View Full Version : Now that Portland has "lost" Hedo, will they chase Odom?!?

Hope so!!!

The Lakers would take a BIG step backwards to lose Odom AND Ariza, Artest or no.

If not Portland, will anyone else chase Odom?!? :toast:

Don't think so. They're after David Lee. Odom doesn't factor for them.

What would David Lee do for them? Play behind Aldridge? What a waste of talent.

I have no idea, but that's the news. I'd steal Odom if I were them.

Well, since Portland likes to "be involved," but never actually do anything, they should definitely "involve" themselves in driving up the price for Odom!!!

Now, put on your bidding hat Pritchard!

should just throw 9m at him and see if the lakers bite

What if David Lee goes to the Thunder? Does Portland chase Odom then?

I would like Odom in Portland. He could play 3 and 4 for them. Roy, Odom, Oden, Aldridge would be a good core.

It's settled! Portland sings Odom because "they desire him more," Kobe demands a trade and gets it, Artest quits and signs with the Clippers, and Phil retires because he refuse to do any actual "coaching."

wishful thinking expecting odom to leave L.A...

You're probably right: but it's not wishful thinking for another team, ie Portland with cap space who loves to be "active," to drive up Odom's price to 10m per. Which means say hello to that $100m+ payroll LA, and I hope you like it.

Thats nothing to do with driving the price up...Odom already is asking for 10 mill anyway....likely hood is he will settle for 8 or 9 million when it's all said and done.

I'll say this though: while very unlikely, if Odom leaves, the Lakers are DONE. There is simply NO REPLACEMENT for the mismatch Odom brings just by stepping on the Court.

Again, it's unlikely, but possible!

We aren't winning the title without him, that I agree with

However we will still be a top 3 team in the west, so we won't be done just not quite enough to win it all.

Rumor circulating is LA wants to get him on the cheap for a one year $7 million. If that were true and Portland served up a long term deal in the $9 - 10 range and LA didn't buckle you'd have to look real quick to catch Odoms Escalade speeding up the freeway.

Worst case scenario Portland could put a little pain into Buss.

He already said he would take less to stay in LA so I don't see him leaving unless LA just keeps low balling him. Which is unlikely

As much as I hate LA, I dont want Odom in Portland either. That makes them a top 3 west team then

No it wouldn't. If they get Andre Miller + Odom, then that would make them a top 3 team in the west. But that has 0 chance of happening. I don't get why Portland isn't going after a PG.

Pritchard should lay low with offers until money has dried up telling Odom they do have interest. Then, while LA is dicking him with low ball offers, have Odom come to Portland and put a $9 - 10 million per for 3 year offer on the table and tell Odom sign it now and it's yours, leave the room and all offers are off the table. Give Odom no chance to try to leverage LA with Portland's offer.

DO IT PRITCH.

LA is supposed to be after Nate Robinson, unless they are thinking sign and trade I don't know if they can retain Odom going that direction. Can they? Odom/Ariza>Nate/Artest

Yeah it s very possible...Lakers wouldn't be interested in Nate if they couldn't afford to get both.

imagine a starting lineup of Odom/Aldridge/Odom/Roy/Bayless.

What team is fucking with that starting five? It allows Bayless to start b/c Roy and Odom can handle the ball. And it would clearly be the biggest most imposing frontline in the NBA. It would be fun to watch the Blazers demolish the Lakers.

If we get Sheed our improvement I believe would be more impressive
Bonner/Duncan/Finley/Mason/Parker to
Sheed/Duncan/Jefferson/Mason(possibly Ginobli depending on game plan)/Parker

Odom doesn't fit on Portland..the only reason they would do this is for an upgrade of talent off the bench, and just to fuck with the Lakers, which is something Portland would do, so that wouldn't surprise me..

Odom cannot play SF though, the spacing would be horrible..that's why you never see Phil Jackson playing him there, it would kill their spacing..

How much pay of a pay cut is he willing to take? Human nature tells me that if some other team wows him with a bigger contract than LA --the dude's bolting.

LA is pretty much a lock for Odom..Portland is the only team with any possible chance, but it's highly doubtful..Odom isn't going to a bad team, and he isn't gonna sign with another team for the MLE..

daslicer
07-05-2009, 10:32 PM
I would say he's a lock to go back to LA if he can't get any team to offer him more then the MLE but if Portland offers him the same type of money they offered Hedo he is good as gone. Odom strikes me as a greedy guy just like Ariza he played out of his ass during the playoffs for a contract. The situation right now is the Lakers aren't willing to budge off of 7-8 mil a year while he wants 10 mil a year. The reason Odom hasn't signed with them right away it would seem that he's weighing his options right now to see if a team possibly would throw him the money he wants. We will know in a few days what will happen it all depends on Portland.

Free Agent Buzz (UPDATE)

Score: 245
With two days to go until the official signing period begins, here's the latest free-agent buzz gathered from conversations with executives, agents, and others in the know:

* Despite reports that the Trail Blazers (http://www.cbssports.com/nba/teams/page/POR) were preparing to make a major bid for Knicks (http://www.cbssports.com/nba/teams/page/NY) restricted free agent David Lee (http://www.cbssports.com/nba/players/playerpage/555962), a coaching source familiar with the situation said Portland is more interested in the Lakers (http://www.cbssports.com/nba/teams/page/LAL)' Lamar Odom (http://www.cbssports.com/nba/players/playerpage/139087). And the source described the Odom situation with Portland as "lukewarm." The Blazers and Lee's agent, Mark Bartelstein, discussed the situation early in the negotiating period, but Portland was preoccupied at that time with its pursuit of Hedo Turkoglu (http://www.cbssports.com/nba/players/playerpage/196361). Now that Turkoglu has spurned the Blazers and committed to the Raptors (http://www.cbssports.com/nba/teams/page/TOR), Portland is deliberating what to do with its $9 million in cap space. The Blazers have been exploring point-guard options for some time, but the coaching source said Sixers free agent Andre Miller (http://www.cbssports.com/nba/players/playerpage/139085) isn't the answer because of his sub-part shooting ability.

Sadly, I have to agree that that Lakers team isn't going away. As a Spurs fan, of course, I believe we could beat them (especially without Odom). But they'll be in the title hunt with or without him for the next few years (You know, unless, Kobe breaks Bynum's knee again, Artest takes time off to promote his rap CD, Odom gains 40 lbs on gummy bears and Phil retires.)

Odom will never leave LA. Los Angeles has permanent advantages - beaches and 'glitz' and David Stern's knobslobbery.
