What the hell is he waiting for? :lol
Wanna fill us in on what he is planning on doing, Laker fans, or is it a done deal already?

He's not going to get what he wants thats for damn sure, he's pretty much out of suitors

who is going to offer him more than the MLE? aside from OKC?

He's deciding on whether he wants a multi-year deal for less money or a 1 year deal in hopes of getting a more lucrative one in 2010.

This is potentially the biggest news of the off-season.

If Odom is hanging on to the hope that some team will overpay him or at least up the ante and force the Lakers to overpay, it's probably not happening:

- Teams which are contenders (e.g. Cleveland, Boston or SA) where Odom can be a real difference-maker were already over the cap and could have only offered the MLE. That would be fruitless since LA is probably already offering more than that. So they went ahead with other big man options (MLE signings for SA and Boston, large contract for Varejao from Cleveland based on the fact that they own his bird rights)

- Teams which are not top contenders (e.g. Portland or Detroit or Toronto) probably don't see Odom as a difference-maker. He is the best bench PF in the league, but they aren't going to throw 10 million a year at a 3rd or 4th option.

- Teams which suck bad would need Odom to be a go-to guy and he just isn't good enough for that.

Only LA can fork over 8 million per to re-sign him. If he wants 12 million, nobody else is going to pay him that much. LA will sit back and wait for him to exhaust all other options because he wont get a better deal outside

What the hell is he waiting for? Nobody is going to pay him more, although I think his worth is much higher than some of these ridiculous contracts we've seen. That's probably his dilemma. He's seeing lesser players get more money, and it probably pisses him off.

Odom's going to re-sign with the Lakers...only thing in question is when and for how much.

He's trying to get the most he can...there's no rush. Both Odom and the Laker hold some leverage:

1) Odom knows the Lakers have no other PF options other than through trade or a $1 million vet minimum. Both highly unlikely to land a quality PF.

2) Lakers know that there are only 3 teams that can pay big money to Lamar...Lakers/Portland/OKC.

I think it's going to be a stalemate for awhile longer until somebody blinks.

Maybe Stern asked for a handown from Los Angeles that they delay the announced agreement as long as possible. Once Odum signs its over 'till October. This dunk thing with James and the crowning of Shawn Marion as the greatest thing since sliced bread debases us all.

David Lee would probably be next in line before Lamar or Andre Miller if he's still out there, Lamar's a bad fit for them. Only reason they should go after Lamar is to weaken the Lakers, he makes no sense to me for them other then that. They need a physical bulldog type of back up 4, which Lamar isn't. Plus they already have like 4 SF's so I just don't see the point of him going there to play the 3, which he kinda sucks at anyways, when you have a ton of dudes that are already there.

Lamar Odom is waiting for the Spurs R.C. Buford to call so he can get another ring this coming season. He'd like to be a part of Tim Duncan's 5th ring ceremony.

Seriously, the Lakers better quit screwing around and get Odom signed. No excuses come the WC Finals. We want both teams at full strength for a change. And we sure as hell don't want our Village Idiot - House, jumping off the roof of an LA skyscraper when the Spurs move on to face one of the weaker EC teams. Hopefully, Boston so we can once again finish LA's business for you, like we did against the Pistons.

And what do Laker fans have to be scared of exactly dumb shit? Odom is resigning. If you knew anything about the salary cap you would understand that. The scared ones are the people going "oh please please take Odom away from the lakers." "Noooo portland not Milsap take Odom:bang" Do you see laker fans saying that about Spurs players? Exactly. ...Then you all & Duncan would black ball Odom. Pop would make his life a living Hell by playing him willy & nilly. Then the whole damn bunch of ya's would come out to Los Angeles and Odum would have like a nervous breakdown, a flash back of sorts, where he couldn't hold onto the ball, couldn't make a layup, couldn't make a basket unless the shot touched every f'in square inch of the top of the rim, you know, like he was before the '09 Playoffs.

As I was pondering the mysteries of the universe, as I am wont to do from time to time, it occurred to me that if Odom re-ups for one year in hopes of then chasing the big contract in 2010 when so many teams will have money to burn it would put him on a collision course with Ron Artest.

If I'm repeating what anyone here has said at some point, please tell me, but it seems that the big story that everyone worries that Artest and Kobe would clash and that Artest would be taking shots away from Kobe and I just don't think that's so. They both bring the sort of intensity that you want to see out of your teammates. And this is still Kobe's team. The ball is going to be in his hands too often for him to not get his shots and feel like The Man whenever he wants to be.

Lamar Odom on the other hand is famous for intermittent effort. That's the exact sort of thing that could set off a high intensity, screw loose player like Ron. And if Ron becomes the ball stopper in the offense it's going to come at the detriment of the stats of a guy who will probably already being going into the season a little unhappy and hoping to earn his big payday.

Might be wishful thinking on my part, but FWIW, I think that's the more likely landmine than "Ron and Kobe hate each other."

Deal on the table now is between $8 million and 9 million/year. Up from the previously rumored $7 million.

I hear his agent is scrambling for a S&T now.

Lamar Odom is believed to be seeking at least a $10 million contract from the Lakers. The Lakers aren’t willing to part with that kind of dough because of salary cap and luxury tax issues. The deal the Lakers were reportedly offering was for around $7 million.

But the sides might not be as far apart as that. Ronnie Lester, assistant GM, told me Saturday he heard the Lakers are now offering “a little north of $8 million.” He also said he expects a deal early next week.

Stay tuned.

Well, I think Odom will wait out to see if Utah matches Portland's offer for Millsap.
If Utah matches, as is being rumored, most believe they would go after Odom. And maybe Odom gets a bigger contract. The guy is 30 and he has a ring. I'm sure money means a lot more to him and his family now than another ring. Just saying...

What do you all think?
