I'm a Chicago transplant who, get this, loves the Spurs. It was hard growing up during the Jordan era when the Spurs were just the Admiral, but my Dad went to Marshall High School and moved up to Chi-town for work. Really got me excited about the Spurs growing up.

Anyway, finally found my way down here a little over a month ago and I've been following the local Sports radio scene.

My takes on the two stations

Ticket 760 -- Love the Morning Drive (except when they waste a whole segment on golf). Peter and Andy seem to have a good time, but is it me or can anyone figure out who's who sometimes. These two guys seem to have the same sounding voice.

Mike Taylor's show is garbage, sorry guys. I don't find any humor in the show, and actually find myself turning the channel.

The Sports Grind, sucks all together. The show is horribly produced and as the great Billy Madison line goes this is how I feel when they try to break down a topic, "what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

ESPN - All though the four letter holds water with me I really haven't been that impressed with the local talk. Chris and Jason are ok, they beat out Taylor's show in my mind, but other than that, nothing for the local stuff.

I think this city needs some fresh blood on the radio. Energy would be nice. Peter and Andy to me have the best show but even they don't bring the local sports scene a live for me.

Am I missing something here.?

Glad to be a part of the board. Lots of great reads in here and I hope to contribute to the cause!!!

Welcome to San Antonio, don't drink the water. Your take on local sports is rather spot on. The only people who will disagree with you are homers that defend there talk show hero's to the grave. In fact you may be accused as being one of my 3 screen names as you may sound like me at times. Unfortunately this subject is on going like Abortions and Evolution. I won't waste time repeating myself i will let my past quotes do the talking :tu

http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=130131

What is so hard to figure out?.....................Any program director or Talk show host would read the blogs and forums for the last 10 years they would have this shit figured out by now.

The radio hosts needs to leave the egos at the door and stop acting like the callers and listeners are lucky to the few worthy individuals to be able to hear your great wisdom.

First off...don't treat the listeners like they are sheep. They already know about Gumba's Pizza and triple AAA AUGER Plumbing. Stop acting like these companies that pay to be on your show are the best things since the www. Enough already! Just say they are good stop acting like you just called them last week to unstop your toilets and they were so fast and courteous! You notice how every talk show host in this city has to call AAA AUGER Plumbing once a month? And enough with how good Gumba's pizza is!

The average radio listener is going to order Papa Johns or they already have a frozen pizza from HEB in the oven. I once went to Gumba's Pizza and I mentioned Walter like he said on the radio and they were like "who's Walter?" I felt like a fool.

At least I can honestly say I never took one drink from Body Solutions. Charlie and Chris acted like that shit cured cancer the way they pimped that shit over the airwaves every 30 minutes.

Second: Stop with the good cop bad cop radio routine! That shit is played out. I am so tired on one talk show host loves Kobe the other thinks hes a fag. And thus we have to hear to homos going at it for an hour..."Oh come on Peter you really wouldn't want Kobe as a Spur?" Are you serous Andy that sorry Rapist will never be a spur as long as I am a fan!" "what about Bret Farve? The Cowboys can use him Jim Bob! Oh come on Mike Bret farve is past his prime!" "Lets let the callers decide...Do you think Farve should be a Cowboy call 736-(760 or text in the words Yes if you use sprint just dial 1897 and press 2 if you think Bret farve is washed up or Press 1 if he could help the Cowboys" and the shit goes on like that for hours.

Third: Stop making the callers wait on hold. these people took the time to not only listen to your sorry ass show they are calling in? Some of these people have jobs or cell phones that charge by the minutes. I am so tired of hearing "when we come back we will talk more about Tiger Woods...Steve,south side Mike, and Dale the cab driver we see you on hold we will take your calls in the next segment...(cut to 8 minutes later after a few Plumbing commercials) "ok we are back and will get to your calls but first lets talk about this Bruce Bowen deal is he worth 5 million?" "well Andy here what I think.......(8 minutes later) ok lets go to the phones how about Dale the cab driver he's been on hold for 2 hours lets go to him...Hello Dale what's on your mind?....(pause and dial tone...) "ok we lost Dale lets go to Janet on line 4 Hi Janet! how do you feel about Bruce Bowen leaving the spurs? " "hello Peter I wanted to respond to the Bret Farve situation you guys were talking about 2 hours ago...." "You see______I____Thi......"

Oh oh!... looks like Janet's cell phone has a bad signal try calling back Janet with another phone..." well lets take a break, when we come back we will talk to Gilbert Dias a towel boy at the SBC center lets get his takes on this Bruce Bowen situation....Steve,Billy and Debra we see you there stick around we will get to your calls after this short break....."

Another thing: Stop acting like there is not another Sports show in San Antonio. It's so childish to hear the sports hosts in this city always reefer to the other station as..."well there is another station and they claim Bruce is going to be a spurs But we will wait before we say anything.. and stop acting like you can't say (SPURSTALK) you hear everyday "well i read on a Spurs site that....." what is the big deal about telling the listeners where you surf for info? Just like when someone gets fired the radio stations don't say anything they just want you to act like Walter,Jeff, and Jay Howard never existed.

