In reference to the troops pulling out of the population centers in Iraq.
Is the shit gonna hit the fan?
Or is it going to go relatively smoothly?
TBH the media has been so quiet about Iraq (except for the occasional bombing which gets minimal attention) I have no idea what's gonna happen.
I'm thinking things will go pretty smooth, but a few cities will see escalated violence.

The shit's already hitting the fan, multiple bombings and 100s killed and injured.
Shiite vs Sunni civil war looming.
Where are those F-22s when we really need them? :lol

The US oilcos should start buying off the Sunnis and Shiites out their oil revenues the way Petraeus did with our tax dollars.

True enough.
True enough.
I agree with both of you. However, don't you think there will be negative political fallout domestically if a civil war ensues?

I doubt it, but who knows. The alternative would be helping Maliki against his wishes. That would undermine him at home, leading to god knows what.

No. People don't give a damn about Iraq anymore. We're just over it. I'm as liberal as they come, but even I'm saying that if those back-asswards, tribal, assholes can't get their shit together, then good f'ing riddance. I doubt I'm alone in holding that sentiment either.
I don't think Americans support the idea of just staying indefinitely to police a bunch of savages who can't stop blowing each other up. If we leave and yeah, civil war ensues, my guess would be that most Americans more or less write off the plight of the Iraqi people as their own damn problem.
At worst the few remaining Republicans will conveniently forget that they unnecessarily started this whole mess... and will use a civil war as an excuse to ramp up their already bilious hatred for Obama, but quite frankly, these people are scumbags, morons and aren't taken even somewhat seriously by the vast majority of the populace... so how much political fallout can they realistically catalyze? Almost none.

This will just be Vietnam 2. The country will implode and everyone will forget about the plight of the people or whatever. A few decades go by before we do it again to some other nation.

"everyone will forget about the plight of the people"
"will"?
Americans never gave a shit about Iraq, the 100s of 1000s Iraqis killed as a result of dubya phony invasion, very probably more than Saddam murdered in his entire reign, the millions of internal and external refugees, the destroyed infrastructure.
Only the oilmen in WH, neo-c*nts, oilcos gave a shit about Iraq, and that was ONLY for the oil, not the people or democracy.
