Trade Coming? Wolves Draft Ricky Rubio, Jonny Flynn, Ty Lawson
Posted Jun 25, 2009 9:20PM By MATT WATSON (RSS FEED)

When the Kings opted for Tyreke Evans with the fourth pick, Ricky Rubio fell to the Timberwolves at No. 5. Considering it wasn't that long ago that Rubio was talked about as a potential No. 1 pick, you can't blame Minnesota for taking a player who should be their point guard of the future.

Except, just five minutes later, the Timberwolves took Jonny Flynn out of Syracuse, giving them the two best point guards of the draft. Are they going to hold on to both players? It's theoretically possible, but a more likely scenario is that we'll see one of them involved in another trade, possibly announced sometime tonight.

Update: Make it three: with the 18th overall pick, the Timberwolves selected Ty Lawson, although ESPN's Ric Bucher just reported that he's headed to Denver for a future first-rounder the Nuggets picked up from the Bobcats. Bucher was presumably referring to the conditional pick the Nuggets received in the Alexis Ajinca trade last year, which is top-12 protected in 2010, top-10 protected in 2011, top-8 in 2012, top-3 in 2013 and unprotected in 2014.

Rockets are still in the hunt!

The Rockets never quite got into the first-round of the NBA Draft on Thursday, but once they began getting picks, they did not stop until they had three selections in the second round.
And they might not be done yet.
The Rockets bought three second-round picks and used them to acquire high-scoring Central Florida guard Jermaine Taylor, Real Madrid point guard prospect Sergio Llull and athletic Arizona wing Chase Budinger.
They went hard after several early first-round picks, and an NBA executive with knowledge of their trade talks said late Thursday that the Rockets are among several teams still trying to acquire Spanish point guard Ricky Rubio, one of several point guards selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves.

I really dont know what Morey sees in Rubio that is so desireable. He will probably be an all star in like four years. How does that help us now? Brooks is above average point guard right now, who still has room to grow.

But then again, Morey is a man among boys in the world of GMs, so I am confident he will put us in the best possible situation.
