at first, agreed to speak to a visitor, but she declined after the visitor identified herself as a reporter.

The doorman at the building, shown a photograph of Sanford, said he did not recognize him. According to the doorman, the woman has two sons, one a teenager of driving age and the other younger. The emails refer to the woman's two sons.

From Gov. Sanford,
Date: Thursday, July 10, 2008, 12:24 a.m.

“One, tomorrow leave at 5 a.m. for New York and meetings. Will think about you on its streets and wish I was going to be there later in the month when you are there. Tomorrow night back to Philadelphia for the start of the National Governor's Conference through the weekend. Back to Columbia for Tuesday and then on Wednesday, as I think I had told you, taking the family to China, Tibet, Nepal, India, Thailand and then back through Hong Kong on world wind tour. Few days home then to Bahamas for 5 days on a friend’s boat for the last break of the summer. The following weekend have been asked to spend it out in Aspen, Colorado with McCain - which has kicked up the whole VP talk all over again in the press back home ...

Two, mutual feelings .... You have a particular grace and calm that I adore. You have a level of sophistication that so fitting with your beauty. I could digress and say that you have the ability to give magnificent gentle kisses, or that I love your tan lines or that I love the curve of your hips, the erotic beauty of you holding yourself (or two magnificent parts of yourself) in the faded glow of the night’s light - but hey, that would be going into sexual details ...

Three and finally, while all the things above are all too true - at the same time we are in a hopelessly - or as you put it impossible - or how about combine and simply say hopelessly impossible situation of love. How in the world this lightening strike snuck up on us I am still not quite sure. As I have said to you before I certainly had a special feeling about you from the first time we met, but these feelings were contained and I genuinely enjoyed our special friendship and the comparing of all too many personal notes ...

Lastly I also suspect I feel a little vulnerable because this is ground I have never certainly never covered before - so if you have pearls of wisdom on how we figure all this out please let me know... In the meantime please sleep soundly knowing that despite the best efforts of my head my heart cries out for you, your voice, your body, the touch of your lips, the touch of your finger tips and an even deeper connection to your soul.”

----------------------------------------------------------

From Maria,
Wednesday, July 9, 2008 8:14 p.m.

“As I told you I shouldn't have done this trip but I would have felt worst if I wouldn't have come because it was too over the date, he is a very nice guy, great heart ... but unfortunately I am not in love with him ... You are my love ... something hard to believe even for myself as it's also a kind of impossible love, not only because of distance but situation. Sometimes you don't choose things, they just happen... I can't redirect my feelings and I am very happy with mine towards you.”

Keep in mind that more people in this country consider themselves conservative than liberal. Also, Obama is losing support amongst independents. A strong GOP candidate in 2012 may be someone you've never heard of. No one knew who Obama was in 2004.

I'd have voted for McCain in a heartbeat if not for Palin.

Need balance in government. Republican President for a Democratic Congress and vice versa.

Looking at the current direction of this country, I dont think one or the other would make much difference at all.

Check the CBS/NYT poll. It showed >70% in favor of a public plan.

I think people want a limited plan which doesn't cost over a mental threshold number... that number is probably below 800B... which also excludes coverage for illegal immigrants.

I don't think they should be denied medical attention, but I do think that immigration laws should be enforced and they should be deported or given an ultimatum to seek legal citizen status within 6 months or be deported.

You do know that not everyone that wants to be a citizen can do so? Unless you're a skilled worker, or married to an American, or have had a kid, you have to wait for a type of lottery, and hope you're chosen. Then, once that's done, you have to pony up the money for the forms, which is about $1500 IIRC.

Doesn't matter. The system may be broken, but you should still have to obey the law of the land you live in, even if that law says gtfo.

Now, I agree that we should make immigration easier, because in the end, we could use hardworking individuals, and an infusion of that would be great. However, as long as the law is in place, we are bound by it, and those that are breaking the law shouldn't be able to have the same benefits of those who are working within the system.

