:lmao Can you imagine GRob trying to keep up with the premier scorers in the league? The Spurs would be losing by scores of like 120-100, and that would be WITH Tim in the lineup. OMG! :lmao

I don't think benching him would be a wise move right now.

I would like for him to impove his 3 pt shooting, it would easily give my boy
2-3 more assists per game.

:lmao You might want to check stats before you post. Bruce is hitting at a .397 clip this year from downtown. That's excellent.

I didn't say he sucked, I would just like him to make somemore of those wide open looks. Btw, I don't consider 39% excellent, top 3 3pt shooters are 45 and abve. Hoiberg is shooting close to 50% - that's excellent@!

Yeah and Hoiberg is on lottery team WYFP.

Why would you bench a guy that is one of your character guys, and a guy that busts his ass night in night out.

I think I made my point. As far as benching bruce - ask original poster.

I didn't say he was top 3 or even top 10, and Hoiberg is on a historic pace. Only a very few players have ever shot 50%, so I don't think it's fair to use him as a yardstick. Bowen's percentage is not historic, but is excellent, at #24 overall in the league. It's not like it's a fluke, either. His lifetime % is .380.

Yea I agree. One of the worst Ideas ever. Bowen is a tone setter. He keeps the other teams perimeter star from getting it going early. That is a huge advantage for us to have. He would not be near as effective if we let the star of a team get it going and then say, bruce go stop him. wow!!!!!!

Bruce must be shooting over 40% since mid-Decemeber too, because he started the season COLD.

Oh, and his mid-range game has improved vastly.

No need to mention the lock-down D and arse-busting effort.

Yeah, bench that guy!!! :lol

If you mean bench Bowen when they are playing run n' gun teams like the Suns then, maybe yes you can afford to bench bowen since he is not going to add any instant offense. However, even then you need Bowen to stop the likes of Shawn Marion or Joe Johnson or Quentin Richardson, who's going to step up to give them a defensive whooping? Certainly not Barry, but maybe Manu.

This Spurs team is built on the foundation of defense and Bruce Bowen is the epitome of Greg Popovich's defensive mind.

Another thing about Bowen, if you haven't noticed, he always spots up in the corner, for a 3pt fg, which as these fellow spurs fans have already let you know, is a corner Bowen is mighty proven in. This might in turn force teams to run a zone defense instead of man, and zone defenses are slim pickins for the Spurs backcourt of Parker/Udrih and Manu/Barry.

Granted he is not going to give you clutch shots all of the time, nor is he going to give you offense all of the time, but Bowen has developed his shot into a very pretty one. Bowen is an all-star defender, not a complete "all-star" in the defensive/offensive sense.

The only foreseeable reasons I would see for benching Bowen is to bring Brent Barry in, or maybe play small ball. Which is something the Spurs only play when they need to fight fire with fire, small ball that is. Brent Barry has yet to come into the full mold the Spurs organization might have expected from him.

So no, there is no logical reason in benching Bruce Bowen. This guy is going to give it his all on defense, night-in and night-out. The Spurs NEED him to stop, or at least limit, the production the best player on the opposing team, well, if it isn't a PF or C.
