Lineup When Duncan Rests Back to Backs..

Hi!

Great about the new signings. (Best FO in the league).

So, if Pop decides to rest Tim during one of the games during back-to-backs this season either just to keep his minutes low or prevent/heal his tendenosis, what is our starting lineup?

Do we go with 2 bigs at the 4 and 5 like McDyees and Blair? That would be great but they're both a tad short especially as a pair. Or do we do some other combination? I guess it might be depend on the opposition?

Good question... I think that gets worked out in Summer league and training camp. I'm really interested to see how Mahinmi & Blair perform next week. That will be the beginning to answering this question. If a healthy Mahinmi is far behind Blair in terms of effectiveness and the Spurs, as rumored, have issues with his attitude, he could quickly become trade material.

McDyess might be resting on back to backs as well. Both Duncan and McDyess need to be kept fresh for the stretch.

I could see a situation akin to a baseball team's use of "innings eater" pitchers during the regular season. The playoffs only require 3 starters but playoff teams also employ workhorse starting pitchers to soak up a high number of innings and save their stars.

The Spurs could use their younger bigs like Blair, Haislip, and, perhaps, Gist to rest their older stars and, in the process, pick up valuable experience.

Thats the thing - I still think the Spurs may need another true big off the bench, a 7 ft center who can play against other big men with height when we have Duncan sitting out. I guess it depends on how Mahinmi does this summer, but he's only around 6-10 right?

Rasho comes to mind. Useful against conventional centers and knows the System. Should come cheap.

The Spurs can (finally) afford to experiment with cheap players rather than just wonder where their next basket is going to come from. :toast
