For MTV to actually play videos again....

Before Barrack, Jordan, Orpah and even Bill Cosby, there was Michael Jackson.

When did MTV play Michael Jackson videos, yesterday, today? I flipped over there last night and they were showing some show about girls being 16 and pregnant. Fuse was showing his videos all night yesterday. Fuse>MTV
Fuse actually shows music videos. MTV does not. Well MTV does show music videos but it's like 2am when they do.

MTV2 is playing his music now, yesterday it was all over MTV the whole day. It says on the userguide that it's 16 and Pregnant/Viva La Bam or whatever, but it was actually Michael Jackson tribute the whole time.

A lot of people missed my initial point here.

When I say "before", I mean Michael was universally accepted by white America before the Cosby show was the number one show on television (in the pilot, Theo had an MJ poster on his wall) or Jordan was the biggest athlete or Oprah was the #1 talk show host.

He was the first African American to dominate the mainstream culture of the U.S.

Ray Charles, Otis Redding etc. were still considered "black performers" who sung "black music".

Not being an ass or anything, but how do you live this long (however old you are) without seeing one of his videos or hearing his music?

Yeah that's not really true.

Nat King Cole had his own TV show in the 1950's.
Louis Armstrong knocked the Beatles from the #1 spot after 14 weeks in the sixties.

But mainly...

Diana Ross had like 10-15 #1 hits with the Supremes before the Jackson 5 even cut their first album, and she had a bunch more as a solo artist long before Jackson released Thriller.

He may have been the biggest African American star(he would have been the biggest star if were white too), but he definitely wasn't the first to break through and gain acceptance.

MTV is a flatout shit channel.

Reality shows 24/7, it baffles me.

I catch the Jackass reruns, but that's about it. The Real World, sucks, and doesn't really demonstrate "Real World" things. :lol But I agree, outside of Jackass everything else sucks.

Hustle n Flow is on right now. I thought I realized how terrible it was the first time I saw it. It's obviously gotten much worse somehow.
