Has Bowen been waived yet? Whats the situation with Thomas?

Neither Bowen or Thomas have been waived yet. Bruce will, but I'm not sure Thomas will. KT's deal is fully guaranteed so the Bucks don't save anything by cutting him loose.

A lot of people keep talking about maybe getting Thomas back. I'm not sure how realistic that is considering the Bucks have little motivation to dump him. Hes a savvy player that could help mentor their guys for a year and they gain nothing by simply waiving him except to free up a roster spot.
Still, if hes released then I'd be fine with bringing him back aboard.

I like KT too, but now with McDyess aboard I don't think there's a need. Between Dyess, Blair, Haislip, Mahinmi and Bonner the Spurs are stocked in the 6'8"-6'10" big man department. I'd only be interested in KT if one of those other guys left the roster for whatever reason.

We have a lot of unprovens though. Haislip has already busted once in the NBA and Mahinmi can't walk down the street without spraining an ankle. Blair has shaky knees and Duncan and McDyess are old...the potential for them missing a handful of games is quite high for simple minor injuries. So I'm not opposed to a little added depth in the frontcourt.

Funny that Bonner's the only name not on that list.
I think the things with Mahinmi and Blair are overrated. That said, the unproven factor in the front line is definitely of concern.

Exactly. Drew Gooden.
Gooden would be interesting if he would be up for something like a two year contract at the LLE with a player option for the second year, with an eye towards opting out and then getting paid as the Spurs would have his Early Bird Rights. Of course, this would be assuming that he couldn't find a better deal elsewhere, which even in this market, one would think he could.

Don't understand why teams aren't giving him more looks, even if he has reputation of being a bonehead and a defensive slob, which I didn't appreciate during his time in SA. I think he plays hard and wants to win. He's one of the 5 best low post big men in the league. Some team will get a really good deal on a good FT shooting big who can get a double double with reliable PT. I just don't want him in the West. Hope he goes to a contender in the East. I would think Orlando if they don't resign Gortat. Would love to see him stay with the silver and black at LLE to give more veteran big man depth (Dice and Tim are the only vets), but I think the owners have coughed up enough $ this offseason in their eyes. Drew is definitely worth more $ than LLE IMO. The Drew haters are wrong.

I'm sure a lot of GM's are thinking in this economic climate that if they're patient then they'll be able to find a player who will panic and sign a bargain contract. There was an initial flurry of activity early in the signing period amongst the contenders, but I think we're fixing to see the market really slow down as GM's will hunker down and play chicken with the free agents. Gooden appears to be one of those guys who's going to get stuck having to hunt for a contract in that environment.

Well, Bonner has proven that hes an NBA player. He might not be an especially "good" NBA player, but he definitely can play at this level. And hes not an injury risk. As an end of the bench kind of guy, Bonner is pretty damn good. It's just when you look at him as a centerpiece in a bigman rotation that hes overmatched.

As for Gooden, I think he'll realize that there isn't much money out there right now, and he could very well sign for the LLE, maybe with the Spurs, but the Spurs have too many big men right now.
Oh I thought you meant from us...Relieved. Out of the three of Kurt, BB, and Fab - I think Fab is the least likely to come back (if they all get cut, but Kurt will most likely stick with the Bucks for a year)...

This sums up the Bonner situations pretty well. Ideally, you don't want him as your starting center but he is not a bad situational big. It isn't the end of the world if Bonner is on the roster at the start of the season.

I disagree that we too many bigs. We have only 3 bigs with NBA experience, that's counting Bonner and not counting glassman Mahinmi.

Wizards offer deal to ex-Spur Oberto (http://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/spurs/Wizards_offer_deal_to_ex-Spur_Oberto.html)
Express-News
The Washington Wizards have made a contract offer to former Spurs center Fabricio Oberto, traded to the Milwaukee Bucks as part of the package that brought Richard Jefferson to the Spurs in a three-team, pre-draft trade with the Detroit Pistons last month.
Terms of Washington’s offer to Oberto aren’t known. He was released by the Pistons after the deal was completed. Detroit remains obligated to pay $1.9million of Oberto’s partially guaranteed $3.8 million contract.
Oberto was the starting center during the Spurs’ playoff run to the 2007 NBA title. In 274 games with the Spurs, the only NBA team he’s appeared for, Oberto averaged 3.6 points and 3.9 rebounds in 15.3 minutes per game.

I agree that we have a lot of unprovens, but we need to use roster spots for positions that are kinda thin right now. And how can you say that Blair has shaky knees? What has he done to show you shaky knees? He fell to the Spurs because of these supposed "shaky knees", where the hell are they?

Oberto's Agent: "Nothing's Imminent" (http://voices.washingtonpost.com/wizardsinsider/2009/07/oberto_update.html?wprss=wizardsinsider)
Michael Lee
Wizards Insider
I just got off the phone with Fabricio Oberto's agent, Herb Rudoy, who informed me that while he has had "serious conversations" with the Wizards, they have not reached the point where the team has made his client "a formal offer."
Rudoy would not discuss the parameters of the proposed deal, but he made it clear that Oberto has been in contact with at least six teams and is no hurry to make a decision about where he will play next season.
"Nothing's imminent," Rudoy said. "Fabricio is going to take his time making this decision. It's not going to happen in the next few days. He's in no rush. We've been bombarded with opportunities. He wants to think about this."
I asked Rudoy about the possibility of Oberto returning to Europe, where played for seven seasons before joining the Spurs in 2005. Rudoy said, "His plan is to stay in the NBA."
A team source also told me that the team had not made an offer to Oberto. But there is no denying that they have interest in the Argentine. The Wizards are hoping that the presence of Spurs former assistant Mike Wells on Flip Saunders's staff can entice Oberto to come to Washington.
Oberto is coming off a season in which he averaged 2.6 points and 2.6 rebounds. He had been bothered by arrhythmia (atrial fibrillation) the past few seasons and recently underwent a heart procedure that was aimed at correcting his irregular heartbeat. He would occasionally miss games after receiving eletro-shock procedure to get his heart back in time. After the procedure, he told the San Antonio Express-News that there shouldn't be any problems with his comeback. A few weeks later, he wound up being traded to Detroit.
The Wizards are looking for a bargain basement big man who is willing to play spot minutes and possibly go a game or two without playing. According to league sources, they have also reached out to the representatives for Chris Wilcox, Jason Collins, Jamaal Magloire, Sean Marks, Mikki Moore and Brian Skinner. Saunders said yesterday that there is a "realistic" possibility that the team could sign summer league participant Josh Heytvelt. One of their targets, Channing Frye, already signed with Phoenix, and another, Rasho Nesterovic, has been cozying up with the Toronto Raptors. Stay tuned.
I bet he wants to play with any of his fellow countrymen.
He´ll sign with the Spurs, Rockets or Kings if he is offered the chance.
If none of those teams make an offer, then he´ll sign with another team.
