Players Vote Marbury as Least Favorite
Posted by: Stephanie West In: Boston Celtics| Cleveland Cavaliers| Los Angeles Lakers| Phoenix Suns

Marbury's new team
Earlier this month, Sports Illustrated conducted a poll with 190 NBA players, whom were asked which NBA player would they least like to have on their team and Kobe Bryant tied for third place. Ironically, on Tuesday the same group of players were asked which NBA player would they most like to have on their team and Kobe placed second with 13% of the vote.
Cleveland’s own LeBron James was first with 32% of the vote, and Steve Nash placed third with 8%. There was a two-way tie between Chris Paul and Kevin Garnett landing at 7% each for fourth place.
In the poll earlier this month for least popular potential teammate, Stephon Marbury received 22% of the vote, followed by Houston forward Ron Artest (9%) and a three-way tie among Bryant, Golden State guard Stephen Jackson and Washington guard Gilbert Arenas (5% each).

Yeah, I wonder what pisses off all these players about Nash? Is he some big whiner or crybaby?

So 5% of the players polled are not mentally strong enough to play with Kobe. That's not too surprising. I don't think it necessarily means Kobe is disliked. He could still be disliked, but being disliked shouldn't play a huge factor as to whether you would want him on your team or not. If I wanted to win, I'd want Kobe on my team even if I thought he was an asshole. I think players that don't want to play with Kobe aren't emotionally strong enough for a guy with Kobe's personality to be hard on them when they don't raise their level of commitment and effort. You might not like Kobe, but he demands that you work hard and compete. There are plenty of NBA players that are comfortable enough just being NBA players and millionaires, and don't want or need the stress and pressures of trying to be champions or pushing their limits to become among the best players in the league. That's what it tells me.

If I was in the NBA I'd definitely want to play with Kobe, but he's not without some major faults. He was ridiculously arrogant to the point of barely talking with his teammates the first half of his career, he dropped that dime on Shaq, and trashed Bynum when they were losing. I can see it.

Good post. Kobe might be an asshole but if you care about winning then you want to play with someone him. But it's no secret that a good number of NBA players don't care about winning and are happy with collecting a paycheck.

Basically in terms of cancers players don't want it's the above. Marbury leading the way.

It's not fun to stand around and watch your teammate go off for 81 points...or get screamed at if you fail to box a guy out, don't rotate quickly enough on D, etc...