I was responding to the 6 month timeline Jman suggested. That's just not feasible unless there's some comprehensive path-to-citizenship plan that gets passed.

The reason why I highly doubt immigration will be made easier is because that makes the borders more porous, and when some legal immigrant does something wrong, it will make the hardcore righties say, "Look, we lowered the standards and now we're letting in evil terrorists/killers/etc!"

I agree with your point about being bound by the law, but also I think it's important to recognize that some people that are here illegally have come over with their parents when they were young, and this is the only life they know. Also, Mexico is mostly a sh*thole, and I doubt most Mexicans want to be forced back there to work for 1/10th of the wage, while knowing their government is led by either corrupt politicians or straight out drug dealers.

That was just a number I threw out. I don't think that a universal amnesty approach is right... but I do think that it should be made easier for those who are already here to be US citizens.

Just received my new green card today, good for 10 years. When you add up forms, fingerprinting, copies of stuff, etc, you're a little over $600. But that's if you do it yourself, without help from a lawyer and you already had a green card approved before.
It was more money when I had a H1B and had to renew it.
And for non-married people that apply (through skilled worker programs) you almost always need help from a lawyer, and that will raise the cost considerably.

Having gone through the entire process (started 10 years ago), I can safely say the 6 month expectation is impossible under the current system.

Fucking Obama...it's all HIS fault!

http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archives/individual/2009_06/018771.php

"This is almost like, 'I don't give a damn, the country's going to Hell in a handbasket, I just want out of here,'" Limbaugh said. "[Sanford] had just tried to fight the stimulus money coming to South Carolina. He didn't want any part of it; he lost the battle. He said, 'What the hell. I mean, the federal government's taking over -- what the hell, I want to enjoy life.'"

Limbaugh added, "The point is, there are a lot of people whose spirit is just -- they're fed up, saying, 'To hell with it, I don't even want to fight this anymore, I just want to get away from it.'"

A listener apparently sent Limbaugh an email during the program, asking if he was kidding about the White House's economic policies being responsible for Sanford's affair. "No!" he said, adding that the governor may have realized, "The Democrats are destroying the country; we can't do anything to stop it."

Orgies? sexual deviance? WTF!! seriously, don't spew around bullshit you've haven't got a clue about. I don't care what fucking point you're trying to make.

way to defend your hack theory. like i said. work on your "gotchas"

Wtf planet are you on?

Viva: that's ok. we paid for the luau at the white house yesterday and for the obama's paris trip and date. nothing to see here.

Clam: this is what i see here: a gov. from the party of high morals steals taxpayers money to go cheat on his wife and kids.

Viva: i see taxpayers money wasted either way.

Now, since you're probably too stupid to understand, here's the definition of equivocation:

e⋅quiv⋅o⋅ca⋅tion

   /ɪˌkwɪvhttp://cache.lexico.com/dictionary/graphics/luna/thinsp.pngəˈkeɪhttp://cache.lexico.com/dictionary/graphics/luna/thinsp.pngʃən/ http://cache.lexico.com/g/d/dictionary_questionbutton_default.gif (http://dictionary.reference.com/help/luna/IPA_pron_key.html) Show Spelled Pronunciation [i-kwiv-uh-key-shuhhttp://cache.lexico.com/dictionary/graphics/luna/thinsp.pngn] http://cache.lexico.com/g/d/dictionary_questionbutton_default.gif (http://dictionary.reference.com/help/luna/Spell_pron_key.html) Show IPA

Use equivocation in a Sentence (http://ask.reference.com/web?q=Use+equivocation+in+a+Sentence&qsrc=2892&o=101993)

–noun 1.the use of equivocal or ambiguous expressions, esp. in order to mislead or hedge; prevarication.2.an equivocal, ambiguous expression; equivoque: The speech was marked by elaborate equivocations. 3.Logic. a fallacy caused by the double meaning of a word.

