Sources: Boozer could go to Chicago

Another major multi-team trade might be looming in the NBA with the Portland Trail Blazers (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=por), Utah Jazz (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=uth) and Chicago Bulls (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=chi) having discussed a deal that would be headlined by Carlos Boozer (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=1703) and Kirk Hinrich (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=1981), according to NBA front-office sources.
Sources stressed to ESPN.com that no deal was imminent Thursday and that both Portland and Utah are still evaluating multiple trade scenarios. But two sources with knowledge of the three-team proposal confirmed that there have been substantive talks regarding a trade that would land Boozer in Chicago, Hinrich in Portland and Tyrus Thomas (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=3032) in Utah.
A deal featuring those main components would deliver the elite low-post scorer that the Bulls have been chasing for years in Boozer and furnish Portland with a lead guard in Hinrich that the Blazers are known to rate highly as a potential backcourt mate for Brandon Roy (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=3027). It's possible that other players would be added to balance out the transaction from a salary-cap perspective if the three teams elect to take these talks further.
Yet even if this deal collapses, sources say it is clear that the Jazz are becoming increasingly open to the possibility of moving Boozer now to increase their financial flexibility to re-sign restricted free agent Paul Millsap (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=3015).
Despite fresh reports Thursday about the Blazers weighing whether to sign Millsap to an offer sheet, Hinrich is the player Portland prefers, according to one source close to the process, after the Blazers came so close last week to landing the versatile Hedo Turkoglu (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=862).
Boozer has only one season left at $12.7 million after declining the option in his contract to become an unrestricted free agent July 1. It's believed that the Jazz are determined to keep Millsap but are concerned about the luxury-tax consequences of signing him to a long-term deal.

Hinrich on Portland is a scary thought.

Nah. He isn't what he used to be and he is way overpaid. The Milsap thing would concern me more than this.

Great trade for the Blazers and Bulls. But what do the Jazz get out of it? Stromile Swift is just a crappier version of Millsap.

True, he's not a fantastic playmaker, but Hinrich is one of the best defensive guards in the NBA and is a career 38% 3-point shooter.

Roy and Aldridge can make plays.

And, of course, Greg Oden.

Boozer is going to stunt Thomas' growth. I don't do this if I am Chicago.

And Thomas would go to Utah? I read nothing but the title. I just started reading and found out Thomas would go to Utah. I like Thomas a lot. I think he finally came into his own late last season. It would be dumb of Chicago to trade Thomas for a 1 year rental.

It's possible that the Blazers don't give up anyone in this trade and just absorb Hinrich's contract. They have the cap space afterall. However, that would be dumb if they still want to go after a guy like Odom with that cap space.
