View Full Version : Tau Ceramica getting Splitter insurance?

Just read Tau Ceramica signed Macabbi's Lior Eliyahu to a 4-year contract. Is this a potential Splitter replacement? He's about 6'10", but I'm not sure if he's strictly a 4 or if he's interchangeable as a 4/5 (in which case this wouldn't affect Splitter at all). Can anyone shed light on this development? Much appreciated.

Good point, if Splitter, by some MIRACLE, did come, then the Spurs could save a little money and not have to spend the full MLE.

McDeyss however would be still my number 1 choice.

This is an interesting move by Tau. I hope the Spurs go hard after Sheed unless they already have plans for Splitter. Either way, I can wait another year for Tiago to come over.

Side note: I've heard people raving about De Colo, especially his passing. I'd love to see him get a serious shot at making the roster and I've seen quotes from TP that he'd love to have him in SA.

Eliyahu is not a 5, but that doesn't matter much because Tau had Splitter playing the 5 this season. Tau was really depleated in the frontcourt this year, which is why Barca was able to best them both in Euroleague as well as in ACB. Gamewise this signing doesn't affect Splitter at all.

Yes, Splitter isnīt a great proven Big in FIBA, not only in the NBA. Probably can be a Backup Center from the Bench, not a Starter

Oberto in FIBA was too better than Tiago.

Heīs not our solution

If i want to be honest, the NBA must to buy the TAU. Every TAU player have troubles when he want to play in the NBA. If anyone NBAīs team Owner buy this team, he can make a big move.

No, Splitter coming over would actually be bad.

How many rookie bigs can we carry on a championship roster? 1) Mahinmi (effectively a rookie) 2) Blair 3) Gist 4) Splitter. None of these guys has ever played anything comparable to an 82 games season. We would at most carry 3 rookies, and I suspect Pop will only want 2. That says to me that only one of Gist and Blair ends up on SAS's roster this year. In 2010, we bring in 2 more rooks, Splitter and the odd man out of Blair/Gist.

We'll see. Don't forget that is also the same Pop who started a 19 year old French rookie at point once upon a time.

Exactly my thinking.

+1. Good and Bad. Sheed plays with an attitude. He reminds me a lot of Robert Horry in that he can hit the 3, isn't afraid to pull the trigger and can play defense. -- When properly motivated, he is an excellent addition to a team.

If we get Sheed, its on.

He's definitely not the same Pop as back then. We all know about the "man-love gone wild" for Van Exel and Finley. Here's to hoping he reverts.

Euroleague powerhouse Tau Ceramica have announced the signing of forward Lior Eliyahu, whose draft rights are currently owned by the Houston Rockets.

Eliyahu signed a three year contract with an option for a fourth after playing last season with Maccabi Elite, where he averaged 14 points and 6.6 rebounds in 14 Euroleague games.

He was chosen as the 2008-09 Euroleague December MVP, posting one-month averages of 20.3 points, 12.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists in three straight Maccabi wins, and is a regular on the Israeli national team.

I looked at his highlight reel, and he looks VERY comparable to the highlight reel I saw on Ginobilibi when we drafted him...not saying he is another Manu, but you never know till they play. Anyway, RC said on the radio this morning that De Colo would likely be overseas the next year or two.

i was excited about bringing splitter over this year.

but the drafting of Blair, Gist possibly coming over, and Ian finally being healthy means we already have 3 essential rookies to the team that are still unproven.

adding splitter would be a 4th.

hes got great upside but i think i like the idea of him coming over next summer and us signing a proven, vet big like sheed that will help us in the playoffs.