You can deny your bs equivocation all you want, but everyone can see what you did, what you always do. It's the same thing as comparing Hitler to Bush because they both gave orders that led to thousands of deaths. It's the reason why conservatives can't win a vote nowadays, because so many of them are mindless parrots.

Maybe if some of you just stood up and said, "Hey, that was a pretty douchey move on his part," then I could not tolerate you. But it's always this petty, childish, "JIMMY STARTED IT!!!!" crap.

Should I waste my time on it? Probably not. But unfortunately for me, I can't just see blatant hackery and not try to call it out. C'est la vie.

I like all these stories better:

** Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) answered an ad placed in a Washington, D.C. homosexual paper, the Washington Blade, by Stephen Gobie, a male prostitute. Gobie became Barney Frank’s live-in sexual companion, and was soon running a male prostitution ring from Barney Frank’s condo. Today Frank chairs the Financial Services Committee.

** Rep. Gerry Studds (D-MA) has sex with underage male House page. Studds turns his back on the House when he is censured. He continued to serve in House for six more terms.

** Senate Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) plagued by scandals: Abramoff Scandal, Sons who are lobbyists, boxing tickets and other perks, land deal that made him $1 million, etc.- Serves as democratic Senate Majority Leader.

** Rep. Mel Reynolds (D-IL) was indicted for sexual assault and criminal sexual abuse for engaging in a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old campaign volunteer that began during the 1992 campaign. Despite the charges, he continued his campaign and was re-elected that November. Reynolds initially denied the charges, which he claimed were racially motivated. He was convicted on 12 counts of sexual assault, obstruction of justice and solicitation of child pornography.

** Hillary Clinton (D-NY) Her husband was impeached and involved in a record number of scandals and convictions during his term in office. She herself takes money from FBI fugitive. She becomes Secretary of State.

** Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA) kills girl . Leaves her in pond to drown. Today he is second longest serving member (next to the former kleagle) in the Senate.

** Senator Robert Byrd (D-WV) former Ku Klux Klan Kleagle (recruiter). Today Byrd is longest serving member in the US Senate.

** Democratic Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vt)- in a 1985 television appearance Leahy disclosed classified information that one of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's telephone conversations had been intercepted. The information that Leahy revealed had been used in the operation to capture the Arab terrorists who had hijacked the Achille Lauro cruise ship and killed American citizens, and the Union-Tribune claimed that Leahy's indiscretion may have cost the life of at least one of the Egyptian operatives involved in that operation. Because of his several leaks he was forced to step down from his seat on the Senate Intelligence Committee. Today he is Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

** Democratic Iowan Senator Tom Harkin (and John Kerry D-MA) traveled to Managua, Nicaragua to assure Fidel Castro's proxy Daniel Ortega that Senate Democrats were working overtime to thwart President Reagan's efforts to bring Democracy to the region. Today he is head of Senate agriculture committee.

If PEP had just added all the Republican scandals that occurred during the same time frame as those Democrat ones he wouldn't have looked like a partisan tool.

The Abramoff scandal alone would have gotten close to that list.

Oh well.

WC will be crestfallen

I doubt it. WC never admits he's wrong. Maybe it's because he's infallible.
Wow...

I leave this thread alone after the initial day, maybe two, and you are all talking behind my back.

I don't know what the other pages since my last post say. I haven't ever read the posts after these yet. Still...

You are both wrong.

Oh Gee... I expect you to be a cynical asshole. Nuff said. At least you don't warrant me to keep you on IGNORE like I have Clambake for some months now.

WH, it surprises me that you just said that. I have admitted on several occasions I was wrong. I guess just not enough to your liking, or in threads you didn't follow.

Looking back, my last posting was in #87, and until some minutes ago, I hadn't looked at this thread. In that one I said:

Well, this guy has the Clinton Democrats cinched up for 2012 now...Isn't that an indication that I saw what the most recent news up to that point was?

I'm not real big on a persons personal life. In politics, I care about how they vote. In this case, for this governor, I haven't a clue even. I only came back to this thread because all the last responses in others I cared for were mine.
