Yes, God, but, Magic Johnson is his only son. It was Magic who delivered us. We were in the deep shit in the Summer of '84. We'd been humiliated, and used and punished by Boston. That was Boston's campaign to end Magic and send him to the corn field with West, Chamberlain, Baylor, et al. But, Magic would not go quietly into the good night. We came that close to going out, my fellow Lakers fans. '80 & '82 were cake walks. Gimmes. Setups. Riley knew it. Magic knew it. West knew it. But, most importantly, Boston knew it. So when they beat us like that in Boston they were going not just for that knock out, but, to break Magic for good. They'd already broke Jabbar. They had Scott & Worthy on the ropes, but, they needed Magic to say "uncle" as Chamberlain & West had uttered it seasons past.

Magic wouldn't go there. He categorically refused and set about saving our very souls. That's why when he turned on Championship night less than a month a go and loosed that Lakers diatribe it came not from the night he sat there, but, from that night in '84 when they'd turned off the AC at Boston Garden and waived their towels.

im so sick of this big market, 'glamorous team' favoritism BS...

im sick of the Lakers/Celtics being able to get whoever they want virtualy every time. regardless of whether or not Artest proves to be a bad thing or not, the fact that the lakers can come out of nowhere and get him is just infuriating.

im sick of teams like the Spurs having to struggle against all odds, struggle to get ANYONE of quality to sign here, struggle against the biased calls, against the media dumpng on us, struggling every step of the way, while the league, the media and everything else lays down the red carpet for he Lakers/Celtics and asks if theres anything else they can do to help.

That's a very fair rant. It does suck that talent isn't better balanced throughout the NBA.

Enjoy it, teams will come at your team hard in next years playoffs. An upset can always happen. Though if your team signs Artest you are the clear favorites.

A Laker fan that curses the fan base with fans like you. Just like leaving his "beloved" people roaming in the desert for 40 years with no homes. He loves the Lakers, but he curses the Laker fan with arrogance and idiocy.

This is true, but considering the Lakers have been in the league for over 60 years, been in almost half the Finals, More than half the WCF's, and only missed the playoffs like 6 times...well something magical is going on with my favorite team. And no im not a bandwagoner, i first started watching in the 05. when they missed the playoffs

The Celtics and the Lakers have been the two big teams in the league..no doubt about that!!

There is a distinguished history from both teams, natural advantages, and having a major talents at the right time.

Still....I wouldn't be as presumptious as Dr House about it being God's favorite team.

I'm a Spurs fan and there are some who have made that claim during the Duncan era.

I just can't go there!!

I respect the Lakers' success and as a Spurs fan.....I want them to beat the Lakers every chance we get!!!:lol

I'd love to see Kobe do his extracurricular coaching schtick with Ron Ron.

"Yeah, whatever Kobe?" As Ron Ron throws a towel at Kobe's feet and spits on his face.
Kobe raises his hands proclaiming innocence, waiting for the ref to call a whistle.

I've lived in SoCal my whole life besides college and LA is fuckin gross, and most honest people will agree with that. SoCals nicest places are in South Orange County (irvine, newport, san clemente, laguna beach, dana point, etc.), along the coast from Huntington Beach and south, and San Diego counties coastal cities (encinitas, del mar, la jolla, pacific beach, etc.). I got buddies who love the hollywood life and LA life but the city as a whole is nasty, shit traffic, smog, nasty/flat besides "the hills", the beaches are shit compared to the ones i named earlier, LA "cool" attitude. Some people dig it for the nightlife and lifestyle , not I. Tho i will say it has its nice parts, its that big it has to, negatives outweight positives by a LARGE margin.

I dunno man, the Ron (the player formerly known as Prince moustache)'s D is pretty versatile. He's a chucker, though. He just gets frustrated sometimes and goes all Super Collider. All n' all, it's a good pick-up for L.A. prolly.

mingus
07-03-2009, 01:39 AM
you could say the Lakers got rid of defense for better offense , but i'm not sold on that notion . i'm not sure they didn't just give away defense to get better at nothing .

... they didn't need to get better offensively . they were fine the way they were with Ariza not being overly aggressive and letting the offense run through Gasol and Kobe . the more shots that a low fg % shooter like Artest takes away from high fg% shooters like Kobe, Gasol, Bynum and Odom (if he comes back), the better for the opposition .

Ron isn't near the defender he used to be. he's much more of a power defender now. he can't guard quickness like Ariza can anymore.

Artest guards Manu better than any one player in the league. I've never seen someone defend Manu better than Artest did in the 1st round of the 06' playoffs.

Thank you for being objective. The salary cap rule has done a lot of good in the NBA, but it hasn't cured all the sources of inequity. I'm not for basketball socialism, but it can be difficult to digest at times.
