View Full Version : Please Don't Bring Bruce Back

At his advanced age, I am not even sure he can be trusted with spot minutes as a defensive specialist anymore.

I'd prefer the Bowen Backers retain their revisionist memories of Bruce Bowen, the 3-point marskman and the best perimeter defender in the game -- a complete player.

I'm mixed on this. If they bring back Bowen thats great I think he can still be a 12-15mpg guy who hits open shots and is our ace defender. If they choose to let him go then that is fine too. We tried bringing Barry back and it didnt pan out at all and this feels like the same kind of situation.

If you put me in charge of the decision, gods forbid, I would probably opt to bring in Gist and Harriston and just let Bowen retire.

If not a player I would love to try him as an assistant defensive coach.

we are in the market for a 3 who can play some defense now that that the draft has played out. Bruce can still play some darn good defense for 15-20 minutes a night he is still in great shape. I wouldn't mind giving him one last year so we can give him a proper goodbye. Then 4 years from now retire #12.

So would I, seems like an ideal defensive coach..could make the younger guys a hell of a lot better

My thoughts exactly, hopefully that's the path the front office and Bruce take.

We need Bruce now...in light of the Carter's trade...

Carter is still in the East and there is no guarantee that they will make it past the Celtics and Cavs. With that said, Bruce will most probably back as the Spurs did not draft a SF. But, Scott Skiles, the coach of the Bucks, emphasises on defense and may want Bruce there for a year or something.

Yeah, coach but not player.
Spurs are starting to gather younger wing players and hopefully Bowen does not hinder their development.
