I'm joking but I don't live in San Antonio, and I've NEVER been to San Antonio, so I have no idea what HEB stands for.

I've seen the commercials online, but what the acronym means continues to elude me.

Perhaps it is an unanswerable mystery.

That J is deadly. Close or far, it doesn't matter. It's easy to him. Back in the day, there was this player that played for the Seattle Supersonics. Instant Offense. His name was Downtown Fred Brown. With the way that McClinton shoot's these, downtown might actually be a little close.

I kept hearing him compared to Eddie House, but Eddie always struck me as a Ron Mercer-type who learned to play within a system and extend his range to the NBA 3-point line.

Yeah, House has always been a gunner. One of the most impressive scoring outbursts I ever saw on any level was House going for 61 in college.

McClinton plays like a House clone. They have almost the same shot.

I personally don't give a damn about his defense. I just want him to come out firing and not turn the ball over. If he can shoot like he did in college, that would be a very nice weapon.

Any defense is just gravy. But he was drafted to score. I do not care how good he defends, if he is not hitting shots, he will not make it in the NBA. If he hits his shots and scores in spurts like he can and does not defend at all, he will have a good shot.

Those are the two things that come to my mind when thinking of House.

I remember seeing him in Miami coming off the bench and just going off.
There's getting into the zone and then there's something that very few others do. I'm not sure what the hell it's called or how the hell they get there, but House has visited it more than a time or two.

The 61 timvp mentioned was one of the most absurd things I've ever seen. Hell, 40 in the college game is almost unheard of.:wow

Pretty damn similar. Same exact height is pretty funny. House is slightly longer and slightly more athletic.

It goes to show how athletic NBA players are that House is considered unathletic and he damn near has a 40" vertical :lol

It's not hard to see why the comparisons are drawn, and he's coming to the right kind of team for him to have a chance to succeed.

He's got a coach who wants his point to shoot the ball and plenty distractions for a defense to give him the kind of looks to punish the opponent.

If he starts saving the day with 3-point bombs in the clutch, I'm suggesting the nickname Jack "Bower" McClinton.:hat

well, he shouldn't have any problem with the range for his 3's.

but his way of shooting seems not really perfect for a little guy with no size.

sometimes in this video, he seems to shoot it in front of him more than above him. less far from his defendor and less high than if he shot it more above his head.

His quick release should help though.

this kid's range is fucking disgusting.

Wow. Wow. JUST WOW.

THIS GUY IS R-I-D-I-C-U-L-O-U-S.

His range is mid way half court, off the dribble, off a screen, going left, going right, step back left, step back right, taller player with hand almost on the ball, taller player with hand covering his eyes, shorter faster player chasing him around screens, going to the basket because everyone is so afraid of the jumper, defenders overreacting to every fake because of the threat of the jumper FROM ANYWHERE, sets his feet and releases AS FAST AS I'VE SEEN ANYONE DO IT, is fearless and doesn't care a lick about bad shots, just man. This guy is AMAZING.

Can you imagine him shooting spot up threes for the well spaced Spurs, as fast as he shoots them?!? With Duncan in the block? Or running him off screens a la Rip Hamilton?

Sure, they'll post him at the other end, the Spurs would help out which would get the other teams some shots, but if he brought what he did in college...heck, if he brought HALF OF WHAT HE DID IN COLLEGE, it be EASILY WORTH IT.

Also, he set his teammates up PLENTY from the point often times because everyone was so terrified of his jumper, it was easy for him to penetrate and get others involved.

If he shows this to Pop in the Summer League, POP HAD BETTER FIND A WAY TO GET HIM IN THE GAME FROM GAME 1 OF THE SEASON.

This guy could very well be the BEST SHOOTER IN SPURS HISTORY: AND THAT INCLUDES STEVE KERR!!!

Can you imagine how many titles the Spurs would have if it were this guy shooting, instead of BRENT BARRY AND BONNER?!?!?!?!?!

I'm not saying he'll be the MVP or anything, but with Duncan and the spacing of the Spurs, this guy could be a KILLER.

Can you imagine Lakers trying to guard him with some 6'7 230 lb person chasing him off screens?!?!?

He would eat them alive.

Unless he forgets how to be confident and shoot the ball, only wants to collect money from the Spurs and go home without playing a single game, Pop had better find a way to GET THIS GUY SOME MINUTES.

Wow.

Just saw the highlight vid, and even those it's a highlight vid, I can't remember the last time I saw 9 minutes of ANYONE continuously dropping 3s down each defender's throat. What I like most is that he and Blair have the same mentality when it comes to their jobs...Blair gets rebounds no matter who else is jumping and McClinton shoots no matter who is defending. The only downside is he might be too aggressive and not milk the shot clock enough, so hopefully he can pull off the same percentages with our system.

Regardless, if he plays good defense, Pop might just let him light up the opposing team's bench. BANG BANG! :ihit

If he gets a training camp invite, he'd better make the 15-man roster. With that kind of shooting ability, if we relinquish our rights to him, he'll be scooped up within the month. I say sign the man to a two year minimum contract, throw him in Austin if there's no spot for him in SA, and let's see what he can do with the NBA 3-point line.

As a side note, obviously his shooting range is on display in those highlights, but the thing that impressed me most is his great awareness of where he is on the court. If you watch, any time he's on the move, he shoots a lot either 2 feet in front of the 3-point line, or a few inches behind it. No toes on the line, no heels on the line. That kind of awareness is huge, and can significantly help your efficiency and FG%.

I just thought it was odd he could make these shots with one foot in front. Thats alot of shots made shooting that way...unreal.
Dont you all kind of see him like a Bruce, Ferry style player, jsut waiting for set up shots???Whats good is he cold actually drive a little for a mid range shot and not be married to 3 pointers.

Only negative I could see is I think he will get blocked alot in the NBA. His style of driving and how he shoots layups will hurt him a little.

Damn, I believe he's got the NBA 3 shot range down, going for the all-alien world league range.

Agree with you. He was not drafted for his defense but his deadly shooting ability. If he shows he is a deadly 3 point threat Pop will find a way to play him.

Agreed. Between Blair and McClinton, the Spurs ROBBED the rest of the league!

Temper the expectations. I like both but if you look at the other top players drafted highlight reel highlights they look good too.

It stands for Howard E Butt.

The original owners , Charles C Butt and Florence Butt named the store after there son Howard E Butt back in 1905 when the first store was in Kerville.

The first time I came to Austin my sister told me the guy's name was Harry E. Butt. LMAO. Not that much of a stretch actually.

I'm very excited to see what this cat can do. We may have another George Hill-esque acquisition on our hands. I would consider that a huge success.