Also: Stop using cheesy tactics to get people to visit your website..."hey Jason did you see Eva Longoria's camel toe? I posted the photos at our site, just log on and click on the babe of the day and don't forget to answer the daily question. Today's question is....Do you think the spurs should go back to the Taco Cabana colors?"

Posters on the www know already what websites suck, and they post at the sites they enjoy reading not a site that is there to sale them something or promote the station.

When the radio hosts in this city start treating the listeners like real people who are above the age of 21 and not like some horny 16 year old they may break new ground and actually become a decent talk show.

Actually that doesn't sound that bad when you have to hear 11 minutes of Tiger Woods updates.

What I find tacky is the fact that MikeyP and Peter Burns was all up in our grill 24/7 the last week or so about this huge event called Peter for a day and yet they didn't read one Email or any topics from ST the site responsible for MikeyP winning the contest. And to top it off the contest is over and they had at there website where you can still listen to the audition tapes and vote in?

What does that say about a Local radio website when they can't at least update your page once a day? Hell I know 80 year old men on face book that respond to there Face book pages every 4 hours! Here is what the site says today almost 24 hours after MikeyP already did the show!

SA is just a tough market to break into for Sports Radio. The fans are not getting what they want and the big name hosts are only a few. When I think of SA Sports Talk Radio it really makes me sick.

That is not true the Tony Bruno show was the bomb and his show was the perfect example of how sports radio should be.
You keep it sports related and let the comedy come natural. The local shows in this town try to hard be funny, or milk something to death like they are clueless and bored with noting to say. I am so tired of the same excuse that there is only the spurs and how can you talk spurs for 3 hours.

If your talented you can talk about using duct tape for three hours and make it interesting.

Tony Bruno was like a chalupa. Just the right amount of beans, not to much tomato ,just enough cheese, and a pinch of salsa. You have to keep everything in balance. Take a call after each email or after every station break. Stop making the hot topic of the day your main focus. It's like they catch Bonds doing steroids and they act like they can't talk about The Dallas Mavericks not signing any good players. Or else in the news its about
Jerry Jones gets rid of Terrell Owens. ok we get it don't spend two hours on it. They act like there are no high school games. or local boxing, or Missions baseball.

Hell talk about the top ten topics from Spurstalk and you have a 3 hour show.

Thanks for all the comments and efforts into your post.

Psyched to be down here in SA and I found a great place to take about the Spurs and the city.

One note : I agree with the commercial's but that's what pays the bills I guess.

Also, check out http://www.blogtalkradio.com so really great programs on there.

I know the Baseball Digest guy that comes onto the Morning Drive Show on Friday mornings does a show there called Talking Baseball Live. And your right a lot of passion on these amateur shows. That guy has the passion and energy man. I heard him in studio a few weeks ago and he was great, he talked basketball, football, college baseball, and oh ya he took like five calls specifically for him -- its was great and refreshing!!!

I say we get him and mike ( who did a great job yesterday) a show together call it Fighting Fans Forum --- The Triple "F" Show -- where fans like us have a voice.

I like this idea a lot. Fresh blood would be great. Maybe more B-ball/Football/Baseball talk and less golf. I like the morning show, but find myself turning the channel when they start riding the high horse of golf. There's nothing more boring than watching golf...errrr...what, how about talking about it.

I heard Mike and the baseballdigest talking the other morning on the Be Peter for a day thing, and I agree, they sounded great.

Ugh, you do realize that there are different "formats" for radio don't you. Rush and Howard Stern and Imus are not your typical Radio Talk Show Hosts and everyone knows that. Their format does not apply to every radio show. And maybe an email about Avery Johnson is simply not what they feel like talking about or what SA wants to talk about for that matter. They cannot read every email or take every call. No show does that.

Your argument is going nowhere and this is why...the station your defending is a station that has half naked women on there web page and Mike Taylor and Jim Bob talk about Camel toes they spotted at the Spurs games so don't act like this is Catholic radio here, It's an AJ email not just another sexual innuendo that requires such censorship.

Are you saying they don't work for any Boss's?

Or boss's who encourage that type of format?

I don't call in because I suck as a caller and I also don't have time to wait on hold all afternoon if I did. You call this breaking new ground!? :lol

The only way to not suck is to not give up, Chris Rock didn't get an HBO special his first month doing stand up

So far it is all about the MJ Memorial Service and Magic Johnson eating chicken with MJ. It was a touching story but....they are going to the phone lines now!!!

Exactly!!! I think they are their own Boss's. According the blogtalkradio site, it's their own show and they get to program it how they want.

I did some searches and found out that they've done interviews with David Robinson, Duke Snider, the local kids over at the Missions. Not bad for local guys.

The best one I heard was ERnie Harwell, the old Tigers Broadcaster.

They also did a 24-Hour Radio-a-thon, which Peter Burns was on, and that was a pretty great list of guests too.

Tony Bruno was the SHIT!!!!!!!!!
